Year 5 Surfing This week Year 5 children went surfing at Penzance, Sandy Acres and Gwithian. The year 5 teaching staff also took part in surfing with the children. We were provided with wetsuits, surfboards and rash vests. The surfing teachers from Global Boarders firstly did a safety talk for us children for about 20 to 30 minutes to warn us about hidden rocks, dangerous sea life, currents and how to position ourselves on the boards. Next we got into the sea, which was very cold and caught some waves. We were allowed up to our waist/chest height. Unfortunately most people had been wiped out by the oceans waves. Caitlin from 5V said It was a really fun experience that I have never had before. Mr Voisey said My class did really well. Before we knew it, it was time to make our way out of the water. We had to carry the boards back to the slippery seaweed steps that we Stars of the Week didn t like walking on. When we got back to the minibus we had to take our wetsuits off which was really difficult as the wind was blowing and they were really stuck. This is a day that we will never forget, it was fantastic. Judo Success O s and X s On Saturday 9 th June Riley from 3W attended a judo team event.

Olivia from 5S has worked really hard on her recent noughts and crosses task Are you an explorer or adventurer? She spent a weekend making her model and painting it to perfection.

Well done Riley Fundraising On Friday 22nd June we will be holding a non uniform day were children can dress up as their favourite sports star, this will cost 50p per a child.

There will be a penalty shoot out against members of staff during lunchtime along with a ten pin bowling cricket style competition. All activities will cost 20p a go.

2 Judo Success O s and X s On Saturday 9 th June Riley from 3W attended a judo team event. He weighed in at 26kg so was fighting in the under 30 kg category, he managed to win a bronze. Also on Sunday 10 th he attended his grading and earned another green tab for his belt. The money raised will go towards supporting a former pupil Joshua Pengelly who has been selected to represent the Cornwall Cricket team and will be travelling to South Africa in February 2019 Josh in now currently studying at Redruth School, in Year 7, and still manages to continue to support Trewirgie by giving up his free time helping coach the tag and touch rugby teams. Joshua would be extremely grateful for any support, so if you think you can score some goals against the teachers come along and join in the fun. 2

Advert Dear Schools, We are very excited to announce a new development within the Cornwall County Choirs for pupils in the Redruth area.

In September 2018, we will be launching a new local group in Redruth.
