Recipe Corner Sherry-Roasted Doves From Wild Game Cookbook 14 to 16 doves Salt Pepper Flour 1/2 cup salad oil 1/2 cup chopped green onions 1-1/2 cups water 1 cup sherry 1/4 cup chopped parsley Season

Bake until tender, baste with sherry occasionally. Add parsley to gravy just before serving. Serves 8 to 12.

Roll in flour. Place in oil in a heavy roaster. Bake in 400 deg. F. oven until brown. Add onions, water and sherry; cover. Bake until tender, baste with sherry occasionally. Add parsley to gravy just before serving. Serves 8 to 12. Thursday Bullseye Pistol Moves to Wednesday Afternoon Beginning October 3rd, Wednesday at 6 PM the Bullseye Pistol Matches will continue through daylight savings time. This has been a fun match though not wellattended. It is open to members and guests and any caliber pistol is okay except for magnums. We shoot 2 strings of 5 shots in 10 minutes at 50 yds. Then we move the targets to 25 yards and shoot 2 stings of 5 shots in 20 seconds per string. If you are not a target shooter and prefer you can put your targets at 25 or 15 yards, but it is a powerful feeling to learn to shoot accurately at longer ranges. Come on out and shoot with us or at least come observe! B class - Jason Foshea with avg. C class - Shannon Norris with avg. D class - Brad Fitzgerald with 37.5 avg. Almost last - Terry Cullender with 32.5 avg. tied with Debra Altenbaumer. We finally found a game that she hasn t mastered. Doubles trap is a tough game but a lot of fun. We had once again 19 shooters. The league shut down and restarted another the same night. We are now shooting: Standard Handicap Trap Singles It is Monday evenings again and will end up under the lights as day light savings time changes in early November. You are assigned a yardage to shoot from by known ability, then every three weeks your yardage will change to reflect the score you have been shooting. Since it is known that I have very little ability in trap I shoot from the 20 yd. line and I think Debra and Benny shoot from the 27 yd. line. That is still not enough handicap for them. I suggested the middle of the parking lot and maybe an eye patch on their dominant eye. Anyway come out on Monday evenings and shoot with us. Pay standard fees with a one time $10 trophy fee. Clairemont Dove Hunt by Bill Schweitzer The third weekend of September is booked every year for our annual dove hunt in West Texas.

Eddwin s property is close to the stop sign town of Clairemont (not sure if there are any inhabitants) and about 7 miles from Jayton on Hwy.

This year our group was totally represented by GPGC with Terry Cullender, Gil George, Victor Marshall and his son, dead eye Hunter, Bill Schweitzer, Forrest Weaver, Brad Ambrose, John and Chris

Normally by the third weekend in September we miss the blistering heat of opening day and still have plenty of birds - this year was no exception.

410 hunt - the most birds with 2 boxes of shells being the winner (Vic told us this was on the honor system but he would be watching me).

4 Clairemont Dove Hunt by Bill Schweitzer The third weekend of September is booked every year for our annual dove hunt in West Texas. The Bunkhouse is a bed and breakfast hunt run by Eddwin Kyle and his girlfriend Gloria. Eddwin s property is close to the stop sign town of Clairemont (not sure if there are any inhabitants) and about 7 miles from Jayton on Hwy. 380 in Kent County - the whole county only has a population of about 800 people. This year our group was totally represented by GPGC with Terry Cullender, Gil George, Victor Marshall and his son, dead eye Hunter, Bill Schweitzer, Forrest Weaver, Brad Ambrose, John and Chris Coleman, Gene Wills and the wonder dog Buddy. Gil was running a little late due to his outstanding success in an out of state Texas Hold em tournament - congratulations Gil. Normally by the third weekend in September we miss the blistering heat of opening day and still have plenty of birds - this year was no exception. No rattle snakes this year but we had plenty of the leggings just in case - Forest even bought new snake boots. Everybody managed to fill their limit of birds. Saturday afternoon we had a.410 hunt - the most birds with 2 boxes of shells being the winner (Vic told us this was on the honor system but he would be watching me). This turned out to be fun as none of us had a lot of experience with the small gauge in hunting. I found you don t need a 12 gauge to roll dove but you do have to bear down and pick your shots. You guys might want to try this. As usual the table fare was outstanding - Gloria serves home cooked meals with fresh baked deserts. This is one of those trips where you always eat too 4 much. The food and hospitality make the trip worth the drive but for a real treat, step outside at night and see the stars - simply amazing what the clear sky away from the city lights has to show. Brad was a new comer to dove hunting. I watched him make a double and smile -- he s hooked although he may not pick the snoring room again with Terry and me. If you ever need a tracker in elephant grass - Gene Will is your man - he and Buddy would disappear and come back with smiles, looking for more shells - never seem to carry enough when your having fun. Ok enough rambling. For those of you that might be interested Eddwin has dogs for quail and pheasant hunting and some of the state s trophy Mule and White Tail deer are taken on his acreage and leased lands. Projectiles may be either round ball or conical. Sights for rifle will be any metallic sights; no opticals are allowed.

The shoot will consist of five targets, 250-points offhand rifle aggregate. Rifle competitors may use any safe muzzleloading rifle of either traditional or modern design. Projectiles may be either round ball or conical. Sights for rifle will be any metallic sights; no opticals are allowed. All rifle matches are to be shot offhand, hunter-style. Distances will be 25 and 50 yards for rifles. All competitors will score their own target and complete their score sheets. The scores will be checked by the match committee. Each match will have a first, second, and third place winner that will be awarded with appropriate ribbon. The aggregate score from each match will determine the overall winner of the muzzleloader turkey shoot.
