6 Page 6 of 6 Beach Services Applications continue to come in for Concession Workers. We hope to have all of our employees in place by the end of March. New hiring policies such as in-house drug screenings and employees taking responsibility for their own physicals have greatly streamlined our hiring process and should save us $15-$20,000. Items such as vehicles and communication devices are being repaired or replaced for the 2011 season. Bids have been received for Italian Ice. New Lifeguard umbrellas will be in place this season which have superior visibility to allow patrons to better identify Lifeguard locations. Lifeguard Stands are being built which address the visibilityversus-tent-height issue. These stands will afford our Lifeguards a higher vantage point for surveillance as well as further improving visibility for Lifeguard umbrellas and surf condition flags. Sponsors are being identified to supply materials for the stands and Rob Kayton has organized volunteers to assemble the stands. Planning continues for North Myrtle Beach to host the 2011 USLA Regional Lifeguard Championship on July 13 and 14. Beach Services is working in conjunction with the Grand Strand Coastal Alliance to unify beach ordinances for all Grand Strand beaches. Hotels and management companies will be receiving our new Beach Services rate cards which detail our pricing as well as the City s beach ordinances. A new credit card company will be in place this season which will allow workers to have wireless card swipers on the beach to modernize our operation.
