A lot more snow will come!!!. There s a link on the Indy Ski Club s website that takes you to a common site for ski area snow reports. It s not always up to date, so use the resort link on the results page to get more recent info. THURSDAY THIRST, NOVEMBER 10th We had a great turnout (a couple dozen) at the Beech Grove Thursday Thirst, even though there was some serious snow falling. I guess the snow got us into the mood for the après part of skiing. More trivia stolen from the Ft Wayne Ski club newsletter: The Canyons at Park City offers the only kosher restaurant at a ski resort, Squaw Valley offers the only ski in / ski out Starbucks in North America. Domino s Pizza does more business per year than the entire ski and snowboard industry

Thank you to all. mm goals are to continue to build on the foundation, while adding more value to attract and retain more members. We had awesome attendance at our Holiday party and I hope everyone had as much fun as I did socializing, exchanging gifts, gathering food for Gleaners. I think the presentation from Sun Valley Sports on the latest technology in equipment and clothing was a huge hit a grateful THANK YOU to Sam at Sun Valley Sports on all the gift certificates they gave away! Even though we don t have snow in Indy, I hope everyone is fired up to hit the slopes with your fellow club members on the upcoming trips over the next three months and will have a fun time. Watch for details for our April Meltdown meeting we hope to have another presentation/speaker that will bring value to the gathering. If you haven t already, please consider getting involved with your ski club there are so many ways (small or large) that you can help. Don t hesitate to contact me with questions or ideas of how the club can give you the value you deserve from your membership Woo hoo, let s ski and make 2012 a great year!! THE ABOVE TRIVIA COLLECTIONWAS BLATANTLY SWIPED FROM THE Ft Wayne Ski Club s newsletter.. They sent it to us, so I figured it was fair game. Ed.

6 TRIPS!!! (Let s go skiing!!!! ) Thank goodness it snowed! It finally makes one think that perhaps winter and SKI SEASON are here. The club has six western and a European trip heading out as soon as the calendar turns a leaf. The Taos skiers leave January 7 and will have a great week at the Snakedance Condos with Roger hosting. As always, the Ernie Blake Ski School DEAL OF THE CENTURY is available and hopefully all will participate. This is half day ski school for 5 days at the bargain basement price of $99. Grouped according to ability, the class of six is beneficial to all levels of skiers. Jim Robinson is leading this trip, and we wish all happy skiing! The Vail trip leaves the end of January, ably led by Richard Rader. Because the Indianapolis Ski Club is a White Carpet Club with Vail Resorts, they are hosting an après ski at the Arabelle Tavern for the club members. This trip stays at Vail Spa in Lions Head, and we ll have a club instructor along. THINK SNOW!! Jean Ballinger will leave her dancing in Texas to lead our group in Snowmass/Aspen the last week of February. Again we are staying at the Gant-- great accommodations, good location and the Gantmobile to provide transport if needed. Great skiing at Aspen, Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands, and SNOWMASS are available for the group to enjoy. THINK The Steamboat trip leaves the first week of March and will be led by Dick Surber. Lodging at the Ranch, with great van transportation, this should be a good group. Randy Ridgway and fellow skiers depart for Kitzbuhel, Austria on March 9 and are planning a good time in the Alps and surrounding areas. REALLY THINK SNOW!! Telluride looms for the last of March and is being led by Priscilla Johnson. The Mountain Lodge will be our host and will provide a great ski- in ski -out home for a week. It is conveniently located near the gondola and has van transportation for guests. The last trip of the year is one with families, children, grandchildren and happy skiers. Breckenridge, Colorado always offers great skiing, food, shopping and beautiful vistas. Sarah Payton is leading this group Hopefully we will have some snow before Saturday, January 7 so that our Learn to Ski Day at Perfect North will happen. It's hard to ski in Indiana when it's 50 degrees outside but hopefully Perfect North has made enough snow so this event can happen. Marilyn Rader will be the leader. THINK SNOW!! Racing weekend at Boyne Highlands is being lead by Paul Wood and is February 24, 25, 26. This is an Indiana Ski Council event, and you don t have to race to participate. If you still want to join a trip, please contact the trip leader as soon as possible. There may be wait list opportunities available. Because of airline and hotel booking deadlines, the Club may have established final numbers, so we can only add if there is a cancellation. Often we can add hotel space if you have your own air reservations or drive out, so contact the leaders as to the status. And THINK SNOW!! so we can all have wonderful trips. THANKS!! to all the trip leaders for their efforts this year in planning, booking and leading the trips. 7 View from the Sky (from your Boomer editor) The club isn t going to Big Sky this year, but your editor and the Boss Lady are spending the winter there. We arrived just before Christmas to find a foot of new powder the first morning so in spite of being car-lagged, we skied! Snowfall so far this winter hasn t lived up to last year s totals, but it s early. La Nina produced some major moisture in , and even though the Little Girl hasn t flexed her muscles this season, she s still more dominant than her little brother El Nino so expect more than average snowfall. And in the first 10 days of skiing this season I ve made powder tracks on five of those ISC West days. So it ain t bad. If you are on a club trip to the Rockies, you should have some great snow. I had another paragraph in here but tree skiing was especially sweet today! So I rewrote it. For the first time yesterday (December 31) I saw a long lift line (about a minute) at Big Sky, so we skied at Moonlight Basin next door, where we had a half foot of new stuff to explore almost alone. Then today (New Year s) the crowds were gone from Big Sky and, to my amazement, I found tree run after tree run through deep powder that hadn t been touched at all. I guess most of those visitors were from Texas. So even 36 inches of base can be terrific. And, as 2011 winds down, let s remember that we are skiers and boarders who enjoy a good time, and we enjoy each other. So if the condo isn t perfect, or the restaurant overcooks your steak, or if a goofball cuts you off in the lift line, be cool! Let s make 2012 a great year for the other folks in the club, not just for yourself. Think about helping out, even on a small scale. Lisa is looking for folks to arrange social events such as Thursday Thirst, a ball game, a kayak afternoon Simple to do but so hard to find leaders. In 2012, be the leader you d want the club to have. Hope to see a lot of you folks on club trips this season. Mel P.S.
