BEGINNING MAC PLAY: The Miami University volleyball team begins Mid- American Conference play on the road this week. The RedHawks travel to Bowling Green Thursday to open league play with a 7 p.m. match. That contest will air live on ESPN3. Miami then heads to Western Michigan for a 2 p.m. matinee. 2. MAC FAVORITES: Miami enters conference play as the preseason favorite to take the regular season title according to a poll of the MAC coaches. The RedHawks have been knocking on the door each of the past two seasons, finishing in third in 2014 and fourth in The last time Miami was able to win the outright MAC regular season title was in 1998, capping off a string of four straight regular season crowns. 3. WINNING STREAK: The RedHawks have won seven in a row to complete nonconference play. It is their longest streak since winning 10 in a row from Oct. 11- Nov. 14, It is Miami s longest win streak of non-conference matches since winning seven in a row from Sept. 6-18, 1990.

That already exceeds last season s record of They have won seven matches in a row, including taking all three matches last weekend at the UIC Invitational (over host UIC, UMass-Lowell and SIUE) by 3-0 scores. Bowling Green is led by senior outside hitter Jelena Sunjic. She has 142 kills, an average of 4.05 per set. Despite hitting from the outside, she leads the Falcons with a.375 attack percentage. Defensively, senior libero Madeline Garda has been the star. She has 299 digs, an average of 6.50 per set. That digs average leads the entire nation. SERIES AGAINST BOWLING GREEN: Miami holds a lead in the all-time series with Bowling Green. The RedHawks have won four straight against the Falcons, including both meetings last year. On Oct. 8, 2015 in Oxford, Miami earned a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-15) win. Katie Tomasic led a balanced offensive attack with eight kills. On Nov. 12, 2015, the Falcons were able to take a set, but the RedHawks still earned a 3-1 (25-18, 18-25, 25-10, 28-26) victory. Jenny Ingle led Miami with 13 kills and a.867 attack percentage in that match. ABOUT WESTERN MICHIGAN: The Broncos are 5-8 on the season. They won both of their matches at the Indiana State tournament last Saturday, defeating Bradley, 3-1, and host Indiana State, 3-2. Prior to facing Miami, they take on Northern Illinois in their MAC opener on Thursday. Western Michigan is led by junior middle blocker Sydney LeMay. She has 175 kills, an average of 3.50 per set. Its libero is freshman Kathleen Reilly. She has 215 digs, an average of 4.30 per set. SERIES AGAINST WESTERN MICHIGAN: Western Michigan leads the all-time series with Miami, The RedHawks won both meetings last season, however. In the regular season finale on Nov. 14, 2015 in Oxford, Miami earned a thrilling, 3-2 (26-24, 23-25, 25-19, 25-27, 15-11) victory. Olivia Rusek recorded a double-double with a career-high 21 kills and 10 digs. The teams met again just six days later in the MAC Tournament Second Round in Athens, Ohio. This time, the RedHawks earned a 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 25-19, 25-19) win to eliminate the Broncos. Ingle led the way with 14 kills in the victory.
