Over the years, we have accomplished a lot together. As someone who had experience in youth development, but was new to 4-H, it has been greatly appreciated to work with such dedicated volunteers and colleagues who have shared their wisdom and experience along the way. In the past ten years, we have sustained our long standing historical club program with an average of 234 volunteers each year. These club programs have helped develop the life skills, leadership and relationships among our 4-Hers. We have also grown our afterschool and outreach programs to serve an average of 1,000 youth each year. In 2015, 1,644 youth engaged with 4-H through clubs, afterschool, school enrichment, camps, military partnerships and other educational opportunities. I have had the pleasure of watching 4-Hers grow from youth members to college students, parents and successful adults! I ve also had the joy of having 2 children, one of whom is a budding 4-Her! Time has certainly flown by. While I have certainly enjoyed and appreciated my time as your Baltimore County 4-H Educator, I m excited to share I ve been offered the opportunity to join the Maryland 4-H Team as the new Curriculum and Program Specialist. I will transition into this position on June 27 th. However, I will still be engaged locally as a Baltimore County 4-H parent and as a member of the broader Maryland 4-H family. In an effort to support our families and volunteers through this transition, we will host a Visioning Session on June 7 6:00-7:00 p.m. Jeff Meyers (our Area Extension Director), Dwayne Murphy (our Agent Associate Educator) and I will take some time to discuss our current programs and plans for the future. We will also have time to hear any concerns or suggestions you may have moving forward. We hope you are able to join us for this gathering. Please RSVP to Wendy Dilworth at Wendydil@umd.edu or so that we can plan accordingly. Well...I hope you ve made it through this lengthy ! There s much more I would ve liked to share...but hope you can join us on June 7 th to reflect more on our Baltimore County 4-H program! Thanks for your support and all you do for the youth in our county! Congratulations to Lynne Thomas for earning a spot on the Maryland delegation to National 4-H Congress! Lynne is a 7 year member of the Baldwin club. She is the current vice president and is very active in her community through various service projects. She has recently become very active in both the county and state teen council. Lynne successfully submitted a superb senior portfolio and had a successful statewide interview in order to earn this opportunity. Page 2 We are officially in June and you know what that means. It s time to register for the Maryland State Fair! Here is the link to the 4-H classes and rules and regulations. com/exhibitors/4-h Please make sure you read over all your classes and the rules and regulations for any changes. For 2016, members will have access to the AH&QA program from March 15 th through August 10 th. Members MUST complete the AH&QA training no later than August 10 th. Counties may establish a completion deadline earlier than August 10 th to meet the needs of the local program. 4-H ers are required to complete the on-line training program when they reach each 4-H age division (Juniors (ages 8-10), Intermediates (ages 11-13), Seniors (ages 14-18) all as of January 1 of the current year OR when as Intermediate and Senior 4-H members, they choose to show a new species since last completing the program within their age division. QUALITY ASSURANCE Members may go directly to the AH&QA program at or a link to access the AH&QA program will be posted on the Animal Science Program Resources page of the Maryland 4-H website at The program must be completed using Firefox, Chrome or Safari web browsers. The program is not supported by Internet Explorer. The on-line program gives youth the opportunity to fulfill the Animal Husbandry and Quality Assurance training requirement via internet from their home, school or local library. The AH&QA program has voice narration, so the material is shared in both written and oral form. Members will be asked to respond to questions to evaluate knowledge at different points during the program. There are two Levels to the program: one level is for Junior members and the second level is for Intermediate and Senior members. Members will be automatically taken to the appropriate Level according to the birthdate entered on the registration screen The program takes about minutes to complete, depending on which level is being completed. When members register for the program, they will be provided a unique Passcode. Members should write their Passcode down and keep it in a safe place! If a member needs to stop the AH&QA training in the middle of the program, he or she may return to the program where they left off by entering their Passcode on Welcome screen of the program. ALL new members and members completing the Online AH&QA program prior to 2015 must register to receive a NEW PASSCODE. Passcodes from 2015 should still be active for members. A member must be LOGGED IN for the system to track their progress and record their completion of the program. There is a note at the top of the screen indicating the member s status. When logged in, the message will read Logged in: [Member s Name]. If the member is not logged in correctly, the message will not identify them by name it will identify them as a Guest. Progress will NOT be recorded as a Guest. Upon completion of the program, members will have an opportunity to print a Certificate of Completion for their records. It is suggested that members keep the Certificate of Completion with their animal health papers, registration papers, and other animal records. Each member s progress will be kept in a statewide database and their County 4-H staff will receive notification that they have completed the AH&QA training.
