2 Welcome to our 10th Made in America Bull Sale Customer and Friend, Thank you for taking the time to read through our catalog. If you have any questions, please ask. Choosing a herd sire is an important decision. It affects your herd and your income for years to come. We encourage you to view the bulls before the sale or come early on sale day. We will have donuts and a warm drink waiting for you. Valued customer - Purchasing sire groups will help you achieve calf and herd uniformity and predictability. Buyers will pay more for uniform load lots. Customers that have been with us for a number of years have the uniformity to sell their calves in load lots. All of the bulls have small heads and tight, clean sheaths. Their mothers are efficient. The ( per Day of Age) is unmatched. All Angus bulls born in 2004 averaged lb. and 700 lb.. Our Angus cows weighed an average of 1,248 lbs. and we had a 98% conception rate. The cows weaned 48% of their actual weaning weight on September 2, The adjusted yearling weight is based on current weight plus times the number of days to 5 from the date weighed. Your purchases have not been exposed to other cattle in stockyard facilities. They are born, tested and sold right here on the ranch. Keep in mind our bulls are grown out so their feet and legs stay sound. We have customers still using bulls they purchased from us that are 8 and 9 years old. ($50 off per bull to past customers.) We keep all bulls free of charge until the third or fourth week in April and then deliver them free to your ranch or farm. All bulls will be semen tested before delivery. All bulls are registered and all registration papers will be transferred to the purchaser. Our job is breeding cattle for today s cattlemen and to provide a service to our customers, a job we take seriously. We cull a minimum of 12-15% of our cow herd annually based on calf weaning weight (first of September) in relation to the cow s body weight, thus perpetuating the most efficient and predictable performing cows in our herd. Affordable Bulls 2004 Bull Sale Results 34% of the bulls sold for $2,500 or less. 59% of the bulls sold for $3,000 or less. Catalog by Hereford America, Inc. 605/ Breeding Strategies: For uniform, predictable calves & replacement heifers (the future of your cow herd) here are three different breeding strategies. 1. Use 1/2 brothers (bulls with the same sire). Try to get these paternal brothers with similar performance numbers, similar dam s nursing ratios and, most importantly, similar phenotype or body style. 2. Use Razzi, Link, Vision, Alliance, or Belzer semen and then turn their sons out for clean-up. This works super. 3. Buy a really good bull and get him collected. We will line it up with the stud and deliver your bull to the stud for you. Use his semen on your cows and then clean up with him and his 1/2 brothers (bulls out of the same sire). If you choose option 2 or 3 you will need more than normal bull power as the synchronized group goes through the first two cycles. Reason is, they will stay grouped together for the next two cycles. This synchronizing of your cow herd will give you a tighter calving period also. Artificial Insemination A few of our customers are turning to AI to improve their herds & accelerate the genetic progress of their herds. If you are thinking about artificial insemination this year, give me a call and I ll be glad to help you set up a program. We also give a discount to our customers. All of our herd bulls are collected and we have a good supply of semen available. We do sell semen all over the US and in New Zealand, Australia and Canada. Inspection of Bulls: You are encouraged to look at the bulls at Isaacs Cattle Co. any time. Bulls will be on display at the ranch. Fertility: All bulls are scrotal measured. All bulls that are wintered at Isaacs Cattle Co. will be fertility tested before delivery. Bulls that are taken home after the sale will be guaranteed to pass a fertility test. Wintering Program: Free wintering and care until delivery in April. Buyers unable to attend the Sale: Buyers may give their bids to the auctioneer, ringmen or Nick Isaacs. The bulls you bid on will be purchased for the least possible price. There have been only three phone bids maxed out in nine years. There will be 3 phone lines for call-in bids this year. A person will be designated by me to take the calls. These bulls are guaranteed to your satisfaction. Normally 25% of the bulls sold are from phone orders prior to the sale. 6 Maternal Efficiency Functional udder on a 13-year-old cow. Udder on a first-calf heifer. Her calf sells. One of Isaacs Cattle Co. goals: 97% of my cows will breed back in 45 days and all of them will wean 50% of her body weight on grass in 205 days. We weigh every cow on the ranch the same day we wean or soon thereafter, figure an efficiency index and sell the poorest indexing cows through the sale barn. These cows and calves are not a mistake but the result of years of strict culling and planned breeding. Efficient cows that wean 50% of their body weight year after year. If a breeder does not have uniform calves how can his customers? Isaacs Cattle Co. weighs every cow on the ranch on weaning day or soon thereafter. I pulled her into the barn 10 days before the show to get her ready. She only received hay and some oatbased feed while getting her fit. I will forward a photograph later. All the cows are between 105 and 120 days pregnant. We also have successfully synchronized the heifers because they are all at 130 days. We had a vet come with an ultrasound unit for preg checking. I have not put the calf weights in but I think they will be great adjusted 205 day weights. The bull from 1711 was 189 days old today and he was right at 600 lbs. (a nice little bull) weighed in at 1,300 lbs and the largest cow was 1,375 lbs. I hope to have 10 calves in the spring and I will let you know how that goes. I have included a picture of 1711 and her bull calf mentioned above. P.S. I will most likely be coming to your sale to buy another bull this February. - South Dakota Customer Hi, Nick! Martin is a wonderful friend. He helped me design the corrals and barns and helped me all summer, making sure I had the proper materials and came down often to help me. I don t know what we would have done without Martin & Arlene s help. Thanks so much. Herb Pitan, Draper, SD, has used Isaacs Cattle Co. bulls for four years. This year his April & May steers sold in one draft except for seven head. They weighed 622 lbs. at Ft. Pierre. The past three years Herb s steers averaged 642 lbs. Rhonda Cordell, Camp Crook, SD.
