1 Sculling Camp 12/13 August 2017 Please find details below with regards to the Scottish Rowing Sculling Camp at the Scottish Rowing Centre on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 August The Sculling Camp will be run by the Scottish Rowing Performance team for single scullers from J16+ with the drive and ambition to improve their sculling to the next level. All scullers signing up to participate in the Camp are strongly encouraged to attend the British Rowing Sculling Festival in Nottingham the following weekend (19/20 August) and the Sculling Camp will be heavily focussed on preparing scullers for this event. Timetable Saturday 12 August 2017: 9:45am (registration open from 9:00am) to 4pm Sunday 13 August 2017: 8am to 4pm Venue Scottish Rowing Centre, Strathclyde Park, Motherwell, ML1 3ED Sculling Categories In line with the British Rowing Sculling Festival scullers will be welcomed in the following categories: 1. Open (Men s Senior, Men s U23, Men s J18, Women s Senior, Women s U23, Women s J18) 2. Beginner (Men s, Women s) those genuinely in their first year of the sport There will be no separate lightweight categories and all scullers will be treated as openweight. U23 s are those scullers who are born on or after 1 January Juniors born between 1 September 1998 and 31 August 2002 are entitled to attend however there will only be one junior classification.

2 Equipment The camp will be a single sculling camp and all participants will be required to have access to a club / their own single scull and blades for the duration of the weekend. The Scottish Rowing Centre has a small number of single sculls available to hire please contact John Blair john.blair@scottish-rowing.org.uk for more information. Coaching team The camp lead and welfare officer will be Lee Boucher, Scottish Rowing s Head of Performance Pathway and the lead coach for the camp will be Tom Young, British Rowing Start Coach. In addition a number of guest coaches will support the delivery of the camp. To enable a safe and efficient event to happen coaches of scullers participating in the camp are kindly requested to assist with the various aspects of the camp including coaching, marshalling, timing and safety roles. Each club that makes an entry should provide at least one coach to assist in the roles listed. All coaches participating in the camp will be required to be a member of the PVG Scheme through Scottish Rowing and have attended a Safeguarding and Protecting Children Course within the last 3 years. Coaches wishing to participate in the camp should lee.boucher@scottishrowing.org.uk by Friday 28 th July A jobs list will be published and made available at registration and these will be confirmed at the briefing each morning. Scottish Rowing has requested the use of additional coaching launches to ensure that as many coaches as possible can get on the water at once. Coaches participating will likely be asked to coach across the group and not exclusively with their own scullers. Accommodation & Meals This is a non-residential camp and junior scullers under the age of 18 will be required to be accompanied by a coach or a parent / guardian if staying overnight. There are a number of hotels in the vicinity of Strathclyde Park including: Holiday Inn Express, Hamilton Days Inn, Hamilton

3 Holiday Inn Express, Strathclyde Park Innkeeper s Lodge Glasgow, Strathclyde Park Alona Hotel, Strathclyde Park Scullers are encouraged to bring a packed lunch on each day as well as a water bottle and snacks for in between sessions. There is a café at Strathclyde Park should you wish to purchase food and drinks. Photography and Video Scottish Rowing reserves the right to use photographs and video taken during the camp, for the purposes of instruction and for the promotion of Scottish Rowing and the Scottish Rowing Centre. Images taken may appear on the Scottish Rowing website and / or the Scottish Rowing social media pages. Scullers / parents of scullers who do not wish photos to be used in this way should notify Scottish Rowing in advance of the camp. British Rowing Sculling Festival - Format The British Rowing Sculling Festival is an Omnium of Events run over two days (19/20 August 2017 at the National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham) with points from individual events contributing to the overall ranking of each sculler. All scullers will be expected to compete in all events on both days. The provisional order of events is as follows: Saturday 19 August Open Event 3800m (2 x 1900m) Time Trial Manoeuvrability Test Skills Testing 250m Time Trial 250m Side by Side Beginners Event 2000m (2 x 1000m) Time Trial Manoeuvrability Test Skills Testing 250m Time Trial 250m Side by Side Sunday 20 August Open Event 2000m Semi Finals 2000m Finals Beginners Event 1000m Semi Finals 1000m Finals

4 250m Side by Side: after the 250m time trials, all boats will be ranked. Boats ranked 1-6 will be seeded into Final A, boats ranked 7-12 will be seeded into Final B etc. 1000m/2000m Semi-Finals: at the end of the first day, all boats will be ranked according to their overall points to determine the seedings for the 1000m / 2000m semi finals. Boats ranked 1-12 will be seeded in to A/B Semi-Finals, boats ranked will be seeded into C/D Semi-Finals etc. 1000m/2000m Finals: the first 3 boats from each of the Semi-Finals A/B will progress to Final A, positions 4, 5, 6 from Semi-Finals A/B will progress to Final B. Similarly from Semi-Finals C/D to Finals C and D respectively. Manoeuvrability Testing: this will be run three abreast and each individual sculler will be timed. Skills Testing: each sculler will be assessed on a numbers of skills and be awarded pass, intermediate or fail on each skill assessed. British Rowing Sculling Festival Travel and Accommodation details Scottish Rowing will provide a trailering service to transport single sculls from Strathclyde Park to Nottingham and back (included as part of the camp fee), however it is the responsibility of each sculler to get their own way there and back as well as organising their own accommodation. The Scottish Rowing coaching team will be staying at the: De Vere Orchard Hotel Beeston Lane Nottingham NG7 2RJ Rooms for 2 nights arriving Friday 18 th August 2017 can currently be booked on Booking.com for c. 75 per night. Scottish Rowing is happy to help co-ordinate car shares or group train travel if requested.

5 British Rowing Sculling Festival Entry Info Scottish Rowing will co-ordinate all Scottish entries into the British Rowing Sculling Festival on behalf of all scullers who participate in the Scottish Rowing Sculling Camp. Those who do not intend to take part in the British Rowing Sculling Festival are asked to highlight this when registering. Performance Standard The Scottish Rowing Sculling Camp is being organised by the Scottish Rowing Performance team for scullers with the potential to progress within the sport. Scullers, whether experienced or beginners (within the past 12 months), should be expected to have realistic aspirations to represent Scotland and hopefully Great Britain in the future. If following the Scottish Rowing Sculling Camp, the coaching team believe that a sculler is not of a standard to participate in the British Rowing Sculling Festival, their entry may be pulled from the event by the Scottish Rowing Head of Performance Pathway. Cost The cost for scullers is 55 per person ( 25 Scottish Rowing Sculling Camp / 30 British Rowing Sculling Festival) payable at registration on the Saturday morning of the Scottish Rowing Sculling Camp. There is no charge for coaches / parents who participate in either of the camps. Application process By Friday 28 th July 2017 complete the online registration form at: Scottish Rowing reserve the right to limit the number of places available on the camp and completing the online registration form does not guarantee a place. In the case of oversubscription, places will be allocated on merit taking into account race results. Scottish Rowing will confirm by those who have been allocated a place before Wednesday 2 nd August 2017.
