2 Foreward Welcome to Labatte Simmentals 28th Annual Spring Bull & Female Sale on Friday, February 29th, 2008 at Johnstone Auction Mart, 4 miles west of Moose Jaw on #1 highway. Another year has gone by and oh! how fast it has gone. It just seems like yesterday that we got done harvesting and now we are calving cows and getting ready for another bull sale. I d really like to thank all our bidders and buyers from previous sales and the effort you make to attend our sale. Sometimes the weather and roads haven t been very good for traveling, but you have made a great effort to get here and that is very much appreciated. Our sale is usually the fi rst Friday in March but because of leap year in 2008 we have moved to Friday, February 29th to keep our sales together, staff included. Next year we will be back to the fi rst Friday in March again. Simmental genetics are becoming very, very popular with the commercial man, feedlot operators and packing plants. With their very high maternal traits, they have superior performance in the feedlot and have excellent carcass value. There has never been a more important time to purchase the best Simmental bulls you can and put to advantage the great maternal strength of the Simmental breed and their excellent feedlot performance. This past fall those big, soggy, Simmental steers were very much in demand and pounds really make a difference in profi tability. Our sale offering this year consists of 75 thick, meaty, beef bulls and 22 open, purebred replacement heifers, consisting of Red factor, blacks and fullbloods. On offer will be almost 50 red bulls, 18 black bulls and 10 Fullblood - Fleck infl uence bulls. All the red and black bulls are polled and most are several generations red or black and polled. We will be testing several bulls for homozygous polled and homozygous black and the results will be available sale day. Our female sale offering is very deep in quality. Our red, open, purebred, polled heifers are headed by Red Teddy and Top Gun progeny and we will have several good polled, black heifers to go along with them. In past sales the heifers coming out of this sale have gone on and done great things for some of their new owners. The IPU Miss Red Ribeye 71N cow was purchased by Robb Farms out of our spring sale and look what she has done for them, as they declare her the best cow on their place. Her past and future progeny have already made an impact in the Simmental industry. These heifers selling in our sale have been very affordable and high in quality. Again this year, 3D Simmentals, the Schwartz s, will be our guest consignor. They have an excellent set of bulls coming to the sale this year including the Reserve Champion pen of bulls they showed at Agribition. Bulls over 12 months of age at time of testing will be semen tested. Bulls under 12 months of age at time of testing will return to LaBatte or 3D farms to be semen tested prior to delivery. Weights will be posted sale day. All bulls and heifers were given Cattlemaster 4, Somnustar PH and Fortress 7 in June and boostered with same in September. All were treated with Ivomec Pour-on in December. If you are unable to attend the sale but are interested in our bulls give Barry or Dean a call and they will personally go over the bulls and your program with you. They will recommend which bulls they think would meet your satisfaction and refer you to one of their sale staff. At the buyer s option and risk, LaBatte Simmentals and 3D Simmentals will take purchaser s bulls home, feed them under their management and deliver them FREE anywhere in the prairie provinces to your nearest central location. We will do our utmost to deliver them right to your yard. Delivery will take place between April and the middle of May. For bull buyers outside the prairie provinces, bulls will be delivered at a reasonable charge. The bulls are the property of the buyer as soon as they are sold. Therefore, buyers must insure their animals for the time they are at LaBatte and 3D s. The heifers will be delivered as soon as possible after the sale. All animals will carry the standard breeding guarantee as specifi ed by the Canadian Simmental Association. At no time shall the seller s liability exceed the purchase price of the animal. They are mothered by a super producing Red Chief daughter that s in our donor program now. Roughrider has been a very exciting calf right from day one. He has so much natural muscle, rib shape and depth, very smooth made, has big testicles and a great disposition. Like our Saskatchewan Roughriders football team, we too believe 2T is a champion. Whether a purebred operator or commercial man, this Fleck infl uenced calf has a lot to offer the beef industry.

We were fortunate to purchase an exclusive semen package in him from Arrow Creek Simmentals in 2005 and we used him heavily in our program and he has worked out tremendously for us. He calves easy, puts lots of rib and muscle in his offspring, is homozygous polled, leaves great dispositions and lots of testicles in his bulls - just a very complete bull. 44T is patterned at lot like his daddy. 7

EPDs: A cherry, cherry dark red son of Five Star who was the high selling red bull in TNT Simmentals bull sale in 2005, selling to Kjelgaard Simmentals of North Dakota. We were able to purchase a semen unit in him and get a little lead time in his genetics. His calves have lots of performance, good dispositions, they re all polled and are cherry dark red. 76T s dam was the Champion heifer, judged by a panel of judges at the 2005 Checkers Sale. She was DNA homozygous polled so this makes 76T homozygous polled. This is a very interesting calf with his 70 lb. birth weight, his style, color, thickness and pedigree. His mother is a solid, dark red Ribeye daughter out of the LBR D-430 cow, who is the great grandmother of the very popular HC Hummer bull in the U.S. and the mother of LBR Right Dream H830, the famous donor cow raised by Little Bitterroot Ranch in Montana. We were fortunate enough to purchase the D-430 cow from Little Bitterroot and she has done an exceptional job for us; still producing at the age of 14 years and her udder is still perfect. We think this calf has a lot of profi tability in him. A lot of semen could be sold on him to use on heifers. I think the industry is really looking for a couple of new sires to use A.I. in their heifer pens. Coupled with his low birth weight, Specialist is very stylish, smooth made, very correct, has very good quarter in him, good testicles and should be a non-diluter, as he has black hair in his muscle and tail. There is a lot of opportunity in this calf. We will be retaining a 1/3 semen interest in Specialist 70T. IPU 5-STAR 76T POLLED PUREBRED MALE PG IPU 76T 22 January

IPU Black Resistol 193R Well, Fortunate 111L does it again! This solid black, super producing Fortune 500 female is one of our very best cows on the place. Fortunate x Stetson is explosive. At our 2006 Bull sale her Stetson son, Black Resistol 193R, sold for $10,250 to Craig & Kathy Hogg of the LC Ranch in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Phone Craig and ask him what he thinks of Resistol and his calves. He collected semen on him and used him very heavily in his purebred and commercial herd. We are getting calves right now ourselves off of him and are very excited about them. In July of 2006, we offered for sale at the World Congress sale in Calgary, the pick of our 2006 heifer calf crop and KBR Simmentals of Midale, Saskatchewan was the successful bidder at $9,500. Guess who Ken took? A full sister to Resistol, another Stetson x Fortunate progeny. In 2007, Black Cinch was born, another Stetson son and what a tremendous calf again. The #1 weaning index calf over all the other bulls, whether black, red or Fullblood. He was just like his brother Resistol who too was the #1 indexing bull of his group.
