3 Training and Assessment Strategy Purpse This dcument frms the guide t delivering and assessing the Units f Cmpetency embedded in the Wrkplace Emergency Respnse Warden Curse. The Wrkplace Emergency Respnse Warden Curse is designed t cver the cmpetencies required by persns wrking within a facility t act in accrdance with the emergency prcedures, perate as part f the Emergency Cntrl Organisatin as well as respnding t, and rectifying small wrkplace emergencies. Vcatinal Target This curse is designed fr persns wh at times are required, as part f their duties, t perate as part f the Emergency Cntrl Organisatin in the Rle f a Warden. This curse is delivered and assessed at a vcatinal level f 3. Graduates at this level will apply knwledge and skills t demnstrate autnmy and judgement and t take limited respnsibility in knwn and stable cntexts within established parameters. Curse Duratin The curse is run ver a perid f 5 hurs. Delivery Mde This curse will be delivered ver a perid 5 hurs, cnsisting f bth practical and theretical training. All training will be delivered face t face. Assessment Requirements The assessment requirements are bth frmative and summative in nature and will include practical assessments, thery assessments, ral questining and grup discussins. The assessment will take place a varying times thrughut the curse with a final thery assessment cnducted at the cnclusin f the curse. 4 Fitness Requirements A reasnable level f fitness is required as participants will be required t walk arund the facility and climb / descend fire stairs. Clthing Requirements Cmfrtable clthing with shes suitable fr walking / climbing stairs. Trainer Cmpetencies T be eligible t train and assess the Wrkplace Emergency Respnse Warden Curse, Trainers and Assessrs must meet the fllwing minimum requirements prir t cnducting the curse. Qualificatins Cert IV Training and Assessment (including the LLN Unit f cmpetency) Emergency Respnse cmpetencies equivalent t the level being trained r equivalent experience. Vcatinal Experience At least 2 years experience wrking in Emergency Management. Experience in hazard identificatin and managing risk. Practical experience perating within an emergency respnse team. An Emergency is a hazardus situatin that cannt be cntrlled by persns in the immediate area with immediately available resurces. What is an Emergency Plan? Ask the grup cllectively what is an emergency Plan? (yu may make ntes n the whitebard). An Emergency Plan is a predefined respnse t an emergency incident. E.g. In the event f a fire we will evacuate the building immediately. What is an Emergency Prcedure? Ask the grup cllectively what is an emergency Prcedure? (yu may make ntes n the whitebard). An Emergency Prcedure is a predefined set f actins that are t be fllwed in the event f an emergency incident ccurring. e.g. In the event f a Fire we will evacuate the building. This will be carried ut by the Chief Warden etc. What is a Rescue Plan? Ask the grup cllectively what is a Rescue Plan? (Yu may make ntes n the whitebard). A Rescue Plan is the verall actins t be taken t remve a persn frm harm. E.g. In the event f a persn falling and being suspended by their harness we will dial 000 and then recver the suspended wrker. What is a Rescue Prcedure? Ask the grup cllectively what is a Rescue Prcedure? (Yu may make ntes n the whitebard). A Rescue Prcedure is hw yu will g abut remving a persn frm harm. E.g. In the event f a persn falling frm X and being suspended by their harness yu will take the Gtcha Kit, secure yurself t the structure and using the Gtcha Kit retrieve the suspended wrker. Include the fllwing: ntifying the ECO fllwing directins f the ECO what t d when they are unsure f things when t evacuate where t evacuate t authrity f the ccupant t evacuate the area. 11 3.3 Incident Assessment Prir t taking actin it is essential that each emergency situatin is assessed fr hazards prir t determining an actin. Optin 2: Refer back t the individual s list f emergencies and run thrugh each emergency and discuss the cnsideratins fr each emergency they had identified. 3.4 Emergency Respnse Prcedures ECO Discuss in detail the emergency respnse prcedures fr the ECO in the event f an emergency incident ccurring. The respnsibility f the ECO is the safe remval f persns frm the hazard in the event f an emergency. This will nt always be by evacuatin; it may be by prtecting in place all building ccupants. Review the site emergency prcedures fr further details n the emergency prcedures fr the site. Standard prcedures will have all ECO members reprting t their individual cntrl pints, prepare their area fr evacuatin and await details frm the Chief Warden r ther respnse signal such as an evacuatin alarm. 3.5 Respnding t Specific Emergencies Discuss the varius emergencies and the general respnse prcedures that shuld be fllwed. Highlight hw each emergency is different and evacuatin is nt always the best ptin. 15 Sessin 5 Recvery 5.1 Pst Emergency Cnsideratins Explain the servicing requirements after use fr the emergency equipment used nsite. This may include: Radis, recharging Refilling Fire Extinguishers. Re Rlling Fire Hses. Detail the prcedures fr reccupying the building. Receive ALL CLEAR frm Emergency Services Receive handver frm emergency services. Cnduct an inspectin f the incident area and implement any cntrls fr any existing hazards prir t allwing persns t reenter. Arrange fr the reccupatin in a structured manner. This may be ne grup at a time. Security is maintained Ensure that the site is checked fr security. All drs and fire exits shuld be clsed and secured. 5.2 Incident Reprting Discuss the imprtance and the prcedure fr incident reprting. 5.3 Debriefing Explain the reasns that incidents debrief shuld be cnducted. It allws us t lk at what happened and learn frm what we did. When t debrief As sn as pssible after the incident whilst the incident is still fresh n everyne s mind.
