2 2016 RICHLAND COUNTY FAIR CARLETTA HEIDE STAGE DEDICATION A special dedication was held this year at the County Fair honoring and remembering Carletta Heide, who passed away in May. She left a valuable legacy behind in all that she had done for Richland County 4-H, our schools and our community. Carletta was a CDS teacher, a 4-H member as a youth and a 4-H leader in her adult life as well as having served on the Richland County 4-H Leaders Board, the Richland County Fairgrounds Improvement Committee and so many other numerous community organizations as well. She always put the best interest of kids at the forefront. So it was only appropriate that the stage in the Connection Building be named in her honor. A beautiful sign designed and built by David Ewing was unveiled at the dedication and just like Carletta, it is grand and glorious. RICHLAND COUNTY FAIR LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS Each year lifetime achievement awards are presented by WRCO and the Richland County Fair to individuals whose work and contributions have made Richland County a better place to live, work and grow. This year there were three recipients honored for this award. Buena Anderson Buena Anderson has been a 4-H leader for 57 years and served as general leader of the Gault Hollow Livewires and the Boaz Boosters 4-H Clubs. She continues to be a clothing project leader for the Boaz Boosters clothing members. Buena, a very talented and giving person, has shared her knowledge and taught many 4-H ers the fine art of sewing along with other projects that did not have a leader. Her contribution to the Richland County youth, her church and community was never ending, always there to teach and lend a hand. John Turgasen John Turgasen was a 4-H member as a youth in the Sabin Livewires 4-H Club and he continued to be involved in 4-H with his own children and grandchildren. He was the dairy project leader for the Sabin Livewires, giving of his time and knowledge for the many aspiring young future farmers; and he served as dairy superintendent for the county fair for 38 years. Sandy Campbell Sandy Campbell has been part of Richland County 4-H for 46 years. She started as a member of the Boaz Boosters, the club she now has been the general leader for 37 years. Sandy is also known for work in the Richland County Extension Office, where she has served the 4-H Program since However, it is her dedication and passion to the values of 4-H and the Richland County Fair that go above and beyond her duties at the office that make Sandy Campbell such a deserving recipient of the lifetime achievement award. RECOGNITION CORNER Thank you to..there are not enough words to express our thanks for all the fair exhibitors, parents and leaders, as well as everyone (fair superintendents, helpers, Fair Board, Carla Doudna) that worked so hard to make the county fair a great success. All funds raised go to the Richland County 4-H Program!...to everyone who helped with the beautification project at the Richland County Fairgrounds this past summer, from planting flowers, building the rock wall for the 4-H garden area, weed eating, painting the 4-H building sign, to painting the Livestock and Avery E. 4 NATIONAL 4-H WEEK OCTOBER 2-8, H ROAD RALLY - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8, 1 P.M. Meet at the Richland County Extension Office parking lot Open to Everyone! Get a group together and be ready for an adventure! Cost is $5 per car and is a fundraiser for the Richland Co. 4-H Jr. Leaders Assoc. Suggested things to bring: pencils, pens, colors, map, and a sense of direction - OH! And a full tank of gas! What is a road rally you ask? It is a fun family event! It is suggested that you have a maximum number of people per vehicle, think of it as the more the merrier (with safety in mind). At the start your mileage will be recorded and at your designated departure time, you will be handed an envelope with a list of questions and directions (ie. it may say turn right at the house with the blue door). At times you will have to park and get out of your vehicle to find the answer to one of the trivia questions, other times you will be able to just drive by. Average speed is about 40 mph and you will be exploring a majority of the county! What a great way to view all the autumn scenery!! Everyone will end at the same location and when you reach the destination, your mileage and time will be recorded. There will be penalties for wrong answers, too many or to few miles, and too little or too much time. Be prepared for lots of laughter, Ah-ha moments and maybe just a little bit of yelling in the vehicle! MEDALLION HUNT A medallion will be hidden somewhere in Richland County. Beginning on Monday, October 3rd, one clue will be released each day until the medallion is found. Check each day as the clues build on each other. Clues can be found at: - WRCO Radio - Richland County 4-H Facebook page - Richland County Extension Office. If you find the medallion, please call Karleen or Sandy at the Extension Office, Bring it to the Extension Office for a Hall of Fame Picture and prize bag! Happy Hunting!! NEW THIS YEAR. GEOCACHING!!
