5 BEEF TYPE COWS/HEIFERS IN OR WITH CALVES AT FOOT Late entry cows and calves lots 81/90, pens 31/33 M/s Lower Turnant Farm Partnership, Longtown Pens 2/18 TB Foreword The Turnant Herd of traditional pedigree Herefords This special and well balanced herd was established under a decade ago and has since grown rapidly. The policy was to purchase a substantial starter group of cattle from a maximum of 3 sources and to become closed thereafter. Key to selection were renowned, rare bloodlines and a clean bill of health. The majority of initial stock was acquired from the well-known Shefford herd which itself was based heavily on Llandinabo stock. Key female lines bred at Turnant are Model, Curly, Gaymaid and Julia. Great care was given to selection of the 2 stock bulls, Laxfield Herald and Boresisle Opus, both of which performed splendidly. Opus is still with the herd and will be offered to the market at the sale. Turnant Herefords are grass-fed and health risks have been managed under the Premium Cattle Health Scheme. There has been no TB outbreak at the herd since it was established. Two years ago, rapid growth led to the appointment of a new Managing Partner of the farming business - local man Elliot Pritchard. His input has lead to the evolution of a new plan which is being implemented. Correct at time of going to press 5 E & OE
