2 LADIES AUXILIARY PRESIDENT S MESSAGE What began in 1884 as a group of Fairboard Directors Wives who displayed their home made crafts, sewing, canning, and baking for competition at Yorkton s first Fair, has grown to today s Organization the Yorkton Exhibition Ladies Auxiliary. 11 CANNING Care should be taken that the exhibit fills the requirements of the prize list as to size of container, number of jars, etc. Canned goods should not be exhibited in containers of tinted glass as this distracts from the appearance of the exhibit; the clear glass jar gives the product a clear wholesomeness. Polish the jars with a dry cloth before exhibiting and be sure the jars are tightly sealed. MUST USE HERMATICALLY SEALED DISCS (eg. New metal disc with screw top.) Never exhibit a jar of canned vegetables which is cloudy or shows sediment at the bottom of the jar. The uniformity of jars and labels, the preservation and packing of fruits and other products, the liquid or the syrup, are all taken into consideration by the Judge.
