1 KNYSNA YACHT CLUB (Established 1910) Newsletter October 2017 Commodores Corner Allan Waterston Newsletter February 2018 Have you bought your belt yet, only R150 each and for a good cause, there are a few still available, the proceeds will go towards Pledge Nature Reserve. R150 is a reasonable price and not a lot to pay for a belt, promoting our club while supporting a good cause. Contact Nicky in the office this is a once off offer and the number of belts is limited With only two months left to the end of our financial year, a gentle reminder that subscriptions and other fees are due 1 st April. Invoicing will take place towards the end of February / early March. Your committee is presently in budget mode and the brief is to keep increases around the inflation level. Through the generosity of members the club has recently been donated two sailing dinghies, one a Sonnet and the other a 420. These double handed boats are tremendous additions to our club fleet and provide an opportunity for some serious sailing and training. In order to ensure that these boats are cared for they are to be allocated to an individual sailor to use for the season. The Sonnet has already found a worthy custodian and we are looking for another individual who will take on the 420. If you are interested please contact Nicky so that an appropriate time can be set to meet to discuss the detail. Our Galley is a constantly changing environment and with Ursula having left us at the end of January we welcome Andrew Redfern who takes over responsibility for the Restaurant and Kitchen.

2 In-shore sailing Vice Commodore Andrew Finn The KYC team did really well and finished 2 nd,3 rd 6 th & 9 th at the Redhouse Yacht Club Gypsy Africans race. The Mackinac has been moved to the weekend of 24 th 25 th Feb - with a Build a Burger treat on Sunday am This is the weekend of the Celtic Festival so we will not have an evening function on Saturday KYC Interclub This event is being held on the 10 th & 11 th February. Please come and sail if you are in town we need to get the Interclub trophy to KYC If you are not a sailor come down the club and join in with the festivities - on site music - the club kitchen and bar will be open on Friday as per normal. On Saturday Breakfast from 8h00 11h00 normal A la carte menu as well as a Breakfast Bun for R30.00 Lunch 11h30 15h00 Snack menu from Restaurant which will be: Beef burger & chips R50.00 Chicken burger & chips R45.00 Toasted Sammies Chicken Mayo R35.00 Cheese & Tomato R30.00 Bacon & Egg R45.00 Ham & Cheese R35.00 Restaurant Steak, Egg & chips (200g) sirloin) R85.00 Chicken Schnitzel (200g) R70.00 Fried Fish & chips R70.00 On Saturday evening there will be a braai as well as music. The same snack menu will be available from 9h30 15h00 New 420 donated to the club - due to the generosity of a club member KYC is now the proud owners of a competitive 420. The boat is in excellent condition and will be ideal for a National campaign. Watch this space.

Invite a few friends and neighbours and show off your club. Friday nights Another lucky draw but you have to be present at the club when the draw takes place around 19h00. The draw has reached the R4000 cap and will remain as is until won; don t miss out, be at the club and stand a chance to WIN Functions -Please keep KYC restaurant in mind when planning any kind of celebration, weddings, birthdays or year end functions. Contact Ursula at for information on use of the venue and catering. Membership There are members who have not collected their membership cards and parking stickers from Nicky at the office as yet. Please do so urgently. Country members, when you visit Knysna, please make a point of collecting your cards. Once the requirement for swiping of your membership card when paying for drinks, meals, etc. comes into effect, and you do not have your card, it might be a problem. Parking disks must be clearly displayed on the windscreen of the car, otherwise you might get a sticker attached and this will only annoy you which is not our intention, think of others. We are trying to accommodate all members, please comply with the rules of the club. Please remember to advise Nicky of any of your personal details if any of these have changed. Please call or your new details to Nicky at secretary@knysnayachtclub.com Please note if you have not paid your Subs, you are now a defaulter, and will not be able to access the gate with the new phone system. The plastic key system at the gate has been disabled. Please make sure your Cell number is correct on the system. Speak to Nicky should you have any problems. 5 Tender on floating jetty s Please be advised over the next few weeks we will be inspecting all tenders and removing those not displaying KYC registration numbers and for which we have not received payment. The remaining available space will be allocated to registered tenders and paid for parking and if still available there will be space provided for limited period day time only visitor parking. Trailer park Any of our members who have a trailer/ boat that is parked in the Trailer park behind Tait Marine, please contact Nicky or Rob and inform them, as we will be clearing out all unidentified trailers and boats. Unidentified Mast There is a mast that was dumped on the grass parking without informing any of the staff members. Could that member please remove it, failing to do so we will have no choice but to move it to the trailer park. L26 For Sale KNYSNA CHALLENGER FOR SALE SUBMIT OFFERS As we find that our L26 is not being used sufficiently we are offering this yacht for sale on a tender basis. This would be a great opportunity for a club or an individual to acquire this vessel at a very good price as we will consider all offers. The club has a reserve on the price and will not be bound to accept the lowest offer. The hull and standing rigging, are basically sound, although deck and interior would need a cosmetic uplift. What would make this purchase attractive would be the sails. Besides the main sail, there are No 1, 2, 3 jib sails and 3 spinnakers all in above average t o good condition.
