Freitas Ice Forum (1,800) The Matchup UConn concludes its home schedule as it nears the end of the regular season by hosting Northeastern for two contests in Storrs this weekend. Connecticut is jostling for position in the Hockey East standings, as the four teams currently between fifth and eighth in the league standings are a mere three points apart. The Series: Northeastern The Huskies in National Flag Blue and White have faced their counterparts in Red and Black 45 times in the past, with NU holding a slim advantage in the all-time series. Northeastern took all four meetings last season, sweeping UConn in three regular season contests before a victory in the WHEA quarterfinals. Connecticut s last victory over NU came in the season, a 4-2 victory on Feb. 19, Earlier this year, UConn snapped an 11-game winning streak in the series for NU with a 3-3 tie on Jan. 3 in Boston. In that contest, Elaine Chuli made 42 saves and Rebecca Fleming, Emily Snodgrass and Margaret Zimmer each scored to pace the Huskies. The Other Huskies Northeastern travels to Storrs with a overall record on the year and an even mark in Hockey East play. NU fell earlier this week in the consolation game of the 2015 Women s Beanpot, falling 3-1 to No. 7 Boston University in a non-league tilt. In its last WHEA contest, Northeastern picked up a 2-1 overtime victory over Providence on Feb. 6. Captain and United States Olympian Kendall Coyne powers the NU offense, leading the team with 20 goals and 36 points on the year. Coyne is third in Hockey East in both goals and points. Behind her, freshman Denis Krizova is second on the squad with a scoring line, coming in at fifth among all league rookies in scoring. Heather Mottau leads the club with 18 assists and has totaled 20 points, while Hayley Scamurra is second on the squad with 10 goals and has 15 points on the year. In goal, Chloe Desjardins sees the bulk of action and holds an record with a 2.66 GAA and a.917 save percentage. Desjardins is third in the WHEA in save percentage and fourth in goals against average. Last Time Out UConn was on the road for two contests last weekend, traveling to No. 1 Boston College on Friday before visiting New Hampshire on Sunday. After a 6-0 setback to the top-ranked and previously unbeaten Eagles, UConn bounced back from a two-goal deficit to force a 2-2 tie at UNH. Fleming and Zimmer notched goals for the Huskies and Chuli made 45 saves in the draw. UConn killed off all six UNH penalties in the contest and blocked 11 shots. Senior Salute Prior to Sunday s game UConn will honor its six-member senior class of Kayla Campero, Rachel Farrel, Rebecca Fleming, Sarah MacDonnell, Emily Snodgrass and Emily Walsh. The seniors have played in a combined 598 contests in Storrs and have recorded 114 goals, 144 assists and 258 points heading into the weekend s action.
