4 PITTSBURGH PENGUINS ROOKIE TOURNAMENT TEAM NOTES BEHIND THE BENCH Wilkes-Barre/Scranton head coach John Hynes, along with his assistant, Alain Nasreddine, will be behind the bench for the Penguins this weekend. Hynes, 38, is in his fourth season as head coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. Over the past three seasons, Hynes has led WBS to a overall record, three Calder Cup playoff berths, three 40-win seasons and the 2011 AHL regular-season championship while being named the 2011 AHL Coach of the Year. Hynes, recorded his 100th win on April 6, 2013 versus Hershey, doing so in just 152 games, becoming the fastest in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton history to accomplish this feat and second-fastest ever in the AHL. Hynes led the Penguins to one of the most dramatic comebacks in AHL history during the 2013 playoffs. Trailing 3-0 in the series to the Providence Bruins, WBS ran off four-straight victories to win the series in seven games and advance to the East Final. The Penguins became just the third team in AHL history to overcome a 3-0 deficit and win a series. During the regular season, Hynes squad allowed the fewest goals (178) in the AHL - the second time the team has done so in his three years behind the bench. The Warwick, Rhode Island native first debuted as WBS head coach in , where he guided WBS to an impressive record, earning the franchise its first-ever Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy as the AHL regular-season champions. Hynes joined the Penguins organization prior to the season, serving as an assistant coach his first year in WBS under current Penguins assistant coach Todd Reirden. Prior to joining WBS, Hynes spent six seasons as a head coach with USA Hockey s National Team Development Program, posting an overall record of Internationally, he led the U.S. Under- 18 National Team to three medals at the World Under-18 championships gold in 2006, silver in 2004 and bronze in Nasreddine, 38, is in his fourth season as an assistant coach with WBS, following a 15-year playing career that included parts of five seasons with the Penguins. In season, he coached a defensive squad that allowed the fewest goals (183) in the AHL, helping lead the WBS Penguins to the franchise s first ever, Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy as AHL regular-season champions. In , Nasreddine s defensive corps again allowed the fewest goals (178) in the AHL, for the second time in three years. Nasreddine appeared in 249 career contests for WBS, totaling 55 points (13G-42A). A team captain during his time in WBS, Nasreddine helped the Penguins reach the Calder Cup Final in 2003 and 07. Nasreddine was originally drafted by the Florida Panthers in the sixth round (135 th overall) of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft and also played for Chicago, Montreal and the New York Islanders in addition to Pittsburgh.

5 PITTSBURGH PENGUINS ROOKIE TOURNAMENT TEAM NOTES LONDON TIES Three members of Pittsburgh s 26-man rookie tournament roster defensemen Scott Harrington, Olli Maatta, and Reid McNeill share ties to London, Ontario. Harrington and Maatta were teammates on the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League in and , helping the Knights to win back-to-back OHL playoff titles. McNeill, who also played for the Knights previously, is a native of London, Ontario. Harrington, 20, was chosen by the Penguins in the second round (54th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound stay-at-home blueliner served as London s team captain in 12-13, posting a plus-21 rating in 50 regular-season games. Harrington made his professional debut with the Wilkes- Barre/Scranton Penguins during the 2013 AHL playoffs, scoring a goal on his first professional shot in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals against Syracuse. Maatta, 19, who was drafted by Pittsburgh in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft, led all London Knights defensemen in goals (8), assists (30) and points (38) during the regular season. The Finnish product helped the Knights win the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) postseason title and earn a berth into the Memorial Cup tournament, where he posted two assists in five games. Maatta is eligible to continue to play for the Knights in the season. McNeill, 21, was defensive partners with fellow Penguin Scott Harrington as a member of the London Knights from After a solid season with London, McNeill was traded to the Barrie Colts as a part of a package deal that granted London the right to select Olli Maatta in the 2011 CHL Import Draft. The 6-foot-4, 204-pound blueliner continued to progress with the Colts in 11-12, tallying 12 points (3G-9A), plus-nine rating, and 90 penalty minutes prior to joining the Wheeling Nailers in EXPERIENCE IS KEY Philip Samuelsson, 22, who was drafted by the Penguins in the second round (61 st overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft is among the most experienced defensemen on the Penguins 2013 Rookie Tournament roster. Philip, the son of two-time Stanley Cup winning Ulf Sammuelsson, appeared in his first full season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League in The six-foot-two, 194-pound Samuelsson is most known for his shutdown role on the WBS penalty kill that ranked first in AHL in with a kill rate of 87.2 percent. Samuelsson was a member of the WBS defense that allowed the fewest goals (178) in He posted two goals, eight assists, 10 points, and 70 penalty minutes over 65 games with the WBS Penguins. Samuelsson will be joined by a number of players who have appeared in the AHL including forwards Bobby Farnham, Tom Kuhnhackl, Jayson Megna, Adam Payerl, Dominik Uher and defensemen Brian Domoulin and Reid McNeill.

6 PITTSBURGH PENGUINS ROOKIE TOURNAMENT TEAM NOTES Five of those players Farnham, Kuhnhackl, Payerl, Uher, and McNeill have also suited up for Wheeling, the Penguins ECHL affiliate. SOME OLD, SOME NEW Four members of the Penguins 26-man roster participated in the 2011 rookie tournament in London, including defensemen Scott Harrington and Philip Sammuelsson; and forwards Tom Kuhnhackl and Dominik Uher. Reid McNeill, a London native who appeared in the 2010 rookie tournament, is back to compete in For other players, it will be their first time competing in the rookie tournament, including the Penguins top-draft pick, goaltender, Tristan Jarry, as well as 2012 top picks, defensemen Derrick Pouliot and Olli Maatta. DEFENSE FIRST The Penguins have nine blueliners on their roster for the rookie tournament with seven being draft picks of the team. Also competing in London, are Brian Domoulin (originally drafted in 2009 by Carolina 51 st overall) and Harrison Ruopp (originally drafted in 2011 by Phoenix 81 st overall) who were acquired by the Penguins through trades in June Of the nine defensemen the Penguins brought to London, four were selected in the first two rounds of the NHL Entry Draft, including last year s top-two draft choices, Derrick Pouliot (8 th overall) and Olli Maatta (22 nd overall): 1 st Rounders Derrick Pouliot (2012, 8 th overall); Olli Maatta (2012, 22 nd overall) 2 nd Rounders Scott Harrington (2011, 54 th overall); Philip Samuelsson (2009, 61 st overall) Further breaking down the defensemen, there are seven lefthanded shots (D Agostino; Dumoulin; Harrington; Maatta; McNeill; Pouliot; Samuelsson) and two righthanded shots (Ruopp; Seymour). FORWARDS LOOKING TO COMPETE The Penguins have five forwards signed to NHL two-way contracts competing in the 2013 rookie tournament, including Jayson Megna, Adam Payerl, Bobby Farnham, Tom Kuhnhackl, and Dominik Uher. Megna, 23, made his professional debut with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League in after signing his first NHL contract in August He totaled five goals and seven assists for twelve points in 56 regular season games while battling injuries. Megna added two goals and three assists in twelve games for WBS in the 2013 Calder Cup playoffs.

7 PITTSBURGH PENGUINS ROOKIE TOURNAMENT TEAM NOTES Payerl, 22, spent his first professional season in splitting time between the WBS Penguins (AHL) and the Wheeling Nailers of ECHL. The 6-foot-3, 218-pound center appeared in 44 games with the WBS Penguins, where he accumulated 10 points (3G-7A) and 53 penalty minutes while maintaining an even rating. Farnham, 24, split the season his first as a professional with the WBS Penguins (AHL) and the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) with fellow teammate Adam Payerl. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound enforcer appeared in 56 games with WBS, where tallied 11 points (3G-8A) and 274 penalty minutes. His penaltyminute total ranked third in the league (AHL) and first among rookies. Prior to joining WBS, Farnham played for Wheeling (ECHL), where he totaled seven points (3G-4A) and 46 penalty minutes over nine games. Kuhnhackl, 21, made his professional debut in , also splitting time between the WBS Penguins (AHL) and Wheeling Nailers (ECHL). The German native tallied two goals and two assists for four points over 11 games with WBS. While injury forced him to miss the majority of both the and seasons, Kuhnhackl has shown he can produce when healthy. In , he scored a team-leading 39 goals for the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League, adding 11 goals in 18 OHL playoff games. Uher, 20, began his professional career in , where he spent the majority of the season with the WBS Penguins (AHL). The 6-foot-1, 199-pound forward, appeared in 53 games with WBS, where he tallied four goals, three assists, seven points, and 61 penalty minutes. The Czech native added three assists over eight games in the 2013 Calder Cup playoffs.

8 FORWARDS 12 Cameron Brace RW Height: 5-foot-10 Weight: 176 lb Age: 20 (04/08/1993) Shoots: Right Had his best season to date in with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), posting career highs in points (74), goals (35), assists (39), and plus-minus (+32). His 74 points ranked second among all Sound Attack players. Ranked first on team and second in league (OHL) in with five shorthanded goals. Posted eight game-winning goals in 12-13, ranking first among Owen players, while averaging over one point per game (1.12). Named OHL Third-Team All-Star in In season, ranked fourth among all Owen Sound players, tallying 56 points (29G-27A) and posting a plus-19 rating in 68 games. His eight shorthanded goals ranked first in league (OHL). In 2012, he was the Sound Attacks top playoff performer, posting four goals and three assists for seven points in five playoff games. Helped the Owen Sound Attack win the J. Ross Robertson Cup his rookie season in 2011, posting nine points (2G-7A), and a plus-5 rating in 19 playoff games. The Sound Attack earned a berth to the Memorial Cup in 2011, where Brace posted one goal and a plus-4 rating in four games played. Prior to playing with Owen (OHL), Brace appeared in 42 games with the Huntsville Otters of the Ontario Junior A Hockey League (OJAHL), where he posted 45 points (19G-26A) in 42 games. 9 20 Jean-Sebastien Dea C Height: 6-foot Weight: 155 lb Age: 19 (2/8/1994) Shoots: Right Attended the Pittsburgh Penguins prospect development camp at CONSOL Energy Center in July. Completed his second season with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in , where he tallied 85 points (45G-40A) for 11 th -most in the league. Found great success on the power play, ranking first in the QMJHL in power-play goals (25) in regular season and tied for second in the postseason (6). Played a key role for the Huskies in the 13 playoffs, where he ranked third in total goals with 12, notching six goals on the power play. Two-time winner of the CHL Player of the Week award for the weeks of Sept. 30 and Dec. 13. Led the QMJHL in shooting percentage, tallying 45 goals in 157 shots (28.7%). Named the Telus First Star after finishing Oct as the QMJHL's leading scorer with 34 points in 17 games, including three hat tricks and 10 multi-point games. Although he went undrafted in the 2013 NHL Draft, he was rated the 116 th best available player by International Scouting Services; the 149 th overall player by Red Line Report; and the 152 nd - ranked North American skater by Central Scouting. 10 24 Bobby Farnham LW Height: 5-foot-10 Weight: 180 lb Age: 24 (01/21/1989) Shoots: Left Played first full professional season in with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL) and Wheeling Nailers (ECHL). The tough enforcer ranked third in the AHL with 274 penalty minutes in 65 games with WBS, while adding 46 more in nine games with Wheeling. Played three games with the Providence Bruins and Worcester Sharks of the AHL at the end of the season. Played collegiately at Brown University from 2008 to 2012, where he scored 54 points (23G-31A) and 128 penalty minutes in 129 career games. Served as the Bear s assistant captain for season, where he set career highs in goals (8), assists (13), and points (21). Named to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Academic Team his last two years at Brown. 11 14 Tom Kuhnhackl LW Height: 6-foot-2 Age: 21 (01/21/1992) Weight: 172 lb Shoots: Left German native made his professional debut in , playing in 11 games for the Wilkes- Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL) and two games for Wheeling of the ECHL before an upper-body injury ended his season on Dec. 2. Split the season between the Windsor Spitfires and the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Missed a majority of the campaign due to a knee injury. Enjoyed a successful first season in North America with Windsor in 10-11, leading the team with 39 goals and 15 power-play goals during the regular season. He helped lead Windsor to the OHL conference final in 11 by ranking first on the team during the postseason in goals (11), points (23), rating (+11) and power-play goals (4) in 18 games. His goal and point totals each ranked third overall in the OHL. Played for Team Germany at the 2011 World Junior Championships in Buffalo, N.Y. His father, Erich, was elected to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Hall of Fame in 1997 and was named the German hockey player of the century in He grew up a Penguins fan in Germany and his favorite player was Sidney Crosby. Scored two goals and three assists during the 2013 Calder Cup playoffs. Led all University of Nebraska-Omaha freshmen in scoring ranking third overall on the team in Member of the WCHA All-Rookie Team in Teammates at Nebraska-Omaha with Penguins prospect Josh Archibald.
