2 BULLETIN 1.0 Winter Swimming World Championships 2018 WSWC2018 March 5th - March 10th 2018, Tallinn, Estonia The International Winter Swimming Association has a great pleasure to host the 2018 Winter Swimming World Championships in Tallinn during the 100 years Anniversary of Estonia. Our target is always to find venues for our Championships so that swimmers along with their Families can enjoy the hospitality of new countries, learn to know different cultures and history. The Tallinn 2018 World Championships will offer a great variation of program. There will be many different races and for the first time the 25 meter Ice Butterfly will be an official race. Our program has developed from the early years when we competed only in 25 meter head up breaststroke and relays. The head up breaststroke will stay as part of our program in the future. It is one of our brands and it gives a great possibility also for amateur swimmers to achieve personal goals. I have always thought that winter swimming is one of the 2 most democratic sports in the world. You do not need expensive equipment and cold water is free for everybody. Our age categories give also the possibility to compete fairly in your own level. Most of our competitors consider winter swimming and open water swimming as part of their healthy lifestyle. This is an import part of our strategy and by organizing the World Championships every other year we want to offer our swimmers from around the World the possibility to meet each other and build life lasting relations around the common interest. In Tallinn we are looking forward hosting the biggest Winter Swimming World Championships in our history. The colder the water the warmer is our friendship. The population of Estonia is approximately 1.3 million, Tallinn has a population of 450,000. Tallinn s medieval Old Town is known around the world for its authentic Hanseatic architecture. AWARD CEREMONY Prize giving ceremony will take place at the end of every competition day at the event center, starting from 7 pm. COMPETITION ARENA Organizers will be providing medical support, safety in and on the water. Heated changing tents, warm drinks, saunas and toilets will be available to all participants. Access to the competition area is only allowed with pass cards. EVENT CLASSES & RULES The age groups for the event are determined by the swimmer s age on October 31st, 2017 by IWSA rules. The competition will be following the IWSA rules, which are stated here: Each participant has to fill in a medical certificate form for participation. All protests will be gathered at the problem desk. The fee for submitting a protest is 100, which will be refunded if the protest is solved in accordance with the existing rules. 7

9 GALA PARTY The official Gala dinner will be held at one of the most exclusive locations in Tallinn, the Seaplane Harbour. All guests receive a short tour of the harbour and half the exhibition remains open for the duration of the dinner. Exquisite food, top class entertainment and the company of friends guarantee a memorable evening. The official Gala dinner will be organized on Saturday, March 10th at 20:00. The harbour, bus station and train station are all located in the city center: By Air the largest international airport in Estonia is located in Ta llinn (TLL). 13 different airlines fly here and Helsinki-Vantaa (Finland) airport is only 100km away. The tickets are sold directly in the public transport vehicles or in newspaper kiosks. There are also 24-hour tickets, 72-hour tickets and 10-day tickets available. Taxi If you take a taxi you are advised to ask the driver for the approximate price before departing. The taxi can be either hailed on the street, or called in front of the hotel/pub. FOOD Just as with Estonian culture, the local taste has been infused with the best of our neighboring countries. Beer brewing tradition in today s Estonia is very much alive and kicking. Beer in Tallinn Old Town typically costs from 2.50 to 5.50 (0,5l). Pizza usually costs between 5 to 10.
