The two-game series begins Friday (5 p.m.) before concluding the following afternoon at 3 p.m. FIRST SEMESTER FINALS This weekend s pair of games will be the Terriers last before the semester break. BU closed its first semester at Minnesota Duluth last season. This is the first time the Terriers have hosted their final game of the first semester since the season, when they tied Connecticut, 1-1. The Terriers are all-time to close out the first half of the season. DELIGHTFUL IN DECEMBER Over the last three seasons, BU has played some of its best hockey in the final month of the calendar year. Junior Jenna McParland leads the team with 16 points and is tied with senior Jamie Kenyon with a squad-best seven goals. Kenyon is second on the squad with 15 points and freshman Lara Stalder leads UMD with 10 assists. Sophomore Kayla Black has started 15 of the Bulldogs 16 games this season. She is with a 2.10 goals-against average and a.930 save percentage. BULLDOGS AT BU This weekend is the first time that Minnesota Duluth will face the Terriers in Boston, but it is not the first time that the Bulldogs will have skated at BU. Sarah Lefort is the only current Terrier who registered a point that weekend. Kerrin Sperry made 28 saves in the first tie before posting a 38-save shutout the next day. It was the first-ever scoreless draw for BU in program history. PAIRWISE IMPLICATIONS BU and Minnesota Duluth are eighth and 12th, respectively, in the PairWise rankings entering the weekend. Two wins against a Team Under Consideration will help the Terriers in their quest for an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. This weekend s games will be two of the Terriers final three non-conference contests of the season, excluding the Beanpot in February, and will likely be the final two chances to face a TUC prior to the Beanpot. SPERRY NAMED GOALIE OF THE MONTH For the second time this season, senior Kerrin Sperry was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month, the league announced on Dec. 4. She had a 1.50 goals-against average HEAD TO HEAD and a.944 save percentage with a record in eight starts in November. Sperry went in the league last month and had two shutouts, including a 2-0 win against St. Cloud State. NO PROBLEM AT NORTHEASTERN Three third-period goals helped break a 2-2 tie and secure a 5-2 win for BU at Northeastern on Tuesday night. Sophomore Sarah Lefort had a hat trick and a career-high four points while senior captain Louise Warren (2g, 2a) also had a career-high four points. Senior goaltender Kerrin Sperry made a season-high 38 saves. Four of the six Terrier defensemen had an assist and eight total skaters got on the scoresheet. WARREN IS HERO AT MATTHEWS AGAIN Louise Warren scored the gamewinning goal in the Terriers 3-2 overtime triumph at Northeastern on Oct. 29 and she was the hero on Tuesday night as well. The senior captain reprised her role as hero with a shorthanded goal to break a 2-2 tie on Tuesday and help the Terriers secure a crucial two points. She now has three game-winning goals this season, with her third coming at New Hampshire on Nov. 1. 3 HAT TRICKS AGAINST THE HUSKIES Sophomore Sarah Lefort collected a hat trick on Dec. 3 for the second time in her collegiate career and once again it was against Northeastern. Lefort s first hat trick came in a 5-4 home victory against the Huskies on Jan. 16. Louise Warren was a common link in both games, as she scored a goal in the Jan. 16 win as well as Tuesday s victory. Eight different Terriers had an assist on at least one of Lefort s six goals in the two three-goal games. LINE SHUFFLE LEADS TO CAREER HIGHS The Terrier line chart on Tuesday night was unlike any seen so far this season, but one switch benefitted senior Louise Warren and sophomore Sarah Lefort. Playing together for an entire game for the first time this season, Lefort logged a career-high four points (3g, 1a) while Warren also had a career-high four points (2g, 2a). Warren and Lefort combined for 18 of the Terriers 34 shots on goal, with seven of Warren s attempts coming in the first period. PERFECT CALENDAR YEAR IN WHEA Thanks to their win on Tuesday, the Terriers went the entire calendar year without a loss in Hockey East play. BU was in league games during 2013, not including its three wins in the Hockey East tournament. If the Terriers win both games this weekend, they will have gone the entire calendar year without a home defeat against any competition. RECORD-SETTING WIN STREAK BU has won 23 straight Hockey East games, which is a league record on the women s side as well as the men s side. The previous women s record was 15, set by New Hampshire over two seasons. The men s record was 16 games, set by Maine during the season. BU has not lost a league game since New Hampshire defeated the Terriers, 4-2, on Nov. 9, FROM DEFENSE TO OFFENSE Four of the six Terrier defensemen that dressed on Tuesday night at Northeastern recorded an assist. The last time that occurred was on Nov. 6 against Connecticut, when four blue liners got on the scoresheet in a 6-2 victory. A FAMILIAR START TO THE SEASON With its win on Nov. 24, BU has matched its start from last year. The Terriers eventually finished and advanced to the NCAA title game. The 11 wins through 15 games in each of the last two seasons is a program record; BU had previously collected 10 wins through the first 15 contests of the campaign. TUTINO JOINS GWG CLUB Junior Kayla Tutino became the eighth Terrier this season to collect a gamewinning goal with her marker at UNH on Nov. 24. Last season, just seven skaters scored game winners. Senior captain Louise Warren (3) and sophomore Sarah Lefort (3) are the only two skaters with at least two gamewinning goals while sophomore Rebecca Russo is the only Terrier with a gamewinning, power-play and shorthanded strike this year. 5 The Terriers goal differential in league play is plus-23, which leads the other seven squads. No other Hockey East school has allowed fewer than 16 goals in conference competition. SPERRY STILL AMONG NATION S BEST Senior goaltender Kerrin Sperry is still in the top 10 of both major statistical categories among NCAA netminders. Sperry is fifth in save percentage (.945) and ninth in goals-against average (1.63). The North Reading, Mass., native is the only league goaltender with a GAA under 2.00 and also has the fifth best winning percentage in the nation at.821 (11-2-1). NO MORE SHUTOUT STREAK The Terriers 3-1 loss at Harvard on Nov. 22 marked the first time this season that the Terriers scored a goal in a losing effort. Both of their previous two losses came in shutouts. The Terriers have lost just three regular-season games when scoring at least one goal since Nov. 9, BU GETS THE BALANCE RIGHT Entering this weekend, the Terriers are one of just two teams to have every skater who has dressed this season tally at least one point. Clarkson is the only other school that has achieved that feat. Fifteen BU skaters have recorded at least two points and 13 Terriers have lit the lamp in TOUGH IN THE THIRD PERIOD BU has allowed just eight third-period goals this season, which leads all of Hockey East. Senior goaltender Kerrin Sperry has allowed just four third-period goals in her last 12 starts. BU is when leading after the second period and have scored 20 goals in the third frame. The Terriers are when entering the final period with the lead over the last two seasons. DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS This season marked the first time that BU allowed three goals or fewer in each boston university Women s ice hockey of its first 12 games. The streak ended on Nov. 16 when BU gave up five goals to No. 2 Wisconsin, but the Terriers rebounded by resuming the streak over the last three tilts. The Terriers got through the first six games of the season without allowing more than three goals in what had been the longest such stretch in program history until this season. Overall, BU has the eighth-best defense in the nation, giving up an average of just 1.81 goals per game. ON THE OFFENSIVE BU has the sixth-most potent offense in the nation with an average of 3.06 goals per game. The Terriers are second among Hockey East schools, trailing only Boston College (3.71). BU has outscored its opponents by a margin of 1.13 goals per game and is the only Hockey East school to rank in the top 10 nationally in both scoring offense and scoring defense. BLOCK PARTY Sophomore Lillian Ribeirinha-Braga leads Hockey East with 40 blocked shots this season. BU has blocked 214 shots as a team so far this season; it recorded 512 blocked shots in VICTORY IN VAIL Vail, Colo., is the furthest west that the Terriers have both played and won in the program s nine-year history. Previously, BU had won as far west as Grand Forks, N.D., on Oct. 3, TO BLANK AND BE BLANKED Nov marked only the third time in program history that BU was shut out after posting a shutout the previous game. The first time it occurred was Oct , 2006, when the Terriers topped Vermont, 4-0, before being blanked by New Hampshire, 4-0. It also happened in 2009, when the Terriers once again beat Vermont, 4-0, on Jan. 31 before dropping an 8-0 decision to Harvard on Feb. 3.
