Puck drop is set for 3 p.m. CALM BEFORE THE BEANPOT Saturday s game comes before a crucial Beanpot tilt against host Harvard on Feb. 3. This is the second straight season that BU will play UConn prior to the opening round of the Beanpot. The Terriers swept a home-and-home series on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 last year. BU has won its last four pre-beanpot contests - its last loss came against UConn in 2010, which was also the last time the Huskies defeated the Terriers. SEARCHING FOR A SEASON SWEEP The Terriers took the first two tilts against UConn this season, sweeping a home-andhome series on Nov BU bested the Huskies, 3-2, at Freitas Ice Forum on Nov. 15 before the Terriers topped UConn, 4-2, the next day at Walter Brown. HISTORY WITH THE HUSKIES The Terriers are all-time against the Huskies, including a record at UConn. BU has won 16 straight games against the Huskies dating back to a 2-1 overtime victory in the 2010 Hockey East championship game. In those 16 wins, the Terriers have held the Huskies to two goals or fewer in all but one game, a 7-5 come-from-behind victory on Feb. 23, 2013, at Walter Brown Arena. CATCHING UP WITH CONNECTICUT UConn enters the weekend having won just once in its last three tilts, a 4-1 victory over providence in the Huskies most recent game. Connecticut is currently four points behind fourth-place Northeastern with a game in hand. UConn is one of only for teams to take 100 or more penalties this season. The Huskies have been whistled for 100 infractions in Two seniors have been the important cogs in the UConn offense, as Sarah MacDonnell (6g, 14a) and Emily Snodgrass (14g, 4a) lead the team in assists and goals, respectively, with MacDonnell atop the leaderboard with 20 points. Both junior Elaine Chuli and freshman Annie Belanger have seen time between the pipes this season, with Chuli playing 16 games to Belanger s 12. Both netminders have a.920 save percentage, but Belanger has the better goals-against average at Belanger started both games against BU earlier this season. WILD WEEKEND VERSUS VERMONT After being blanked by UVM, 2-0, on Jan. 24, the Terrier offense came alive the next day in a 9-2 victory over the Catamounts at Walter Brown Arena. 3 @BUAthletics BU attempted 99 shots on Saturday, including 39 that were stopped by Madison Litchfield. COUNTDOWN TO 200 With a victory on Saturday, head coach Brian Durocher and the Terriers will reach the 200-win plateau. Durocher, who has been behind the BU bench for all 10 seasons of the program s existence, owns a record as the Terriers bench boss. BU earned its 100th win on Jan. 22, 2011, at Vermont. The program s first victory came on Oct. 14, 2005, a 4-1 triumph over Union. NEARING SOME MILESTONES Three Terriers are close to reaching significant career milestones. Junior Kayla Tutino is just one point shy of 100 for her career. She enters Saturday with 99 points thanks to 44 goals and 55 assists. Senior Marie-Philip Poulin is two games away from the century mark while juniors Sarah Lefort and Dakota Woodworth will play their 100th career game at UConn. WHERE WILL TUTINO RANK? When Kayla Tutino records her 100th career point, she will become the ninth player to do so as a Terrier. Junior Sarah Lefort and senior Marie-Philip Poulin are the other active Terriers with over 100 points. Tutino is also four assists shy of moving into a tie for fifth among the program s career leaders in that category. Isabel Menard tallied 59 assists in two seasons at BU. HANSON HAILED BY HOCKEY EAST Sophomore goaltender Victoria Hanson was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. She allowed just one goal in 100 minutes of action over two games. Hanson held then-no. 3 Quinnipiac to just one third-period goal in a 4-1 win on Jan. 21. The Stoughton, Massachusetts, native then kept Vermont off the board for two periods before ceding the cage with an 8-0 lead. Hanson has a.905 save percentage and a 2.14 goals-against average. GOALIE ASSISTS ARE THE BEST ASSISTS In addition to her stellar work in keeping Vermont without a goal, Victoria Hanson helped out the Terrier offense with her first collegiate assist. Marie-Philip Poulin collected a Hanson save and went coast-to-coast for a highlight-reel goal. BU is the only team in the country to boast two goaltenders with at least one point this season. Freshman Erin O Neil also assisted on a Poulin marker this season, accomplishing the feat on Dec. 8 against Providence. NINE TIMES? NINE TIMES. The Terriers scored nine goals in a game for the first time since a 9-1 win over New Hampshire in the league quarterfinals on Feb. 26, Prior to that win over UNH, the only other time BU scored nine or more goals was on Dec. 8, 2007, in an 11-1 win over Sacred Heart. ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIIIIIIIF The Terriers scored five goals in the first period of their 9-2 over Vermont. It was just the second time they accomplished that feat. The first time they had tallied five goals in a period was on Oct. 25, 2008, when they lit the lamp five times against Maine at Agganis Arena. NO GOALS AS RARE AS NINE GOALS BU was held scoreless for the first time since Nov. 16, 2013, when Wisconsin earned a 5-0 win in Vail, Colo. The last time BU was blanked at home was Jan. 29, 2010, when Connecticut earned a 2-0 victory at Walter Brown. LESLIE IS MORE Freshman Rebecca Leslie logged a career-high three points in the Terriers 9-2 win over Vermont. She matched a career best with two goals and also added an assist. On the season, Leslie has nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points, which is tied for fifth among league rookies. Bach ranks second among NCAA rookies with 13 goals and also has seven assists for 20 points. POULIN CONTINUES TORRID PACE Despite having her nine-game point streak snapped on Jan. 24, senior captain Marie-Philip Poulin has been terrific over the last 11 tilts. She potted a goal and added an assist for a two-point effort on Jan. 25, bringing her point total in that 11-game span to 19 (10g, 9a). Nine of her 10 total assists this season came in that stretch of games. 5 LEFORT LEADS THE BU OFFENSE Junior Sarah Lefort became the first Terrier to record 30 points this season with her assist on Jan. 25 against UVM. She now has 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 points. Lefort led the Terriers last year with 55 points, thanks in large part to her NCAAbest 32 goals. TERRIFIC TRIO Ever since forming on Jan. 7 at Boston College, the line of Sarah Lefort, Marie- Philip Poulin and Kayla Tutino has been outstanding. In the six games that they have been together, they have combined for 12 goals, 10 assists and 22 points. Poulin has six goals and four assists for 10 points in that time, while Tutino has four markers and four assists for eight points. Lefort has recorded two goals and added two assists while skating alongside that duo; all three players have recorded a point in the Terriers last two victories. On the 12 goals the trio has combined to score, one member of that line has provided the primary assist on five different occasions. SPREADING THE WEALTH After the 9-2 win against Vermont on Jan. 25, 10 different Terriers now have at least 10 points this season. In addition, only two players, including one goaltender, have been held without a point this season. WHERE DOES THE OFFENSE RANK? BU boasts the fourth most potent offense in the NCAA with an average of 3.58 goals per game. Last season, the Terriers had the eighth best offense in the country with an average of 3.04 goals per game. WOLOSCHUK SETS NEW BENCHMARK Junior Alexis Woloschuk recorded her second assist in three games on Jan. 25 for her fifth point of the season, a new career best. Last season, she collected one goal and three assists for four points. Woloschuk has been capable in the defensive zone as well, especially in the last three games, in which she is a plus boston university Women s ice BENNETT LIGHTS THE LAMP Junior Diana Bennett recorded her second career goal on Jan. 25 against Vermont, which proved to be the gamewinning strike. Her first collegiate goal came last season on Nov. 2, 2013, and was also against Vermont. MIA MAKES HER DEBUT Sophomore goaltender Mia Becker made her collegiate debut on Jan. 25 against Vermont. She entered in the third period and made nine saves, with her most impressive stop coming on a penalty shot taken by the Catamounts top goal scorer, Brittany Zuback. BRILLIANT AGAINST THE BOBCATS In perhaps their most important non-conference clash of the season, the Terriers knocked off No. 3/4 Quinnipiac, 4-1, on Jan. 21 at Walter Brown Arena. Senior Marie-Philip Poulin and junior Kayla Tutino each tallied three points, with both players lighting the lamp and adding two assists. Junior Sarah Lefort and freshman Victoria Bach also found the back of the net for BU. Sophomore Victoria Hanson was sharp between the pipes, making 21 saves. Freshman Rebecca Leslie and senior Shannon Doyle each had a helper, as did juniors Jordan Juron and Alexis Woloschuk. GOOD DEFENSE, BETTER OFFENSE Quinnipiac entered that tilt with the stingiest defense in the country, but the Terrier offense was too much for the Bobcats to handle. BU became just the second team this year to score four goals against Quinnipiac and only the second team to defeat the Bobcats this season. The Terriers have done well against the top 10 defenses in the NCAA this year; BU has scored at least three goals against the two of the top-three teams in goals allowed per game (Quinnipiac, Boston College) and tallied twice against Minnesota, which is ranked second. BU also put eight goals past Clarkson in a weekend series; the Golden Knights enter the weekend with the seventh best defense in the land.
