3 ALTWASSER CHAROLAIS Welcome everyone! This is a very special occasion for us as it is our 35 th year in the Charolais business. We appreciate your patronage over the years and thank you for validating our belief in the Charolais cattle. We are proud to be a part of a cross breeding program for many ranchers who have supported us throughout the years. To be successful in the cattle industry today, managing your business to the optimum is crucial, and finding the avenues that fit your operation, is rewarding. The ever popular buckskin calf along with the accepted silver calf are coming into the forefront once again. They appeared to be the main choice of cattle buyers last fall. To produce these types of calves, we need a strong female base. This past summer was challenging for our cow herd as lack of moisture produced low pasture production. Yet, the 35 years of breeding genetic strength in our females produced satisfactory weaning weights in their calves. As well, the AI bulls we used were put to the test and their genetic strength came through. I am very excited about this year s bull selection. The pictures of our bulls give you an idea of what they look like, but they must be seen to admire their growth and thickness. Our bull calves had no creep feed. Once our calves are weaned, we work closely with Mike Witt fieldman / nutritionist - Sure Crop Feeds. We develop a custom mix ration to provide maximum skeletal growth which compliments the natural muscling. Our bulls exercise on five acres, are very athletic, have great length and sound structure. The BOND x BONANZA has worked extremely well for us. Our herd health program works closely with Dr. Ron Flater, our local Vet. The bulls are semen tested and guaranteed to breed. If you decide to purchase a bull at the sale, we would like to take him home, feed him until April and deliver at no cost to you. 14 14 RRTS RRTS CHAROLAIS Hello and welcome to the 2010 Valley Charolais Bull Sale! This past fall we attended the auction sales at Valley Auction in Armstrong as well as the Co-op in Kamloops, Okanagan Falls and Williams Lake and it was a pleasure to see the impressive buckskin and silver Char X calves present. We noted the Char X heifers weren't far behind the steer prices and judging by the sales the feedlot buyers were obviously impressed with the powerful Char X heifers and steer calves and as always, it was great to see. Our goal has always been to produce bulls that offer calving ease and performance all in one and we believe that this year the bulls sired by Invincible have really got us there. These bulls have got the square hips, ribs, loose hide and they really grow. This gentleman brings a lot to the table and is truly a stepping stone in the industry, being the son of a 2003 Female Champion of all breeds. The other bulls on offer sired by Gridmaker, Deliverance and Vermillion all have something special to offer, low birth weights and solid performance for your program. In addition to carefully selecting our A.I. sires, we also believe that teaming them with quality performance dams is critical to the success of our entire herd and all future offspring. As such, we were very delighted this year to have purchased two solid quiet young cows from Merritt Cattle Co. to enhance and widen our female base. We continually strive to develop our female herd to ensure that the cross with our chosen A.I. sires is advantageous. We have been very fortunate to have teamed up with Heather van Dalfsen of Dairy Source who has done just a remarkable job customizing our total mixed bull ration (TMR) which contains no extra additives, just healthy nutrients to ensure the bulls are in top health condition. We moderately creep feed our calves (1 to 1 1/2 lb of Dairy Source s gentle mix) starting in the summer to ensure that they are getting proper vitamins and nutrients for proper development. We find this also allows for an easier transition (less stress on them) when they are weaned. Our website is finally up and running and we would love for you to check it out at [the sale catalogue will be posted on the site]. Future plans for the site include a special commercial page which will be dedicated to our commercial customers with hopes that you will provide us with some photos of your Charolais cross calves as we would be proud to show them off. If we can be of assistance to you in any way please call, or saddle up and stop by the farm. In the meantime we hope to see you at the sale on March 11th. 28 COMMENTS FROM REPUTABLE RANCHERS (Repeat Customers) Darrell Squair - Manager, Squaw Valley Ranch On our operation, performance cows crossed with Charolais work because of the pounds produced at weaning. We still get paid by the pound. David Allingham, Owner, Allingham Ranch We like the growth and the eye appeal of the buckskin calves out of the red female cows. We get performance and good calving ease. The Char X provides the quality calves that the feedlots are looking for. Keith Balcaen - Owner, Coldstream Ranch I really like the outcross on the Charolais buckskins and silvers as they have very high productive gains. The Char X heifers come in the right grade, smooth and have very solid performance. 29 TERMS and CONDITIONS This sale is CCA certified. All breeding guarantees and auction practices will be as outlined in the CCA Code of Ethics. TERMS: Terms of the sale are cash or cheque and is payable in Canadian funds at sale location. No cattle shall be released before settlement is made and sale management reserves the right to demand a certified cheque before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for purchase, management reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage. Either publicly or privately. Any loss arising from such resale, together with keep and all other expenses, shall be payable by the defaulter. BIDS: Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer s decision will be final. PURCHASER S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. An insurance broker will be available sale day. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Errors discovered in the catalogue will be corrected by the auctioneer at sale time and will take precedence over the printed matter in catalogue. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: Proper Registration or Recordation paper will be provided to the buyer after settlement has been made. CCA will transfer the records. BREEDING GUARANTEE: Should any bull under the age of fourteen months or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows, known to be breeders, the matter should be reported to the seller within six months of purchase. The seller will then have the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. This is providing the bull has been maintained in satisfactory breeding condition. 29
