If you do not have a computer you may come into our office during regular business hours and use our computer. We at the county office can no longer register you for state fair. WHO: All kids ages 8-18 This is a class to inform kids who want to show and do show livestock what they need to do to become a great showman. The kids will need to find a ride to and from the clinic. The clinic will include sections for goats, sheep, swine, and beef. If you would like to take notes bring paper and a writing utensil. 8 Changes from the 2017 State Fair Book Affidavits will be for unofficial use only. 4HOnline data entry for 4-H animal identification is the exhibitor s responsibility to upload into 4HOnline by June 1st at 11:59pm. Initial weight for market animals is no longer required to participate at the State Fair. DNA collection is the exhibitor s responsibility. Animal registration papers are the exhibitor s responsibility to upload to 4HOnline by July 1st at 11:59pm Weigh Back Process Change for Market Animals (Goats, Swine, Sheep, Beef): State Fair class winners and overall Top 5 Market Animals are required to weigh back for INTERNAL DATA COLLECTION PURPOSES ONLY. This data provides the South Dakota 4-H Program with information for potential future decisions. Failure to weigh back a class winner or Overall Top 5 selection will forfeit any premiums/awards and opportunity to advance to the next level of competition in the 4-H Division (Division champions are not required to weigh back). Breeding Beef and Market Beef are required to have 2 forms of identification. Aberdeen and Miniature Herefords have been added to Breeding Beef. Cats are now part of the Companion Animal Division. Companion animal ownership must be completed in 4HOnline by August 20. Companion animals must be entered for State Fair in Fair Entry by August 20. Tack Trailer Parking: Each County with 4-H Animal Exhibits (Beef, Goat, and Sheep) is allotted at least one tack trailer permit for parking in the designated 4-H Tack Trailer parking areas at the Fairgrounds. Prior to State Fair, counties will be assigned tack trailer parking for their county. Counties can divide the assigned stalls to best fit their needs. The number of tack trailer stalls will be based off the total head entered per county. When arriving at the State Fair, come to the 4-H Livestock Complex Office to obtain and pay for your county permit. The permit must be affixed to the front of the trailer. All vehicles parked in front of the tack trailers need to display a 4-H parking pass that is available for purchase at the State Fair Office. To pay for a Tack Trailer spot(s), park the trailer, note the spot number, pay for the spot in the 4-H Livestock Complex Office to receive a permit, affix the permit to the front of the trailer. The Robotics and Engineering contest will be held in the Nordby Exhibit Hall for 4-H, Youth and Community. In the Horticulture Skill-A-thon contest the Junior Classes will use the NJHA study guides for Plant Propagation; Managing Trees and Shrubs. In Senior Classes the NJHA study guides will be for Greenhouse Structures; Plant Nomenclature. For Fashion Revue the following changes have been made: o All age levels (beginner, junior, and senior) are allowed to compete in Fashion Revue. o Clothing can be entered in both Fashion Revue and Clothing and Textiles Display Project Area. o The 2018 Challenge Outfit for Fashion Revue is the Savvy Shopping Challenge. o The Fashion Revue Show will be on Sunday, September 2 at 2:00 pm in the Nordby Exhibit Hall for 4-H, Youth, and Community. Fashion Revue participants that cannot participate in the Fashion Revue Show due to another 4-H Conflict can still receive awards. o All outfits will be judged against each other within each age division. o Awards will be presented to the top five (5) participants in each age division. The top Senior will be allowed to compete at the Western National Roundup for Fashion Revue. Public Presentations will not be judged on Monday. Consumer Decision Making will be from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm. A reader will be available from 10:00 am to Noon. o Juniors will have four classes and two sets of check-type questions. o Seniors will have four classes and two sets of oral reasons. The Cat Display Exhibit and Pets-Small Animal Display Exhibits are not included with the Companion Animal Display Exhibit. The Photography Display Exhibit Area Guidelines and lots have been updated. o Youth who have photos entered in the Animal Lot have two options at how the photo will be judged. Option 1 is youth can upload photos to Fair Entry and have their photo judged in Fair Entry. Option 2 is that youth
9 SDSGA Premium Replacement Ewe Sale Saturday, July 28, pm Magness Livestock Auction, Huron, SD Offering 500 head of top quality registered and commercial replacement ewes born from Jan 1, 2017 to Jan 1, This offering will consist mainly of white-face western ewes ~ including Rambouillet & Targhee. Additional white-face breeds to be offered include Columbia, Corriedale, Dorset, Polypay, and SAMM. Black-face ewes offered will include Hampshires & Suffolks. SDSU Extension educational programs on Ewe Development and Marketing Wool will be offered from 10 am ~ 12 pm, followed by a free lamb lunch and viewing of the ewes offered prior to the sale. This sale will provide a great opportunity for sheep producers and 4-H/FFA youth to acquire foundation genetics from reputable breeders to develop a high performing ewe flock. 11 State 4-H Ambassador Program Job Description Objectives: Prepare Individuals for Roles as Leaders, Mentors, and Problem Solvers Enhance Skills in Communication, Public Speaking, and Critical Thinking Focus on Foundational Life Skills Develop Skill Specific Career Exploration Provide Positive Youth-Adult Partnerships Roles of a State 4-H Ambassador: Serve to support the 4-H program through public relations Function as a positive role model for youth in South Dakota Abide by South Dakota 4-H Code of Conduct both during and outside of 4-H events Continually strive for improvement by serving as an agent of change Promote inclusion and respect for diversity across 4-H Utilize skills and knowledge gained through 4-H to engage youth in educational activities Pro-actively engage in youth-adult partnerships Applicant Qualifications: Must be a registered 4-H member in good standing 4-H age is eligible based off of 4-H year Interviews for ambassador selection will be held at the State Fair (In-person or virtually) Individuals are eligible to serve a maximum of three terms; each term is a one-year commitment State 4-H Ambassadors applicants must apply each year regardless of returning status State 4-H Ambassador Program Requirements: Once selected, State 4-H Ambassadors are expected to participate fully in the below requirements.
