On Wednesday, January 11, Ormond Beach 2 Go! was held at Bear Creek s Celebration Clubhouse #2. OB2Go! is when the City goes on the road to bring services to residents in their community. From 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. staff from Administration, Building, Engineering, Fire, IT, Leisure Services, Neighborhood Improvement, Planning, Police and Public Works were present to answer questions, and provide information. Residents were able to get a recycling bin, have their blood pressure checked, and register for various classes and events, and much more. We appreciate the Bear Creek community having us visit and thank the approximately 100 residents who stopped by! 3 PAGE 3 Marsh Restoration Police Department Attends Human Trafficking Awareness Walk On Wednesday January 11, 2017, at 5:00 p.m. Evelyn Rebostini and Jo Ann Owen, members of the Ormond Beach Police Department, participated in an awareness walk reference to Human Trafficking. The awareness walk, held at the Palm Coast Town Center was hosted by the Freedom7 Human Trafficking Task Force in conjunction with Human Trafficking Awareness Day. The Light the Way, Walk With Me walk helps bring awareness to this important issue and to reach the goal of stopping human trafficking. On Wednesday, January 11, Mayor Partington attended the ribbon cutting for the marsh restoration at North Peninsula State Park to recognize and thank the organizations that were involved in this important initiative. The restoration project began in 2010 and has recreated more than 100 acres of salt marsh. The goal was to take land along North Peninsula State Park that was severely impacted by dredge activities associated with the construction of the Intracoastal Waterway and restore it to a healthy, productive salt marsh and tidal creek habitat. Historically, much of the area now known as the Intracoastal Waterway was tidal salt marsh. The project has also enhanced tidal connections with existing estuaries and salt marshes. This highly productive habitat is home to the majority of Florida commercial and recreational fish in their early stages of life. In addition to fish, a wide diversity of life thrives in these areas including many plants, crabs, shrimp, oysters, smaller organisms and birds. These restoration sites provide increased recreational opportunities, while improving water quality, protecting the shoreline from storm surge and flooding. The creation of this habitat also removes and eradicates harmful non-native plants such as Brazilian pepper. Partners on this project include the St. Johns River Water Management District, Department of Environmental Protection, Florida Park Service, State of Florida Department of Transportation, National Association of Counties, Recovery.Gov, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, Floridan Resource Conservation and Development Council, Inc.

4 PAGE 4 The Rat Pack Together Again The Rat Pack, Together Again, a tribute to the trio of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr., was performed at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center on Sunday, January 8th. The show starred Tony Sands as Frank Sinatra, Johnny Petillo as Dean Martin, and Geno Monroe as Sammy Davis, Jr. The Rat Pack was a legendary group with tremendous talent, sensational music and the magical chemistry of their personalities which captivated audiences. The Rat Pack, Together Again was enjoyed by an audience at the Performing Arts Center for the fourth straight year. Neil Diamond Tribute Tribute artist Jack Berrios performed a tribute to iconic American singer-songwriter Neil Diamond at the Performing Arts Center on Saturday, January 7th. The show featured many of Neil Diamond s hits including chart topping number one songs Cherry, Cherry, Sweet Caroline and America. Jack Berrios, a long-time Neil Diamond tribute performer, has appeared on the Tonight Show starring Jay Leno. With his group and back-up singers, Jack Berrios performed many Neil Diamond fan favorites which were greeted by cheers and applause from the audience. Decades Rewind Decades Rewind performed in concert at the Performing Arts Center on Friday, January 6th. The show is a fast paced musical revue of the music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. The live band and a troupe of rotating lead singers move through a variety of hit songs from various genres of music including rock and roll, pop, and Motown. The band and singers gave the audience a high energy performance with visuals on multiple projection screens and lighting to go along with it. It was a fun night of musical entertainment for everyone in the audience.

5 PAGE 5 Walk with the Manager Last Friday, City Manager Joyce Shanahan held her first Walk with the Manager for At 8:00 a.m., City Manager Shanahan greeted the walkers at The Casements, 25 Riverside Drive. After introductions, the group walked approximately two miles, chatting about various topics of interest. The walk ended at The Casements where the group was provided with refreshing, cool water. In collaboration with Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens, Ormond Beach Historical Society, and Ormond Beach Arts District, the event promotes local artists.

During the event, The Casements will host a free gallery exhibit featuring award-winning watercolorist Joe Costanzo.

Joe Costanzo s exhibit, From Florida to Europe Watercolors, draws inspiration from his travels at home and abroad.

6 PAGE 6 The Casements Shines During Starry Starry Night With the holidays over and a new year upon us, The Casements promises to keep its eyes on the stars in Therefore, the cultural center is proud to participate in the 28th annual Starry, Starry Night event on January 13th. In collaboration with Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens, Ormond Beach Historical Society, and Ormond Beach Arts District, the event promotes local artists. During the evening, free festivities will be available on the entire block from The Casements to Ormond Memorial Art Museum. During the event, The Casements will host a free gallery exhibit featuring award-winning watercolorist Joe Costanzo. As a member of the Ormond Beach Art Guild, Art League of Daytona Beach, and the Florida Watercolor Society, Joe has showcased his works in numerous art shows. Joe Costanzo s exhibit, From Florida to Europe Watercolors, draws inspiration from his travels at home and abroad. With paintings depicting Florida s raw beauty, the West Coast s rugged landscape, and Europe s idyllic countryside, Joe s forte lies in nature scenes. On Friday night, The Casements will remain open to the public from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Staff will provide complimentary light refreshments; guests can enjoy hot chocolate as they peruse artwork in the gallery. Opus Five Woodwind Quintet will provide musical entertainment inside The Casements; outside on the North Lawn, artisans will sell various crafts and artworks at affordable prices. A free shuttle service will be available between The Casements and Ormond Beach Art Museum. For more information, call or PARKS As usual, Citywide safety inspections were performed of all parks and equipment and weekly inspections were done of parks facilities for reservations. All park reservations were posted at various facilities. The Leisure Services Parks staff worked to prepare for the new Community Garden located in Central Park I on Fleming Avenue scheduled to open February 4th. They installed weed block and built 16 4 x12 garden boxes. Last Thursday, staff removed the Christmas trees from the Halifax River.

7 PAGE 7 Arbor Day On Friday, January 20, at 10:00 a.m., at Nova Community Park, located at 440 North Nova Road, a Live Oak tree, donated by Yellowstone Landscape, will be planted in celebration of Arbor Day. Arbor Day is an annual observance which celebrates the important role of trees in our lives and encourages tree planting and care. The first Arbor Day was in 1872 in Nebraska City, Nebraska, where Julius Sterling Morton, a journalist who loved nature, wrote and spoke about environmental awareness and encouraged everyone to set specific dates to plant trees. In 1872, the Nebraska Board of Agriculture accepted a resolution by Mr. Morton to set aside one day to plant trees. National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday of April; however, in the United States, Arbor Day is celebrated on a date appropriate for tree planting in their region. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Sonja Johnson, Community Events Coordinator, at , by January 16. Pleases note, RSVPs are not required, but are greatly appreciated so that we can plan accordingly. Adult Coed Softball League The City of Ormond Beach Leisure Services Department is offering its annual Adult Coed Softball League. The season will run from March 13 th to approximately May 18 th. Participants must be 18 years of age. The league will be divided up into two or three divisions based on the number of teams and the diverse levels of play. The team sponsorship fee is $ Each team will play a minimum of 14 games. Games are played Monday through Thursday at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex, 700 Hull Road, off of North US 1. Game softballs and team awards will be provided. League fees need to be in by Monday, March 6 th, to assure your team has a spot in the league. On January 27, 28, and 29, the City of Ormond Beach proudly presents the 28 th Native American Festival in Rockefeller Gardens, located 26 Riverside Drive, right across from The Casements, located at 25 Riverside Drive. Starting on Friday, January 27, and continuing on Saturday, January 28, and Sunday, January 29, guests can enjoy Native American demonstrations in the dance arena, food court, Native American Village, and craft market. The weekend s highlights include colorfully dressed dancers, live music, encampment shows, storytelling, and wildlife exhibits. Trading booths will sell handcrafted goods, foods, and specialty items. The food court will serve authentic Native American cuisine, all-american barbeque, and snacks. On Saturday and Sunday, alligator and snake shows will be held in the food court arena.
