Free Admission! *Please note High School Hang Out will not be held on March 26th. Tues 3/22 The Senior Center Craft Club hosts their monthly workshop at 10am. This month s project is Fabric Flowers. Learn how to make these fun flowers using fabric squares. Free! Tuesdays Head to The Union for Indoor Pickelball at 5:30pm. Pickelball is a fun, fast moving game, combining tennis, badminton and ping pong. All adults are welcome. 5 Community News Page 5 KARAOKE NIGHT AT FRIENDSHIP PARTY Dawn of Day Waupun Dog Park 903 N. Madison St. Bring your dogs to run and play! The dog park is open from sunrise to sunset, 7 days a week, year round. Please use the driveway entrance to the Waupun Area Animal Shelter. Information guides containing park rules are available at City Hall or at Share Community News with your friends! Sign up at Click on Sign Me Up on the lower left side. The Braak-ee-oke DJ's, from Randolph, played music for the Friendship Karaoke party at the Wesley Center on Saturday evening, March 5th. The fun evening included hot dogs, ice cream and popcorn. From left is Ann Hoekstra, host of the Friendship group, DJ's Jeff Braaksma and Kyle Heuver with his daughter Joeli Heuver standing behind. Friendship is a group of individuals with cognitive impairments which holds bible studies on the third Monday of each month September through May from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, 410 S. West Street in Waupun. COMMUNITY TABLE The Waupun Community Table welcomed their newest sponsor on Friday, March 11, as members of the Waupun Police and Fire Departments came together and served a delicious hot meal at noon to people in the community. Standing at the front entrance are, from left, Assistant Fire Chief Wally Beekman, Police Administrative Superintendant Carla Wojahn, Waupun Police Chief Dale Heeringa, 11-year-old Kaylin DeMaa, 6-year-old Brianna DeMaa, Waupun Fire Chief B. J. DeMaa, and Police Deputy Chief Scott Louden. Bentley-Hull VFW Post 6709 became a sponsor on February 19th by preparing and serving an Italian style lunch to approximately 74 guests at the Waupun Community Table. The Historical Society shared info on the 27 team check it out after the newsletter! CWC Corner Check out the Booster Shout Out s following the newsletter for exciting achievements in Warrior Athletics! Spring Musical The elementary students of CWC would like to invite you to their Spring Musical. They will be performing "God's Top 10." In this musical we explore the ten commandments. Please join us in Crusader Centre on Friday, March 18. Performances are at 9 am and 6:30 pm. The 3K - 5th grades look forward to seeing you there! Mom s & More Night Out The 2nd Annual Moms' & More Night Out will be held on Tuesday, March 22nd from 6-8pm. This open house will offer many local vendors with displays and door prizes. 9 WAUPUN FAMILY AQUATIC CENTER Summer 2016 June 4 - August 28 September 3-5 LOCATED IN FOND DU LAC COUNTY PARK The Waupun Family Aquatic Center features zero depth entry, two water slides, a kiddie slide, water spouts and fountains; a lap pool area, two diving boards, a bathhouse with private changing and showering areas; tables, lounges, large shade umbrellas and concession stand with snacks and refreshments; as well as a separate shelter area that can be rented for private use. 11 WAUPUN 2016 Swim Lessons The YMCA swim lessons program is based on swimming skills that will allow participants to enjoy aquatic activities throughout their lives. These include personal safety, survival and rescue skills, stroke development, water sports and games. Below, we have listed each level. We will be testing all of the students on their first day of each session to determine appropriate class placement. Please indicate the level that most appropriately fits your child s skill level. All swim lessons will be held at the Waupun Family Aquatic Center. Lessons may be cancelled in the event that the air temperature drops below 65 degrees, the water temperature drops below 72 degrees, or if it is lightening or thundering. We reserve the right to combine or cancel classes. All swim classes may be combined or cancelled after the first day of class if a minimum enrollment of 4 children is not met. Each class time holds a maximum number of participants. We will be accepting limited registrations for each time frame to try to stay within YMCA guidelines of 1 instructor-to-8 students maximum. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Register early! PRESCHOOL LEVELS Perch (Pr) Ages 2-3 Children start moving independently through the water without a parent, as well as learn how to adjust to a class situation. Pike (Pk) Ages 3-5 This level helps children develop safe pool behavior, adjust to the water and develop independent movement in the water. It is designed for new swimmers, teaching basic paddle stroke and kicking skills, pool safety, proper use of instructional flotation devices and comfort holding their face in the water while blowing bubbles and swimming. Eel (El) Ages 3-5 This advanced beginner level that reinforces Pike skills, for children who are comfortable in the water. Children are taught to kick, float and perform basic paddle strokes. Children can swim 10 yards with the flotation device and 5 feet without by the end of this level. Ray (Ry) Ages 3-5 At this level children review previous skills, learn more personal safety and rescue skills, build endurance by swimming on their front and back and learn to tread water. Children can swim across the pool on their front and back without assistance by the end of this level. Starfish (Sf) Ages 3-5 Children at this level review previously learned skills and refine their strokes, as well as their personal safety, rescue and floating skills. Children can swim one length of the pool on both front and back. YOUTH LEVELS Polliwog (Pl) Ages 6+ This is the beginner level for school age children. It gets children acquainted with the pool, the use of flotation devices, floating and basic swim strokes. By the end of this level they will know front, side and back stroke and will swim one length of the pool without assistance. Guppy (Gp) Ages 6+ Children continue to practice and build upon basic skills, now performing skills without a flotation device. They are introduced to lead-up strokes to the front crawl and back crawl. Minnow (Mn) Ages 6+ This is the initial intermediate level. Children further refine the lead-up strokes they have learned as their strokes become more like those normally used in swimming. They will continue to learn personal safety skills. Fish (F) Ages 6+ At this point, children work to perform the crawl stroke, elementary backstroke, back crawl and breaststroke with turns. They will continue to learn additional swimming movements and personal safety. Flying Fish (Ff) Ages 6+ At this advanced level, children work to perform the sidestroke and butterfly, refining previously learned strokes and increasing endurance. Shark (Shk) Ages 6+ The children at this level continue to improve their strokes with starts and turns and are introduced to the inverted breaststroke, the trudgeon crawl and the over arm sidestroke. Opportunities are provided for the work on synchronized swimming, rescue skills and competitive swimming. Porpoise (Porp) Ages 6+ At this final level children are exposed to a wide range of aquatic experiences. In class these advanced swimmers learn new strokes and rescue skills as well as develop leadership skills.
