At 4-H Exploration Days, you ll: Learn new ideas and skills that will make you think about careers AND teach you something you can use back home Get involved and learn by doing, not just sitting and listening Try things that just aren t available in your county Get to be independent and responsible for yourself by managing your time, making good decisions and working as a team Meet people who are and aren t like you, from every part of the state, face-to-face instead of on Facebook Have the entire Michigan State University campus and everything you can do there right outside your window How? There ll be about 200 session choices held on and off campus. You ll choose one or two for your three-day stay. You ll live in a Michigan State University dorm and eat in the cafeteria just like MSU students do. Sessions are taught by people who know their stuff, including MSU faculty, 4-H volunteers and staff members and other experts. It s not all sessions! There s plenty of time for fun, including swimming, skating, souvenir shopping, exploring, bowling, basketball even a great dance Thursday night. If you were at least 11 years old on January 1, 2015 you can attend Exploration Days. You don t even have to be a 4-H member! The 2015 cost is $165 ($175 for those not enrolled in 4-H yet). The fee includes all meals, a shared room in a dorm, your sessions and a t-shirt. Registration opens March 17, Registration books that show all of the sessions and details on everything happening during Exploration Days are available online at and from the 4-H Office. Don t wait until the deadline though, because popular sessions fill up fast! Please visit our website at for registration forms under the member resources tab. We will accept registrations now through April 30th; please keep in mind that registrations are entered and scholarships assigned on a first come basis. All registrations are required to submit $80 deposit with registration form.

You may choose the training offered in Ingham County, attend in another county or complete online by June 15th. The training in Ingham County will be held on Sunday, March 22 at Fairgrounds Community Building from 10:00 am-11:15 am. Then join us for a nutrition education program and showmanship clinic from 11:15 am 4:00 pm (lunch provided). For questions, please contact Mark McCorkle, 4-H Program Coordinator, at Form can be downloaded at: State 4-H Rabbit & Cavy Show Results January 30, exhibitors 1410 entries PQA ONLINE CERTIFICATION FOR 2015 Youth exhibitors will have the opportunity to complete their PQA training requirements via an online training module. The module will include a testing procedure for youth in the intermediate and advance categories. Ingham County exhibitors wishing to complete the requirement online must complete by June 15th. Youth can take the course online and at the completion of the course, beginners will receive a one year certification. Intermediate and senior youth will be directed to an age appropriate online exam. If youth chose to take the course face-to-face with a Youth PQA Plus advisor, they need to ask their advisor about taking the exam. The training module does not have to be completed in 1-setting; however the test must be completed once the youth has started it. 4 STATEWIDE CALENDAR OF EVENTS 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor Workshop April 24 26, 2015 Kettunen Center Registration due: April 15 (classes fill quickly) Cost: $ ($20 scholarship available from 4-H Council upon completion of request form) 4-H Workshops April 24-25: Michigan 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor Certification Workshop Kettunen Center, Tustin This workshop offers a variety of training sessions including rifle, shotgun, archery and hunting and wildlife which are partial fulfillment of the requirements to be a MI 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor. Join us and see all that the 4-H shooting sports program has to offer! Learn how we foster positive youth development through the shooting sports, and try techniques that effectively help youth learn safe and proper use of guns and archery equipment. You do NOT need to retake the training unless you ve been inactive for more than 3 years or your certification has lapsed. March 25, April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, May 6, 13 At this point, the plan is to have the meetings be from 7:00-8:30 pm on Wednesday evenings at the fairgrounds Main Pavilion. I hope to line up some professional handlers and some other speakers to help give our youth and the leaders some "mini workshops" during some of these meetings so stay tuned! These meetings will provide valuable training and insight to 4-H ers. If you can t attend, you may miss some critical tidbits that could mean the difference in your class placements. 6 Saturday, March 28th, 2015 MSU College of Veterinary Medicine Are you interested in becoming a veterinarian? Once a year, MSU's College of Veterinary Medicine opens its doors to show off its state-of-the-art facilities and amazing programs. You are invited to join MSU students, faculty, and staff at Vetavisit, where you will be introduced to the professionals, animals, and technology that make up one of the most exciting professions in the world. There will be interactive exhibits and demonstrations on everything from canine genetics to practice cases, allowing you to test your veterinary skills. A big "Thank You" to the 32 clubs who have completed the enrollment for this year, we hope the process will continue to improve as we learn the system and the many features it offers to us. For the remaining clubs who have not turned in payment and completed the online enrollment, you must do so as soon as possible. Either come by the office or call and we will work with you concerning the post-deadline re-enrollment. New Volunteers? As you continue in your projects for the year, remember that all volunteers who work with youth other than their own children (project leaders, resource and activity volunteers, etc.), must go through the MSU Extension Volunteer Selection Process (VSP). Some adults in your clubs may have a status of Incomplete because they have not completed VSP. Please encourage them to do so. Thank you for all your hard work, your time, and energy in making the best better! We hope your final weeks of winter are happy and healthy.
