The classes are conducted by artist Pat Spano, a former Volusia County elementary school teacher who brings her enjoyment and understanding of children to her classes. Pat guides the children to express their creative nature through a variety of colorful mediums. The theme for this first week was Memories are to Keep in which the campers created a special keepsake box using acrylics and collage. Next week, June 16-20, the theme for art camp will be Wonders of Watercolor. These fun classes bring out the creativity these young artists possess and they enjoy learning the various mediums of art. 2 P A G E 2 Center Stage Dance and Performing Arts Center Stage Dance and Performing Arts, a dance and performing arts school based in New Smyrna Beach, held their annual recital at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center on Sunday, June 8th. The school owner and director, Miss Nadine Soldivieri, is an experienced dance educator, who teaches classes in classical and modern dance, acrobatics and tumbling, and a program for pre-school age children. The performance included the students from each of these programs. The recital was enjoyed by all the family members and friends in the audience. Dance and Acting Classes Ms. Debby MacDonald is conducting a week-long summer camp for dance and acting at the Nova Community Center during the weeks of June 9-13 and June Camp will meet Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. This week, eight campers have joined the camp. They performed warm up exercises and learned short routines to introduce them to acting and dancing. The will take part in a short ending performance for the parents on Friday. 3 P A G E 3 Gymnastics Center Works with Pop Warner Cheer Occasionally, Pop Warner will rent the facility and take advantage of the coaches expertise to give the girls some extra practice, knowledge and safety tips to use when they are on the field cheering for their team. The girls appreciated the extra practice time and the coaches spending time with them to enhance their skills. Last Saturday, the coaches at the Ormond Beach Gymnastics Center worked with the girls from Ormond Beach Pop Warner Cheer on their tumbling skills. They practiced cartwheels, back handsprings, and roundups. Walking with the Manager This morning, City Manager Joyce Shanahan held her Walking with the Manager. The group met at The Casements, former winter home of John D. Rockefeller, Sr. After a brief meet and greet, the walkers set off on their two mile walk. Various topics of interest were discussed by the group, and after their walk, they met back at The Casements for refreshingly cool water that was provided for them. The next Walking with the Manager is scheduled for July and the guest walker scheduled is Joanne Naumann, Neighborhood Division Manager. Florida Licensing on Wheels The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Florida Licensing On Wheels (FLOW) mobile unit will be at City Hall on Tuesday, June 17th, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.

4 P A G E 4 Parks Maintenance This week, the Leisure Services Parks staff worked on several projects including pressure washing the picnic benches at Sanchez Park and the boat ramps at Cassen Park, installing removable bollards at the Melrose Lift Station, and repainting a sign at Bailey Riverbridge Garden that had been vandalized. Graffiti was removed from a picnic table at Riviera Park and from the men s room at Cassen Park, and the staff sprayed for spiders at the Magic Forest Park. In addition, staff made careful safety inspections of equipment and checked all facilities for reservations and required maintenance. Florida Licensing on Wheels The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Florida Licensing On Wheels (FLOW) mobile unit will be at City Hall on Tuesday, June 17th, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. FLOW is a standalone mobile office with technology to provide most motorists needs. It provides drivers license/id card change of address, renewals, replacements, and renewals and replacements of vehicle registration and disabled parking permits, as well as other needs. The only thing FLOW does not provide is for the drivers license road test. FLOW brings services to the local communities offering a convenience to citizens while saving them time and gas. Before visiting, please go to to learn about licensing and ID requirements and make sure you have everything you need when you visit FLOW so you don t have to make a second trip. 5 P A G E 5 Community Garden Meeting The next Community Garden meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 19 th, at 6:00 p.m., in the conference room at the Performing Arts Center located at 399 North US Highway 1. The meeting will focus on discussing committee rules/guidelines, future goals to be accomplished, individual committee logistics, and reviewing research done by each individual committee. For additional information, please contact the Leisure Services Department at Road Closure - John Anderson Drive From Neptune Ave. to Amsden Rd. The existing John Anderson Drive road closure will be extended south from Riverwood Drive to Neptune Avenue starting Monday, June 16 th, and will be in effect until June 30 th. This extension is to allow the contractor to close the intersection of John Anderson Drive at Riverwood Drive to perform necessary drainage improvements. Once completed, the intersection will be opened and the previous road closure issued (Riverwood Drive to Amsden Road) will resume. Please use designated detours.
