Sixty-eight gorgeous black and white entries adorned the walls of The Casements for this year s show. Ribbon winners were announced during the evening s opening reception. Siobhan Daly, Cultural Center Coordinator, also presented The Casements Award to the staff s favorite photograph: Whale Watching Boats Iceland by Bill Sweeters. Each of the stunning images currently hang in Mr. Rockefeller s former dining room for viewing. All photographs are black and white, and each tells a beautifully unique story of its own. The Ebony & Ivory Exhibit will remain on display at The Casements until March 27. Gallery viewing hours will operate 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. The Casements Camera Club invites all photographers, beginners and professional alike, to join their organization. The club meets the fourth Thursday each month at The Casements. 2 PAGE 2 The Wicked Wiz Kinetic Expressions Dance Academy (KEDA) presented The Wicked Wiz at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center on Saturday, March 3. Under the direction of Miss Crystal Draper, KEDA provides student instruction in contemporary and classical styles of dance for children in all age ranges from pre-school through high school. The show contained original choreography to musical numbers from the popular Broadway shows Wicked, The Wiz, and The Wizard of Oz. The audience of parents, family members, and the general public enjoyed a very entertaining performance. However, the handicap access to the beach in the center of the park remains closed at this time. Ormond Beach Follies The award winning Ormond Beach Follies is the longest continuously running annual community theatre production in the Ormond Beach - Daytona Beach area. Traditionally, the Follies is a variety show featuring popular songs, show stopping dances, hilarious skits, and witty send-ups. This year's production, "Bars, Booze, and Babes," takes the audience out for a night on the town and is set in the area's best known nightspots. The cast brings to life perennial favorites like "One For My Baby," "Girls Just Want To Have Fun," "Crying," and everybody's favorite "The Pina Colada Song." Upbeat dance numbers in the show include "Ladies Night," "Celebration," "Jailhouse Rock," and a very special trip down memory lane to a Las Vegas club in a song and dance number too naughty to name. Naughty but nice! The Ormond Beach Follies shows will be performed at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts, 399 North US 1, on Friday, March 23, and Saturday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, March 25, at 2:30 p.m. Reserved tickets for the show are $15 and are available online at the City of Ormond Beach website and at the Performing Arts Center Box Office located at 399 N. US Hwy 1. The Box Office is open Tuesday through Friday from Noon until 5:00 p.m., and two hours prior to every show. Tickets can also be ordered over the telephone by calling the Box Office at Visa and MasterCard are accepted.

4 PAGE 4 Taste of Ormond On Sunday, March 4, food lovers gathered at Rockefeller Gardens to sample delicious dishes from some of Ormond Beach s finest restaurants during MainStreet s 5th Annual Taste of Ormond Event. Over a dozen local restaurants participated, including: Rose Villa, 31 Supper Club, Wild Rabbit Bistro, Cakery Creations, and many more. S.R. Perrott also provided a wine and craft beer bar, as well as wine for each table. Guests sat under white tents while sampling food, listening to live music, and watching the sunset on the gorgeous Florida evening. Tickets included unlimited access to all food and drink options during the three hour event. Raffle prizes were also given out to lucky winners. A fun time was had by all! Florida Black Bears On Saturday, March 3, Janelle Musser, biologist with the FWC Black Bear Management Program presented a great program to 20 participants on the biology and behavior of the Florida Black Bear. FWC estimates the Florida Black Bear population to be 4,000 with the highest number found here in central Florida. Black bears are found in many states, but those in Florida have a unique genetic makeup and thus are a species unto themselves. Black bears mate in June and July and their cubs are born in the fall. Fall is also the time when they are eating a lot more to prepare for hibernation when their metabolism slows down. During October and November, Janelle said black bears eat an astounding 20,000 calories a day! She also explained bears have a very strong sense of smell and can locate food from a mile away. So securing trash and not leaving pet food dishes outside are very important to reducing unwanted bear-human interactions. According to Janelle, black bears typically do not want to be around humans and will move away if confronted with loud noises. If you come upon a bear unexpectedly, she advised to back away slowly while talking to the bear. You should not run or play dead, both of which could make the bear feel like he/she should attack. At the conclusion of the program, Janelle gave out bear whistles for everyone and even had us practice a go away bear shout. Thank you Janelle for an excellent program!
