1 Community Bulletin #70 JKC Australia LNG Pty Ltd (JKC) Tourism secrets to be revealed in Village laundries Forget Victoria s Secret the Accommodation Village laundries will soon be home to some Territory secrets as Tourism Top End begins to showcase NT attractions and tours at a place everyone visits regularly the laundry. The organisation s General Manager Trevor Cox toured the Village this week to further scope out how JKC and the organisation can partner together to promote local tourism to Village residents. Mr Cox represents more than 550 local tourism operators including accommodation providers, tour operators, attractions and fishing charters. Mr Cox, pictured with Deputy Village Manager Dave Wilson, said the laundry, being a place where everyone visited, was a social hub and an ideal Deputy Accommodation Village Manager, JKC s Dave Wilson, with Trevor Cox, General Manager, Tourism Top End. location to display information on the vast array of tourism opportunities available in the NT. For more information on Tourism Top End, go to the Visitor Information Centre on the corner of Bennett and Smith streets in Darwin city or visit Bird s-eye view: This image, captured by Wayne Zerbe, shows the Blaydin Point site from the air. The MOF can be seen to the left of the photograph, while the early jetty works are visible on the right. The jetty is being built from the land into the harbour and soon you will see the cantilever bridge in the mangrove area installing piles (supports). More marine construction information can be found on the following pages.
2 J e t t y b e g i n s t o a p p e a r BAM Clough is continuing with the construction of the module offloading facility (MOF). The MOF is a temporary structure which will extend from the Blaydin Point site into the Darwin Harbour. It is required to offload from vessels the very large modules which will be assembled to create the LNG liquefaction plant. The MOF will be about 160 m long and 65 m wide and construction will be completed early in The Jetty, also known as the product loading facilities due to its Y-shape, allows access to the onshore gas processing facility and enables gas to be piped out to two separate vessel load out berths, one for LNG carriers (ships) and a second for LPG/Condensate carriers. The Jetty, which is currently under construction with completion due at the end of 2014, is a permanent structure in our harbour. It is being constructed using the purposebuilt travelling cantilever bridge (CLB), designed and built by BAM Clough. Over the coming weeks and months the CLB will gradually move forward over the water allowing for construction of the jetty to continue. M o d u l e o f f l o a d i n g f a c i l i t y s t a r t i n g t o t a k e s h a p e Fourteen cofferdam cells will be joined together to form the perimeter and a sealed surface will be placed on top of the cells to complete the MOF. The photograph on the right, taken about three weeks ago, shows the installation of the first cell. The photograph on the left shows current works, now being carried out on two fronts, distinguished by the two yellow cranes. The third cell is now being installed.
3 Additional marine work taking place later this month With work on the MOF and jetty continuing at Blaydin Point, some additional planned marine activity is scheduled to take place between 27 September and 2 October about four kilometres south of the MOF. Following construction at East Arm Wharf a 500 metre long outfall pipe will be towed to the Blaydin Point site via a piloted workboat. Lights will be attached to the pipe and vessels will be located at each end. Once in its final location, the 125mm pipe will be placed to a depth of about seven metres below the surface of the water for the duration of the construction at Blaydin Point. Divers will be engaged as part of this work and harbour users are reminded to please observe and obey the 250 metre Marine Safety Zone around all construction activities. SAFETY ZONE Please help us to continue to share our waterways safely A 500 metre long pipe similar to this will be towed under pilot from East Arm Wharf to the Blaydin Point site later this month. Please observe the 250m Marine Safety Zone. Please stay 250 metres away from the construction area at Blaydin Point This includes the MOF and the jetty area It is for everyone s safety Always check for harards and safety zones in Notice to Mariners at Be aware of night lighting on channel markers, vessels, obstructions and bouys Know someone l ooking fo r a school-based apprenticeship opportunity?
