2 Running the 5K is a lot like following your dreams. When you run, you set a pace and press on. When pursuing your dreams you must accomplish goals along the way to reach your dreams. Never give up. Shaylee, 5 th grade GOTR Girl Who We Are Girls on the Run International started with 13 girls in 1996 and since that time has served over 1.4 million girls. Girls on the Run of the Shenandoah Valley is one of 225 councils nationwide. Since our first team of 25 girls in the fall of 2011, our growth has been nothing short of remarkable! Since 2011 Number of girls served: Over 2,000 Sites/teams served: 40 Scholarships: 1,122 Scholarship $ s awarded: $127,811 Volunteer Coaches: over 300 5K Participants: 5,000 Since over 60% of our girls receive a full or partial scholarship to cover the $150 program fee, we rely on the generosity of our communities for support. What We Do Council Territory In Virginia: Winchester, Harrisonburg, Clarke, Frederick, Page, Rockingham, Shenandoah and Warren In West Virginia: Berkeley, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson and Morgan *********************************** It is our strong belief that every girl who wishes to participate should be able to regardless of family income. Using an intentional curriculum that integrates physical activity, our trained coaches teach girls critical life skills and strategies they can apply to all aspects of their lives. Why It Matters * Girls self-confidence begins to drop by age 9 * 50% of girls ages 10 to 13 experience bullying such as name calling and exclusion * Physical activity levels decline at age 10 and continue to decrease throughout adolescence

3 Become a Girls on the Run How Sponsor you can help Our Program At Girls on the Run, we inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through our research-based curricula which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event. Corporate Sponsorship Help girls reach their limitless potential by becoming one of GOTRSV s valued corporate sponsors. Your organization s sponsorship will not only have a direct impact on the girls who participate in our program but will also support the overall success of the program as well as its bi-annual 5K race celebration. Our sponsors help us provide: - Scholarships to individual girls and/or entire teams - Program t-shirts and healthy snacks for GOTR girls - Curriculum, materials and supplies for lesson activities - Training for volunteer coaches to ensure effective and quality curriculum delivery - Background checks and CPR/1st aid training for coaches - 5K race t-shirts for all registered runners, 5K completion medals for all GOTR girls, healthy snacks at the finish line, and other costs associated a successful race.
