Avista Resort was selected as the recipient of the Community Appearance Award for June. Presentation of the award is scheduled for June 3 at 10 am. Committee Reports The Yaupon Garden Club Ecotots met for the last time this school year on May 10 th. The Driftwood Garden Club KAB Kids are meeting May 14th for their end of year celebration. The Sea Oats Garden Club Eco Kids will meet on May 15 th. All clubs report a successful year. Unfinished Business An estimated 40 high school students worked with KNMBB at Mayfest on May 11th to pick up litter and collect recyclables. Two pick-up truck beds were filled with recyclable materials, and the streets were kept free of litter during the festival. Dee gave out doggy bags to festival goers and enjoyed meeting other dogs. KNMBB members manned 7 golf carts during Monday after the Masters to haul recyclable material and trash during and after the event. The Diva Run was a huge success. Suggestions for next year are to have volunteers picking up trash at each water stop and the finish line and to have trash cans at the finish line area. New Business The Litter Index will be June 11 th in lieu of the regularly scheduled meeting. Participants will meet at the Possum Trot center at 8:30 am for a brief training film and leave from there for the litter count. From 12 to 16 volunteers are needed. The Lifeguard/KNMBB Cookout will be Friday, May 31 st from 5:30-8:00 pm, at McLean Park. The cookout is open to KNMBB-sponsored youth groups, beach access volunteers, all KNMBB members, and lifeguards. Volunteers are asked to be at the park at 3:30 for set-up and preparation.
