The Falcons will host Nevada at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 21, before facing San Jose State at noon on Saturday, Sept. 23. SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS The Falcons weekend opponents will face each other on Tuesday, before making their respective trips to the Academy. Nevada enters the conference season with a 2-10 record, while San Jose State holds an 8-3 mark on the season. The Wolf Pack wrapped the non-conference portion of their season with a 0-3 slate at home, falling to Sacramento State (1-3), Missouri (2-3) and Pepperdine (1-3). In their final week of the non-mw season, the Spartans dropped matches to ninth-ranked Kansas (1-3) and Idaho (0-3), before sweeping Santa Clara at home. SERIES HISTORY Air Force is 5-6 all-time against Nevada and 4-7 in its lifetime series with San Jose State, although the Falcons are.500 with both since the Wolf Pack (5-5) and Spartans (4-4) joined the Mountain West. No current Falcons are from the state of Nevada. TICKET PROMOTIONS Thursday s match will feature discounted tickets for Academy permanent party members and Kid Force recognition, while Saturday s contest will include a special $3 hot dog, popcorn and drink offer. STAT BLAST... NON-CONFERENCE EDITION Three Falcons finished the non-conference season listed among the top of the Mountain West in their respective statistical categories. Denise Ssozi was listed third in both kills (3.94) and points (4.39), while Piper Heineck was ranked fourth in blocks (1.21) and sixth in aces (0.33). Shanleigh Conlan rounded out the trio with top-10 rankings in assists (ninth, 8.29) and aces (10th, 0.29). SSOZI NAMED TO NORTHERN COLORADO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM Denise Ssozi earned her second all-tourney nod of the season on Sept. 16, when she was selected to the all-tournament team of the Hampton Inn and Suites Northern Colorado Classic. During the Falcons 1-2 weekend, the sophomore collected 38 kills, 24 digs, four blocks, three assists and two service aces. THE YOUNG WILL LEAD Against Arkansas Pine Bluff on Sept. 15, the Falcons starting rotation featured five freshmen and one sophomore. With a lineup that included first-year players Andi Ahlers, Alex King, Kathleen Medill, Kelly Motes, Mackenzie Robertson and Brynn Sulte, Air Force won the opening set by a nine-point margin (25-16), out-killed the Golden Lions 14-8, hit over 300 (.314) and kept Arkansas Pine Bluff at negative hitting (-.027). KING, MIKSCH NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT SQUAD Alex King and Abigail Miksch were named to the all-tournament team of the Amy Svoboda Memorial Classic on Sept. 9, after helping Air Force to a split 2-2 record against Liberty (1-1) and Southern Utah afvolleyball afvolleyball WHAT S ON DECK Air Force remains at the Academy next week, when it faces a pair of Front Range foes in conference contests at Cadet East Gym. WHAT A COMEBACK! In the fourth-set against Southern Utah on Sept. 8, Air Force overcame a deficit to claim a thrilling victory over the Thunderbirds marking one of the program s largest comebacks in recent history. HEINECK NOTCHES FIRST 20-KILL MATCH Piper Heineck became just the sixth Air Force middle blocker to record a 20-kill match at the Division I level, as the senior tallied 20 scores on.412 hitting during the Falcons five-set thriller with Southern Utah on Sept. 8. Heineck, who added seven kills to her previous career high, joined Brooke Akers ( ), Shaylor Billings ( ), Kristin Hamlett ( ), Summer Koons ( ) and Nicole Stilwell ( ). HEINECK NAMED CADET-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Following a stellar weekend on the East Coast, Piper Heineck was named the Academy s Cadet-Athlete of the Week, presented by Lexus of Colorado Springs. The senior helped Air Force to a 2-2 record, including victories over Army West Point and The Citadel. Backed by an.846 hitting performance against The Citadel, a six-block outing against Columbia and a three-ace match against Army West Point, Heineck accounted for 32 kills, seven service aces, 14 blocks and 48 points during the four weekend contests. HEINECK, SSOZI NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM Piper Heineck and Denise Ssozi were named to the all-tournament team of the Service Academy Challenge on Sept. 1, as the Falcons posted a 2-1 record at their bi-annual event at the Pentagon Athletic Center. AIR FORCE SWEEPS ARMY WEST POINT The Falcons 25-20, 25-20, victory over Army West Point on Sept. 1 snapped a six-match skid against their service academy counterparts a span that dated back to The win, which improved the Falcons to 10-7 in the all-time series, also marked Air Force s first sweep in the series since the 2000 season. HEINECK S BLOCK PARTY Following a 14-block performance during the Falcons East Coast road swing on Aug. 30-Sept. 2, Piper Heineck debuted in the top 10 on all three of the program s Division I career blocking records. The senior entered the rankings tied for ninth in solo blocks and 10th in both assisted blocks and total blocks. SSOZI TALLIES FIRST 20-KILL MATCH Denise Ssozi registered the first 20-kill match of her career on Aug. 30, when she tallied 23 against Navy. She is the third member of the current Air Force lineup to register a 20-kill match and the 17th Falcon since FALCONS PLACE TWO ON ALL-TOURNAMENT SQUAD Piper Heineck and Elizabeth Pennington were named to the Bobcat Classic All-Tournament Team on Aug. 26, as the Falcons finished second in the overall team standings (Illinois, Air Force, Montana State, Gonzaga). It is the second all-tournament selection for Heineck and the third for Pennington. CONLAN MAKES HISTORY AT BOBCAT CLASSIC After tallying a 43-assist performance during the 3-1 victory over Gonzaga on Aug. 25, Shanleigh Conlan became just the ninth setter in Air Force Division I history to record 1000 assists in a career.
