2 Page 2 of 8 Aquatic Programs There were 2133 participants in the water exercise classes, 2366 lap swimmers, 2352 whirlpool users and 2246 therapy pool swimmers Swim Teams The Masters Swim team continues to practice Monday, Wednesday & Saturday Dolphins team practices M/T/W/Th/F 18 of the Dolphins swam in the Shamrock Swim Meet in Conway One Dolphin tryout was held resulting one additional team member Swimming Lessons Saturday group lessons began with 61 participants. This is a record number and two classes had to be added to accommodate all the requests for lessons. Swim Fit class had 5 participants March Events Coastal Carolina Aquatics hosted the Low Country Palmetto State Championships with 108 participants. Jr. Guard finished their program March 15 having 12 successful programs Kayak Class was held with 4 participants Coastal Scuba rented 2 lanes for a snorkeling class Therapy pool was rented for a B-Day party with 13 participants Dizzy Dolphin Slide opened during Spring Break with 119 sliders Spring Break program used the therapy pool Our new Assistant Aquatic Supervisor, Jessica Carfolite, was hired March 7 April Events Dolphins team will continue to practice M-Fri and will end season on April 29 th Dolphin Swim Team will hold its first intersquad Swim Meet April 1 with 19 participants Dolphin swim team will end its season by participating in the GSSL Championship Swim Meet at Pepper Geddings April 16 th Swim portion of the SEWSA Games will be held April 22nd Masters Swim Team continues practices M/W/S and they will compete in a US masters meet in Brunswick County and at USMS Spring Nationals in Greensboro Saturday group lessons continue through April 16 th with the next six week session to follow consecutively LG in service will be held April 24 th Hardwick Pools will do maintenance repairs on therapy pool pump and lap pool booster pump. Dizzy Dolphin Water slide will be open April 22 & 23

5 Page 5 of 8 Keep North Myrtle Beach Beautiful Appearance Award: Mar Vista, Mellow Mushroom, and Rite Aid on 6 th South were nominated for a Community Appearance Award Reports Eco Kids at Riverside Elementary, led by Sea Oats Garden Club member Julie Bell, will meet on March 9. Garden areas have been tilled and are ready to plant. Melany Nussbaumer will serve as liaison to Keep NMB Beautiful from NMB Middle School. Eco Tots of Ocean Drive Elementary were given Gro-Pots to use at a future meeting. A liaison from Waterway Elementary is still being sought. Approval was received from the City to paint a dumpster on Main Street. NMB High School art students, with guidance from their teacher, will paint the dumpsters. We are waiting for the Police Dept. to set a date for the drug turn-in to coordinate a spring shredding event and City cleanup. Dee attended the LCA conference and reported that police officers are being encouraged to build public trust by treating the public as their customers. Gerry attended the KSCB conference and reported that the three goals for KAB are to end littering, to improve recycling, and to beautify communities. There was discussion on how to implement the first goal of ending littering by making it socially unacceptable. Monday after the Masters will be April 11. Volunteers are needed from 8:30 am-9:00 pm. Volunteers will be shuttled to Barefoot from the NMB Park & Sports Complex. A waterway cleanup will be held on April 16 from 9:00 am until noon, lunch to be served. Staging area is Johnny Causey boat landing. The area between the trail by the lake at the NMB Park & Sports Complex and Hwy 31 will be cleaned in the spring. Details later. Marsh Cleanup Students for Missouri State University volunteered for a March cleanup on Tuesday March 8 th. 10 students, here on spring break participated. The students cleaned the marsh around the Burgess Preserve. The community service was done to fulfill a scholarship requirement. 34th Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt The Annual Easter Egg Hunt was held at Mclean Park and attracted over 1000 participants. Volunteers for the Lions Club, Optimist Club, Keep NMB Beautiful, NMB High School, the Garden Clubs, the Pilot club and many members of the community helped with the event. Run for the Shelter About 200 participants were in the Run for the Shelter 5k and 1 mile run. The event was held at the NMB Park & Sports Complex. This is the 3 rd year for this event and it had their largest tournament out so far.

6 Page 6 of 8 Athletics The youth basketball season finished with four all-star teams competing in district and state tournaments. The 9-10 boys won their first play in game before falling in the district to eventual winner Florence. The girls hosted a play in game against Myrtle Beach; they didn t win but fought hard the whole game never giving up. The department hosted the and year old state championships. This tournament had teams from Florence, North Charleston, Columbia, Westminster, and Charleston. Our teams did not win but lead both games until late into the 4 th quarter of each. They enjoyed the extra practice and playing in the state championship. Baseball, softball, and spring soccer practices have begun. A total of 32 baseball teams and 10 softball teams for a total of 450 youth participating. The regular season will begin April 6 th with the traditional opening ceremonies. The spring soccer season has seen unprecedented participation with 20 teams and 220 participants. The teams practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The season will begin in April at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex. The spring adult softball season started practicing with games beginning in April. The senior 55 and over league started their spring season and they play on Thursday on Dick s Last Resort field 4. The Spring Soccer league will begin in April. Sports Tourism/Special Events March was very busy with Fast Pitch Dreams, High Tide Frisbee and additional spring teams in town for spring training. Over 9300 players and spectators have been involved in one of the many events. Events held at the Park and Sports Complex in March generated $5,490,061 in economic impact to our community. Three basketball tournaments were held at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center with over 100 teams participating generating an economic impact over $654,000. The events at the Park and the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center along with sports tourism events held at the Aquatic and Fitness Center generated $6,202,739 in economic impact. An increase of $369,000 from 2015.

7 Page 7 of 8 The special event crew prepped over 338 softball fields for the Fast Pitch Dreams tournament and the Frisbee fields hosted over 1200 games for the month. The special event staff also prepped fields for the weekend Wilmington Ultimate Frisbee tournaments, the set-up and break down of the St. Patrick s Day festival and are in the process of removing the bleachers from Gym 1 at the JBFCC. Beach Services Beach Service employment positions are posted for concession worker and supervisor. Currently interviewing for concession worker positions. Approximately 70% staffed. All Beach boxes are on the beach. Fleet maintenance is currently conducting pre-season maintenance on vehicles. New Hipster XL Slide has been delivered. Beach service operations begin April 1 st.
