All buckles will be GPGC 50th anniversary buckles and this will be everyone s last chance to win one. This event will be the best opportunity for members to win a belt buckle at the GPGC and the last chance for a 50th Buckle. Classes are AA through D in 12 gauge and AA through C in all other events including Doubles. A total of 27 buckles are up for grabs. This is for Members only and any member can shoot in any or all events. Registered shooters should shoot their best class for the year across the boards. League shooters should shoot in the class across the boards based on league average. Please note that shoot management may adjust the classes and to be fair and balanced and so that at least 3 shooters are in each class. Ties will be settled in a doubles shoot-off from stations 3, 4 and 5. As a courtesy, shooters that have already won a buckle are encouraged to start celebrating rather than shooting against someone that has not. Continued bottom right Sunday, October 14th was a beautiful day for a skeet shoot and about 14 people had dusted off their old pump guns and come out to the club. At noon lunch by Gene Wills and desserts by Brad Fitzgerald was a good start. Then the shooting began. A Class was dominated by the man in shorts with the dark knee socks and D Class had almost the same score with a model 12 that was as old as the shooter. A-1 Jack Martin 95 B-1 Richard Kummer 90 C-1 Gene Wills 91 D-1 Al Barsh 94 Lewis Class Winners #1 Jeff Zwiebel 46 #2 Adam Roberts 41 #3 Joe Pippi 36 Continued from Skeet Championship Registration Saturday November 10th will start at 9:30 and we will start shooting at 10:00. If I have more than 25 shooters I will need to break the tournament into 2 rotations and will let everyone know when to be there. The cost will be $15 for each 50 bird event, $25 for the doubles event and $5 for lunch. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Robert Nicholas or at Skeet@GPGC.net 1

3 Recipe Corner Chicken Cordon Bleu Submitted by Dale Holder Ingredients: 4 Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast Sliced Swiss Cheese (try Provolone if you prefer something less fragrant than Swiss) Sliced Ham (try Deli Honey or Prosciutto) Bread Crumbs (try Panko) 2-3 Eggs Milk Dijon Mustard Vegetable Oil Butter Salt (try Kosher) Pepper (try fresh ground) Paprika 1 Can Mushroom Soup ½ Cup Sour Cream 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice 1.5 hours to prepare. Trim and pound the chicken down to between ¼ and ½ inch. I use wax paper or a zip lock bag to prevent the chicken juice from making a mess during the pounding. Break a few eggs and add a little milk and tbsp. or two of mustard to create the wash. Brush the chicken lightly and save the remaining wash for later. Throw on a dash of salt and pepper on both sides and then place a slice of cheese and a slice of ham on the chicken breast. Roll it up and use toothpicks or skewers to hold together. Put the chicken in the fridge for about 45 minutes. Wash your hands and poor a glass of wine. I d try something dry and white like a Chardonnay or Riesling. A light bodied Pinot Noir would work if you prefer red. Preheat oven to 400 and heat up a frying pan with some vegetable oil and a little butter. Grab a plate or shallow bowl and pour out some bread crumbs. Add a few dashes of Paprika to the bread crumbs. Pull the chicken out and trim any excess off including cheese or ham hanging out. Roll in the flour, then egg wash, Continued top right 3 and then finally get a good solid coating of bread crumbs. Fry in the pan for a couple minutes per side. Place in oven and bake for minutes. Optional sauce: Mix the mushroom soup, sour cream, and lemon juice and heat. Remove the toothpicks and slice into pieces or serve whole. Pour the sauce over the chicken and serve. Good sides include scalloped potatoes, mushrooms, rice, broccoli salad, green beans, carrots, and rolls. Tuesday Skeet League The Tuesday Skeet League ended d up with The Claybusters winning first place, The Boys barely squeaked by Go Figure for Second Place. Most Straights was won by Ginny Warren with 5 straights, followed closely by Jeff Nekuza and Bill Weatherby with 4 each. Jeff Nekuza won HOA with 328. There was a special award given to Team #8, Guys N Dolls who won Last Place. 4 50th Anniversary Kudos and Reports And a good time was had by all...! The weather was perfect, the food was excellent, the shooting was outstanding and the prizes were in abundance. Approximately 400 people came out, many early and no one was in a hurry to leave. The club was shined up and the grounds were trimmed. I believe that every member and former member was proud of what they helped to build. The club not only looks good but it is solid, built to last and financially sound. Our land paid off in August, and we have no notes against any equipment. We still have a list of projects to accomplish, but each year we have a list of things that are done as well as the list of what we plan for the next year. Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 7:00 pm the annual General Meeting of the GPSDC will be held at the club house and the Board of Directors will be voted in. Anyone wishing to be a director notify Kerry Williams (KerryWilliams58@MSN.com), and he will put you on the ballot. As a wrap up of the Anniversary party, I am presenting a long list of people and companies that donated money and/or prizes followed by a list of all the people that I can remember that helped make the event happen. Besides almost a year of planning, there were many projects that required a lot of time, and the final preparations and clean up afterwards was monumental. 5 50th Anniversary Kudos and Reports I would like to give a big thanks to Charles Richerson for putting on the air gun event at our 50th Anniversary. For those of you who have never seen pre-charged pellet guns and the accuracy they are capable of, well let me say it s impressive. Charles had everything from pistols to some of his large bore air rifles with knock down targets for all to try. Charles stayed busy recharging from hi-pressure tanks offering an array of rifles to choose from. His high end rifles sport premium optics and silenced barrels capable of accuracy on par with target grade.22s. This event turned out to be very popular with some of the younger shooters and a few of the kids were a terror at the target line. Once again a big thanks to Charles for setting up the event and sharing his time and his pellet guns with the club members. Cheers, Bill Schweitzer I arrived at 8:55 at the pistol range and found Ed Dotson, Jim Wilson, and Mike Horton putting Dale Holder s resettable steel silhouette machines up, the 5 target one at 15 yards, and the 6 target set at 25 yards. A reset rope was used to reset the targets from the firing line. A swinging steel turkey was set up at 50 yards. A little later Charles Richerson, unloaded his batch of air rifles and pistols. Paper targets were set up at 15 and 25 yards for folks wanting to shoot at these ranges. Not much activity happened before noon, other than our practicing. After lunch the shooters started coming and for a while there were many shooting at various targets. Some shooter set up target frames at 15 yards and shot at them with 9 mm and.45 ACP guns. There were quite a few folks that shot at the 15 and 25 yard resettable steel targets. Not many were successful in downing the 3 targets in 30 seconds. The pistol shooters kept coming until 4:30 PM. A good time was had by all! Dan Brown 5

7 50th Anniversary Events During the festivities Saturday, there was a Flurry Event on the 5-Stand Field. The format was 12 birds randomly thrown per person after an initial flush of 2-birds per person. There were several participants that tried the event solo, some went in pairs, and we had a whole group of 5 try at the same time! Every person started with 2 shells (including autoloaders) and as soon as pull was called, there were 2 birds in the air for each participant--so if a twoperson team went, 4 birds would be initially flush and then every few seconds, randomly either singles or doubles would throw. The key to success was whoever could successfully reload between shots. One would think the autoloaders had a advantage, but it seemed folks with over/unders were able to load more efficiently and ended up scoring better. We gave out boxes of the donated Remington shells to each participant that managed to break at Richard Kummer & Darian Mock least 80%; the grand prizes were (2) Best Buy gift cards valued at $50/each. In the end, we had well over a dozen contestants make attempts and we threw 51 rounds of 12 birds--over 600 targets! Out of the gate, Tod Dixon, put up a strong solo performance with 10 birds--everyone was impressed, and I think Tod was surprised as well! After trapping for numerous rounds, the sequence of targets thrown became apparent, and yours truly was able to take down 11 of the 12 targets. I could have sworn I ran it, but Will Chisum insisted I let one drop! For the two-man squads, Steve Allen and Jason Davidson were first on the board with an 18; not long after, I recognized the strength in the Team and then Steve and I were able to put up a 21 which stood up for the rest of the day until Jimmy Powell and Will Chisum tied the score. Steven and I took to the field one last time and put up a perfect score of 24. Since Jimmy won the skeet match, and Will the big winner in the Wolf Chase, we made sure they didn t run off with all the prizes! Steve & Darian took home the Best Buy cards. We also handed out Beretta Shooting glasses to several participants, including Tod Dixon and high lady, Sandy Yeandle. Thanks to all the participated, especially to Matt & Nancy Burke, along with Wyatt Francis in helping run the event and my thanks for helping picking up the field--thank You! Darian Mock 7

8 Fall Doubles Skeet League For a second year in a row, the Fall Doubles League ended on a cold and bluster evening. The eight week event had pitted seven teams against each other for top honors, and the fierced competitors were not about to let the weather turn them away. After the last of the dancing birds were broken, those cold faces and emtpy stomachs were able to remide themselves awaiting the scores announcement. Part of the uncertainty in the final scores was attributed to the surprising new team, styled The Adam s Family, which included Adam Kolek, his two sons Nicholas and Richard, along with Ginny Warren (captain) and husband Jay Warren. In the last year Adam and Ginny had each worked diligently on their scores and it showed; these E-class shooters were B-Class by the middle of the league! And their final team average (at 20.25) was less than 1 bird below Claybusters (21.44). But Claybusters (captain by Kerry Willaims, with Gene Wills, Gerald Evatt, John Nix, and Brad Fitzgerald) had been their usual powerhouse and managed to stay a few points ahead, winning the Champion team with 170 team-points against Adam s Family s 148. Turning to the individual contests, Mike Gerschick took the HOA with 274 birds and also took the Most Straights purse with 4 straight rounds! Finally with a 0.49 bird/week improvement, Andrew Wyer won the Most Improved title. Thanks everyone for joining us this Fall! Look for the team leagues to start up again in the Spring. In the mean time, we ll see you on the field. 9 .22 cal. Pistol Silhouette Shoot October 2012 Welcome New Members! We had 5 shooters who showed up and participated. It was rather cool, 42 degrees, and Jim Wilson and I wondered at 8:15 AM if anyone else would show up. It was beautiful weather for sitting in a deer blind...crystal clear and no wind. The shooters today were Gary Ledbetter, winner 59/60, Mike Horton 54/60, Ed Dotson 46/60, Jim Wilson 45/60 and myself, Dan Brown 39/60. Ed Dotson and I were competing for the lowest score, but I won...! Gary Ledbetter, shooting 59/60 with his Ruger MkII, 7 barrel, iron sights, and Mike Horton, shooting 54/60 with his Browning Buckmart and an Aim point red dot sight. 11 The Report from The Registered Line Greetings skeet fans, GPGC shooters are closing out the shooting year in fine style, starting with the mega-festivities in San Antonio at the end of September. In the Mini-World, L.P. Giambrone, III won both the 12 gauge and 20 gauge events, while Robert Paxton took 3rd in Doubles. (100) and Tom Sipe scored a personal best in his Sub-Senior Group 3 1st place, shooting a 98. LPG III and Tom Sipe were not the only GPGC winners in the 12 Gauge, Ken English was Veteran Group 2 1st place with a perfect 100 straight and Robert Paxton was Sub-Senior CH (100). In 20 Gauge LPG III was the overall winner, Tom Sipe posted another 98 to take SU Group 3 CH, while C. W. Dagnal blew away the Senior Veterans to take Champ with his 96. LPG III came back to the winner s stand in the.410 Bore to pick up Triple Sub CH with a 98, and he was joined by C. W. Dagnal as SV CH with a 92. LPG III was HOA 3rd overall with a 397 besting fellow GPGC er Robert Paxton in a shoot off. Robert took AAA1 HOA. In the World Championship LP Giambrone III won the 20 Gauge and Robert Paxton took the.410 Bore. In 12 Gauge Elizabeth Hoskins was part of the winning 5-Lady Zone Championship team that included Babette Burley, Teresa Botha, Jo Ellen Collin, and Marie Callahan. In the 20 Gauge LPG III was the overall victor out of a gazillion hundreds, while Elizabeth Hoskins and non-gpgc member John E. Barnes were the 2-Man team Military/Civilian Champions with a 198/200 (each having shot 99 s). In 28 Gauge LPG III was Triple-Sub Champ out of five 100 s in that age concurrent, while in the.410 Bore Robert Paxton bested 4 other shooters (including Cameron Schuster) for the.410 Gun Championship. Cameron had just shot his first ever 450 straight and won the World Championship HOA outright by two targets. LPG III was 3rd overall in the HAA, which is the 4-guns plus doubles. (546/550). Done with thinking globally down in San Antonio and back to thinking locally here in the DFW area, my favorite shoot, the Last Chance Open, was held at Ft. Worth Trap & Skeet on October 27th. This lovely one day shoot allows this Senior Life Member enough registered targets to be an active member of NSSA! Good folks combined with great food (tasty stew and cornbread) warmed hearts chilled by the sudden cold snap and unexpected wind. For those who were in serious contention for a win, Tom Sipe shot not one, but two 50 straights, winning both the 20 gauge & 28 gauge events outright. In fact, Tom s were the only perfect scores of the whole tournament. Donny Penwell had five different shoot-offs during the day for class and/or concurrent honors; he won every single shoot-off. Congrats Donny! Robert Nicholas conquered chilly weather and a brisk breeze to win the.410 gun outright with a 49/50, and Jeff Zwiebel got 3rd in the.410 by way of shoot-off. Other wins and places included 12 Gauge, Ginny Warren, C1, LY CH and hubby Jay Warren, E1, 20 Gauge, Jeff Zwiebel, A1, Randy Walhood, B1 and Tamme Cervenka, LY CH. In 28 Gauge Jeff Zwiebel took A1 & SS CH, while Elizabeth Hoskins was LY CH. In.410 Bore Donny Penwell was C1 and Elizabeth Hoskins doubled up to take her second LY CH of the day. In HOA Tom Sipe was A1, SU CH, Donny Penwell was C1, and Elizabeth Hoskins scored a hat trick by taking LY CH. That s all folks for 2012, see you in the spring when the flowers and the hopes of skeet shooters both bloom. maryannjenkins@me.com 11

12 Bullseye Match Results October 2012 October 3: We had 10 shooters participate tonight. It was a wonderfully cool time, as compared to evenings in July and August. Those shooting were Ed Dotson, George Lavender, Mike Horton, Hoa Nguyen, Jim Grabbe, Meredith Turney, Jim Wilson, Takei Takano, and Ron McCuller. We welcome new shooter Takei Takano. This is the 2nd time George Lavender has shot with us on Wednesday evening. Ed Dotson didn t do too well in slow fire and timed fire, but he roared passed everyone else in rapid fire, shooting a 91 with his M ACP, red dot sight, and one-hand hold. Congratulations guys! Thanks to Meredith for doing the score recording on her laptop. October 10: We had 7 shooters tonight. It was relatively cool, with no breeze. Fall is surely coming on us as it is getting almost too dark after rapid fire to do much The shooters were Mike Horton, Hoa Nguyen, Jim Wilson, Ron McCuller, Ed Dotson, Takeshi Takano and myself. Bret Burnett joined us to kibitz and do the timing for timed and rapid fire events. It is obvious that our fall shooting in the afternoons is drawing to a close, as after rapid fire, and picture taking time, the sun was going down and targets were getting hard to see. The shooters were Mike Horton, George Lavender, Dan Brown, Hoa Nguyen, Jim Grabbe, his daughter, Meredith Turney, Michael Wilson, his dad, Jim Wilson, Ron McCuller, and Ed Dotson. The high scorers were: Jim Grabbe, First Place, shooting a 22 Walthers GSP, using a one-hand hold, scoring 279-8Xs. His Walthers had a red dot sight. In last week s match, Hoa shot a 94 in slow fire, probably a record for anyone GPGC! Congratulations, guys! Meredith Turney collected the scores and let Brett Burnett take the pictures with her IPhone 5. Brett also did the running of the IPhone timing of timed and rapid fire courses of fire with Hoa s IPhone, using Ed s speaker system. Thanks, Meredith, Brett, Hoa and Ed. October 24: We had 9 participants out tonight, and it was evident that daylight savings time is going away fast. We just barely hed enough light to see the target on rapid fire. But it was pleasantly cool. The shooters tonight were: Ed Dotson, Mike Horton, Jim Wilson, Jim Grabbe, Michael Wilson, Dan Brown, Hoa Nguyen, and Ron McCuller. Meredith Turney took the picture with her IPhone. The high scorers were: Jim Grabbe, First Place, shooting 262-5Xs. Dan Brown, Second Place, shooting 259-3Xs. Hoa Nguyen, Third Place, shooting 250-2Xs. The two with the lowest score, clowning around were: Michael Wilson, Jim Wilson s grandson, and Ron McCuller, both scoring 181. Thanks to Meredith Turney for recording the scores and taking the pictures. Next week will be the last of the fall Wednesday Bullseye night shoots because of the time change back to regular time. October 31: We had 7 shooters participate tonight. It was nice weather, but the sunlight was fading. The shooters were: George Lavender, Jim Wilson, Mike Horton, Dan Brown, Jim Grabbe, Hoa Nguyen, and Ron McCuller. The high scorers were: Jim Grabbe, First Place, scoring 274-8Xs, Hoa Nguyen, Second Place, scoring 271-6Xs, and Jim Wilson, Third Place, scoring 253-1X. Jim Grabbe shot a 98 in timed fire! Jim Grabbe and Hoa shoot with a one-hand hold. In practice, Hoa shot a 95 on a slow fire target with his Walthers 32 S&W! Wow! Congratulations, guys! Cheers, Dan Brown 12
