A technical crash-course including automatic pool cover terminology to help better communicate with the customer, how automatic pool covers work and preinstallation and service tips. A general overview of auto cover benefits and potential savings for automatic pool cover owners and how to determine whether to self-install or subcontract auto cover installation. Attendees will learn pre-installation tips and best practices for troubleshooting common automatic cover issues to help save time on the job site and prevent upset customers, automatic cover terminology and how to determine when professional automatic cover services may be needed. Most recently, he has rewritten the basic and advanced chemistry courses. He has been a frequent conference presenter throughout the industry on both chemical and business/marketing topics. Circumstances that lead to an algae bloom and the root sources of algae - why do we get algae in pools? Also, the various ways algaecides work and how best to create an environment in the pool where algae cannot grow. Dustin joined Hayward Pool Products Canada in 2006 as a Technical Specialist and moved into a sales role in He had been working as a District Sales Manager in the Ontario market since January of 2010 and is currently Hayward s Regional Sales Manager. The commercial division of Sunshine has worked on projects in many Canadian Provinces and all Territories. He graduated with Honours from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology with diplomas in Construction Engineering and Business Management. Rodney holds Interprovincial tickets in Plumbing and Pipefitting, and a Provincial ticket in Gasfitting. He is a former president of the Pool and Hot Tub Council of Canada. The course is designed to provide individuals with the basic knowledge, techniques, and skills of pool and spa operations. The CPO certification program is widely accepted by health departments throughout North America. Upon registering for the course students will receive the Pool & Spa Operator Handbook, which is updated to include the most current information available, including the addition of metric calculations. Copies of the Handbook are available in both English and French. Our instructors have received comprehensive training and certification to teach the CPO certification program. The training these instructors provide has helped protect millions of swimmers by reducing hazards at aquatic facilities. The CPO certification program is being offered as a two-day class that will cover hours of information from the NSPF Pool & Spa Operator Handbook and local codes taught by an NSPF Instructor. This dynamic setting offers direct interaction with an instructor and fellow students. Among the subjects to be addressed include Water Balance, Pool Water Contamination, Disinfection, Filtration, and Water Circulation. Students will pass an open book exam to earn CPO certification. Note: We encourage students to register well in advance so that the Pool & Spa Operator Handbook can be sent directly to their homes prior to the conference. This will allow students to prepare in advance of the classroom. Lunch is included (Monday & Tuesday) Certified Maintenance Specialist Course (2½ Days) 8:30-16:30 Monday, December 3, :30-16:30 Tuesday, December 4, :30-11:30 Wednesday, December 5, 2018 Room: 204 Level: Intermediate This 2-day course takes you through the APSP Service Tech Manual and gives you what you need to know to conform to industry standards. After completing this course the student will have gained a strong understanding of pool circulation and filtration, pool maintenance, and water quality; learned about other important topics such as electrical systems, pool structures and finishes, heaters and controls, and earn a name for yourself in the pool industry as a maintenance person in the know! Registrants for the course receive a copy of the APSP Service Tech Manual and the CMS Workbook. Target Audience: The CMS course is for those new to the pool and spa industry or are working a pool maintenance route. Exam Information: To become certified as a CMS Certified Maintenance Specialist, you must complete the CMS course and take the CMS Exam which will take place on Wednesday December 5, The CMS exam is 1.5 hours long, open book exam with 75 multiple choice questions. You must score 75% or better to pass (answering at least 56 questions correctly). Head Instructor: CRAIG SEARS, Sears Pool Management Consultants, Atlanta, GA Craig Sears is President and Owner of Sears Pool Management Consultants, a 21-year old firm specializing in the operation and management of commercial swimming pool facilities in the Metro Atlanta area. Craig received a degree in Biology from Washington and Lee University and an MBA in Management from Georgia State University. With over 25 years experience in the aquatics industry, Craig has been a lifeguard, a swim coach, swim lesson instructor, pool manager, sales manager, and even a bartender before founding Sears Pool Management in Craig served as President of the GA Chapter of the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals from , and continues to serve on the state Board of Directors. In March 2012, Craig founded the non-profit Greater Atlanta Water Safety Alliance, a chapter of the National Drowning Prevention Alliance. Craig has achieved various aquatic designations and certifications including an APSP Certified Service Professional, APSP Certified Building Professional, NSPF Certified Pool Operator, American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, NSPF Instructor, and an APSP course instructor. When 99% of pools used incandescent lighting it was easy to use watts per square foot as a common metric for lighting design. However, LED technology has made that method obsolete and the new technologies have solved old problems like power consumption and large size but introduced new concerns such as colour temperature and luminous intensity. This program will give you the tools to design better submerged lighting with a new set of design parameters and product specifications. Learning Objectives: Explain luminous intensity, colour temperature, lens angles and other physical parameters of submerged lighting. Review usage of watts, lumens, Lux, candelas, foot-candles, and other metrics to size and quantify the number of lights. Review codes for both illumination and electrical safety. Illustrate practical examples for submerged lighting design. This course is a core course for the PHTCC Certification Program Pool Installation 101 Short Course 13:00-16:30 Monday, December 3, 2018 Room: 221 & 222 Level: Novice (A PHTCC Short Course) Pool Installation 101 is an introductory course covering the basics of inground pool installation. Students will learn the fundamentals of swimming pool construction, from the preparation of the contract to the completion of the project. This course is intended for new construction staff, but will also be beneficial to other personnel within the company such as retail and service personnel. The knowledge gained from the Pool Installation 101 course will raise the overall level of expertise within your operation resulting in improved customer service. The course material has been developed with input from builders and manufacturers throughout the industry and will delve into the intricacies of various inground pool construction techniques. The combined curricula of these two pool installation courses will provide you with the tools necessary to develop an in-house train the trainer program.
