The Falcons being Mountain West ac on with a Thursday night matchup against New Mexico on Sept. 19, before hos ng the annual Air Force Invita onal on Friday and Saturday (Sept ). NEW MEXICO MATCH INFORMATION Air Force s home opener with New Mexico will take place at 6:00 p.m., inside Falcon Court at East Gym. The Lobos are currently 8-1 on the year, following a sweep of Towson, Abilene Chris an and Northern Arizona last weekend at the Lobo Invita onal. AIR FORCE INVITATIONAL INFORMATION The Falcons will host five matches over the Sept weekend. On Friday, conference opponent Wyoming will travel to the Academy to take on UC Riverside and Utah Valley, book-ending a match between the two non-league schools. Following a day off from compe on, Air Force will take on UC Riverside and Utah Valley to wrap up the season s nonconference slate. All matches will have GameTracker available, while Saturday s contests will be video-streamed on GoAirForceFalcons.com. Last weekend, the Highlanders lost to Pacific and San Jose State, before picking up its first win of the season against Winthrop. Utah Valley is currently 2-8, but will face Weber State, UC Riverside and Wyoming prior to its match with Air Force. The Wolverines dropped three matches at its home tournament last weekend, with extra-set losses to Idaho State, UC Irvine and Utah. Air Force and Utah Valley have only faced each other twice, with a series ed at 1-1. The two programs last faced off during head coach Ma McShane s first season (2010), when the Wolverines took a 3-2 win from the Falcons. DRIDGE DIGS UP A MILESTONE Emma Dridge accounted for a career-high 32 digs against Army on Sept. 13, becoming just the second Division I player in Academy history to surpass the 30-dig mark in a match. The 32 digs against the Black Knights are just four shy of the program s Division I single-match record (36) that Maiya Perich set in SETTING HIGH STANDARDS With a #8 ranking in the AVCA weekly poll, Stanford is the highest-ranked team Air Force has faced at the Division I level. Four Falcons Hillary Keltner (.562), Raquel Rosas (.400), Ayesha Hein (.320), Cami Richan (.306) hit over.300 during the five-set match, while the team hit at a season-high.274 clip. In addi on, head coach Ma McShane remains undefeated (3-0) against the Mids. NEVER A DULL MOMENT Air Force wrapped up its busiest stretch of the season on Sept. 13, playing seven matches in the span of a week. Following contests against Long Beach State, San Francisco and Saint Mary s in California on Sept. 6-7, Air Force traveled to Navy on Sept. 11, before facing Stanford, Army and Yale in Washington, D.C., on Sept FALCONS STUN #28 LONG BEACH STATE Air Force claimed its first victory of 2013 with a drama c 3-2 win over 28th-ranked Long Beach State on Sept. 6 at the Bay Area Challenge. Highlighted by 14 service aces, the Falcons downed the 49ers in five sets (22-25, 25-15, 25-27, 25-22, 15-11) during the first-ever mee ng between the two programs. HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT Four Falcons hit over.375 in the Falcons win over Long Beach State, as the squad accounted for a season-high.274 average. With nine kills on 18 swings and just one error, Ayesha Hein posted a team-best.444 average. Hillary Keltner (2k-0e-5a) and Colle e Foster (3k-1e-5a) both hit.400, while Cami Richan added a.375 average with 16 kills on 32 a acks and just four errors. Two other Falcons hit above.230, as Maggie Sherrill swung at.256 (18k-7e-43a) and Raquel Rosas hit.231 (4k-1e-13a). RICHAN SERVES UP AN ACADEMY RECORD Senior Cami Richan recorded eight service aces during the Falcons five-set win over Long Beach State on Sept. 6, accoun ng for a new Air Force Division I single-match record. Richan s eight aces, five of which came during a stretch of six serves, broke the previous record of seven that former Falcons Delavane Diaz (2003) and Ka e Batchelder (2007) held. Her total was just one shy of the program s all- me record that Erin Carmichael set during the 1990 season. KELTNER NAMED ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Hillary Keltner earned the first Air Force Athlete of the Week award of the academic year on Sept. 2, a er a strong allaround performance at the Pioneer Classic. Keltner, who tallied a triple-double (10k-43a-17d) and hit at a.909 average against Denver on Aug 30, added double-doubles in the other two matches against UC Irvine (38a-25d) and Texas A&M Corpus Chris (41a-27d) for a total of 15 kills, 122 assists, 69 digs and four blocks on the weekend. A LITTLE HISTORY LESSON Collec ng 10 kills, 43 assists and 17 digs against Denver on Aug 30, Hillary Keltner became the first Air Force player since 1999 to record a triple-double in compe on. She joins Shaylor Billings, who accounted for 15 kills, 12digs and 11 blocks against Colorado State on Nov. 5, 1999, as the only Air Force players to reach that impressive plateau since the program joined the Mountain West. Keltner is the 30th conference player to achieve the triple-double standard. ONE MORE LESSON Hillary Keltner also became just the fi h Falcon to reach 15 double-doubles in a career since the program joined the Mountain West in With 16 career double-doubles, Keltner joined Carly Sie en (15), Caroline Kurtz (24), Kris n Hui (27) and Delavane Diaz (29) as the only players to reach that plateau. AKOKWE CLEMENT NAMED TO PIONEER CLASSIC ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM Following the Pioneer Classic, Akokwe Clement was selected to the all-tournament team by the votes from the three opposing coaches. Clement, who accounted for a team-leading 13 kills in each match, posted the most kills against Denver and Texas A&M Corpus Chris. For the weekend, Clement, who notched her first double-double against TAMUCC, accounted for 39 kills, 25 digs, three blocks, three assists and her first collegiate service ace. JUST DIGGING AROUND With 231 digs in the first three matches, the Falcons out-dug their opponents at the Pioneer Classic by 30. Air Force tallied a weekend-best 88 digs against Texas A&M Corpus Chris, highlighted by double-digit totals from Hillary Keltner (27), Emma Dridge (19), Rebecca Bates (11) and Akokwe Clement (10). Keltner and Dridge also surpassed the 10-dig plateau against Denver (17, 14) and UC Irvine (25, 19), while Bates added a 10-dig ou ng to her total against the Anteaters. POINT PRODUCTION The 106 points scored in the five-set loss to UC Irvine on Aug 31 ed for the program s fourth-highest single-match total since 25-point scoring began in In addi on, the 29 points scored in the second set is ed for the fourth-most in a single-set. FAST FACT The match with Denver marked the first me since 2008 that the Falcons didn t have a freshman in the star ng rota on. WELCOME TO THE SHOW Air Force added three freshmen to its roster in Savannah Banyai, Colle e Foster and Lauren Ossolinski. While it may be the smallest recrui ng class of head coach Ma McShane s tenure, it is a talented trio of freshmen that brought stellar creden als at both the prep and club levels to the Falcons roster. ON THE BENCH Ma McShane returns for his fourth season as the head coach of Air Force volleyball. During his first three years, McShane (16-73 overall) led Air Force to its first conference win in five years (San Diego State, 2010) and its first conference road win in nine years (at Nevada, 2012). He is joined by assistant coaches Louella Maxwell and Marc Swindle, as well as volunteer AJ Joseph. OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN Ayesha Hein and Hillary Keltner were named captains of the 2013 volleyball squad, marking the first me since 2006 that juniors have held the captaincy outright.

4 MOUNTAIN WEST PRESEASON COACHES POLL With nine of 11 first-place votes in the Mountain West Preseason Coaches Poll, San Diego State was picked to win the conference in The Aztecs tallied 99 total points to edge Colorado State (90 points), who received the remaining two first-place votes. Just five points separated third through sixth in the preseason poll, as UNLV (70), Utah State (68), New Mexico (66) and Fresno State (65) claimed those positions. Boise State was picked seventh with 51 points, while Wyoming (37), San Jose State (27) and Air Force (17) rounded out the top 10. Nevada completed the conference rankings with 15 points.
