If your child does not pass the swim test, they can take lessons and retest again during the season. The TSA rules provide in article 304 (in part) that, To be a swim team member, a person must be eligible for full club privileges. Such eligibility shall be based on the payment of club dues by the person or his/her family, and continues that A person may swim for only one club during a season. Also, A club may not pay or forgive any part of the dues for a person or his/her family with the intent of enlisting that person as a swimmer or as a combined swimmer/coach or as a swimmer/club staff member. All swimmers are encouraged to wear swim caps at practice. Swimmers cannot wear caps from other swim teams (year round teams, schools, etc.) during practice. Please wear the University Club cap or a cap that is not from another team. When attending a practice at the University Club, swimmers are there because they swim for the University Club not some other team. All swimmers are required to wear a University Club red swim cap in the meets. This again provides a uniform appearance, is the symbol of our team and promotes team unity. Every swimmer will be given one latex swim cap at no charge. This cap can be switched out for a silicone cap at an additional cost. Replacement caps can be purchased throughout the season. Parents may speak with coaches 10 minutes prior to beginning of practice, and 10 minutes after practice concludes. No parents are to communicate with the coaches while they are coaching on deck. Sign your swimmers up for swim meets as soon as possible. All parents must volunteer for 4 swim meets. You can sign-up to volunteer on the swim team website. 8 We really ended May in a spectacular fashion! Our member events for Memorial Day Weekend were very wellattended; attendance at the pool on Memorial Day eclipsed 1000 persons including 101 guests, which to our knowledge is a record. And we appreciate your patience as we used all available seating and added 30 dining chairs under the lap pool shade structure to provide as much seating as possible. We bought 25 additional chairs prior to the start of the summer and have since ordered 30 more. These last ones ordered are the popular sand chairs. In addition, our Memorial Day Adult s Doubles Tennis Social was played with all courts full for the two separate sessions held. It s important for us to emphasize the efforts that not only your staff but also that of the regulatory agencies with oversight of our pools have expended to ensure a safe pool experience this pool season and in future seasons as well. Many Wake County pools are not yet open and expect to be delayed another 4 to 6 weeks before being permitted to open. The electrical shock potentials as addressed and as outlined in blasts over the past few weeks far outweigh any undue expediency to open the pools. The last pool venue we are addressing is the slide; we have a tentative inspection scheduled for Friday by the NC Department of Labor and are planning to have it operational this coming weekend. We have also elevated our schedule for super chlorination of our pools this summer to control the cryptosporidium parasite. Cryptosporidium has an incubation period as long as 7 days before the symptoms of Cryptosporidiosis appear, which include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps, and which may typically last for 10 to 14 days. We will super- or hyper-chlorinate all 3 pools every Saturday night. This is an accepted practice for control of this parasite. As a parent, we also request that you follow the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines to further mitigate the risk: If you or your child is diagnosed with Cryptosporidiosis, do not swim for at least 2 weeks after the diarrhea stops. Do not swallow pool water. Take young children on bathroom breaks prior to coming to the pool and at least every 60 minutes thereafter, and check their diapers every minutes. Shower before entering the pools. Wear rubber pants over swim diapers. Protect others by not swimming if ill with diarrhea. Note: alcohol-based hand sanitizers do not effectively kill Cryptosporidium. The beltline widening project is about 2 years away from actual construction. Your Board of Directors has been involved as a stakeholder for several years and continues to be so presently. We have retained counsel who has met with and advised us as we met with DOT and the engineering firm who to date has been awarded an initial contract from DOT for preliminary design. The markings on the golf course, parking lot, and tennis courts are areas where soil sampling will be performed but are not necessarily lines where construction will occur. We will be impacted but your board and management is developing plans to ensure that our club, as of now, will continue to offer the same amenities as we have for the past 58 years of the club s existence as well as the remaining 42 years of our 100-year lease. We have 5 member social events planned for June. These include the Second Chance Prom on 6.2, and two kid s events including Messy Art Day on 6.10 and Tie Dye Tuesday on We will also have our traditional Father s Day Brunch on 6.18 and Family Fun Night on Albert Weaver III 7
