2 HR & ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES HAVE MOVED The offices for HR & Administrative Services have moved to 90 Greenmanville Avenue. All job postings as well has benefits information are now located in the front offices of the building. Please stop in to say hello to Mark, Jacqueline or Jeanne anytime! NEW MYSTIC SEAPORT WEBSITE We are pleased to announce the launch of the new and improved Mystic Seaport website. This is the culmination of a project that began last fall. The goal was to move the site to a new and up-to-date content management system in this case WordPress and to improve functionality and a fresh design. The URL hasn t changed, it is still and we have a lot of new content to add over the next few months, but we are off to a great start. Should you have any questions or see a problem, please webmanager@mysticseaport.org. Dan McFadden & Erin Richard WELCOME BRIAN KONONCHIK Brian joined Mystic Seaport on Friday May 24th th as the Sabina Apprentice Engineer. He will report directly into Ed Crotty. Brian grew up here in Mystic, CT living his life on boats and the beach. He started his boating career sailing with his mother, Diane, and uncle, Rick Berggren, later adding powerboats with his father Michael. Brian attended high school at Fitch and played football and track. After graduation Brian studied at Assumption College located in Worcester, Mass. where he later transferred to Southern CT State University to study history. Throughout his studies at Southern, Brian worked here at the Mystic Seaport as a Youth Sailing Instructor. After graduation he tried out a few different fields and ended up in Shipwrighting. He bounced around from contract to contract realizing he enjoyed working at the Seaport the most and found the job of Apprentice Engineer on the Sabino. Brian is married to his wife, Rebecca, and they have a daughter, Josephine. Outside of the visiting the Seaport, Brian likes to work with his horses and enjoys riding his bike down the local roads and trails.
3 MEET TOM DANIELS Name: Tom Daniels Title: Shipwright - Morgan Department: Shipyard Extension: 5343 SB: How long have you been at Mystic Seaport? TD: I ve been at Mystic Seaport since August SB: What s the best part of your job? TD: I like the range of things we do here. We can be doing anything from carved joinery to scraping the hull. Sometimes there s a lot of problem solving; other times its steady repetitive work. That s pretty common to all boat carpentry. One thing that really stands out here at Mystic Seaport is the quality of the crew. In most workplaces there s this one person that drives everyone crazy but not here. I get to work with a very talented, dedicated, easygoing crew. It s a real privilege. SB: What are you passions/interests outside of the workplace? TD: I like woodworking. My wife and I (former Mystic Seaport employee, Holly David) just bought a house so there is no shortage of projects. She is an artist and we re currently building a giant piece of bacon for her next gallery show. Otherwise, I read a lot, play some guitar, bird watch and contra dance. SB: What is your favorite memory of Mystic Seaport? TD: I love being by the water early in the workday before things get going. It s beautiful here. Still favorite memory During Dog Days, I was by the boat house were the Newfies were demonstrating boat rescue and the squad shot off the cannon on the green. Every single dog started barking that huge deep Newfoundland wooooof together. It was an awesome sound. If you would like to be featured in the next HR Staff Bulletin, please contact Jeanne Gade at ext

CIVIL WAR NAVAL ENCAMPMENT THANK YA LL By all reports the Civil War encampment last weekend was a great success. Our visiting participants and Commission members repeatedly spoke of the good spirit, creativity, and competence of our staff. The naval reenactors were especially thrilled to be here. As one of them said, For us, this (Mystic Seaport) is Gettysburg. Thanks go out to many, with special acknowledgement to key organizers and those who worked extra hours behind the scenes. So, thank ya ll to Alex Alpert, Arleen Andersen, Jenny Doak, Rebecca Bayreuther Donohue, Fred Calabretta, Mary K Bercaw Edwards, Dan Harvison, Sue Heath, Dan McFadden, Shannon McKenzie, Brandon Morgan, and Nancy Seager. Karen Freeman deserves recognition for the Galley s warm support of the reenactors in so many ways. Special thanks also go to Sharon Brouillard, who with good humor and a steady hand kept everyone on course. -Glenn Gordinier WEEKEND DUTY OFFICER/WATCH CAPTAIN/WATERCRAFT SUPERVISOR Saturday, June 8 Sunday, June 9 Duty Officer: Bruce Foulke, radio Duty Officer: Chris Freeman, radio Security: Gary Doerfler, 5310 Security: Gary Doerfler, 5310 Watch Captain: Tom Brillat, radio Shipyard:, Doug Butler, x5341 Watch Captain: Tom Brillat, radio Shipyard:, Doug Butler, x5341
