The Falcons, currently ranked second in the conference with a 3-1 record, will travel to UNLV on Thursday, Oct. 9, and San Diego State on Saturday, Oct. 11. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. (PT). OPPONENT PREVIEW: UNLV UNLV, currently 13-5 on the season and 1-2 in conference play, is coming off of a 0-2 weekend that included road losses to seventh-ranked Colorado State (3-1) and Wyoming (3-0). UNLV is ranked second in team digs (14.70 per set) and third in team blocks (3.06 per set), while also ranking third in opponent hitting percentage (.149). Individually, Allison Davies (4.36 digs per set) and Bree Hammel (1.52 blocks per set) are ranked second in their respective stat categories. UNLV is 34-2 all-time against Air Force, including a perfect 18-0 record in Las Vegas. OPPONENT PREVIEW: SAN DIEGO STATE San Diego State, which will host New Mexico prior to its match with Air Force, is currently 5-8 overall and 1-2 in league play. The Aztecs, who have faced four nationally-ranked teams this season (#25 Arizona State, #17 Hawaii, #19 San Diego, #7 Colorado State), dropped a pair of road contests to Wyoming (3-1) and Colorado State (3-0) last week. As a team, San Diego State is ranked fifth in the conference in aces (1.36) after tallying 64 in 41 sets. San Diego State holds a 33-2 advantage over the Falcons, including a 17-0 slate in San Diego. MAKING A NAME AMONG NATION S BEST With 791 total assists, Hillary Keltner is ranked second in the nation, according to the Oct. 6 release of NCAA stats. She is also listed 23rd in assists-per-set, with an average, while the team is listed seventh in total assists (920). AROUND THE CONFERENCE In Mountain West matches, three Falcons are ranked among the conference s top-five, while the team holds several top-three rankings. Individually, Hillary Keltner is ranked second in assists (11.39), while Rebecca Bates is ranked third in digs (4.17) and Shelley Spires is listed fifth in hitting percentage (.346). As a team, the Falcons are ranked second in hitting percentage (.267), kills (14.06) and digs (14.17), while standing third in assists with a average. MAKING HISTORY After two weeks of Mountain West play, the Falcons are 3-1. Not only is that the team s best conference-opening in Division I history, but the three victories (to date) have matched or exceeded their win totals from nine of the last 10 years. Air Force, which matched its best-ever conference win total with five victories last season, combined for the same number of wins during the previous nine years (5-135 from ). GOING FOR THE BIG NUMBERS Several milestone numbers were reached during the Falcons 3-1 win over Boise State on Oct. 2, as Hillary Keltner recorded her 3500th career assist, Akokwe Clement notched her 850th kill and Raquel Rosas earned her 110th assisted block. FALCONS SET PROGRAM RECORD FOR LONGEST MW WIN STREAK After ending the 2013 season with a pair of league victories (vs Fresno State, vs San Jose State) and starting the 2014 conference season with three more (at Nevada, at San Jose State, vs Boise State), the Falcons rolled off a five-match MW win streak that marked the longest such streak in program history. The five straight wins bested the previous mark of three that came following wins over New Mexico, San Diego State and UNLV during the 1999 season. KELTNER SELECTED AS AIR FORCE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Hillary Keltner was named the Air Force Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after helping the Falcons to their best conference start in the program s Division I history. Keltner posted a career-high 60 assists in the Falcons win over San Jose State on Sept. 27, marking the first time since 2005 that any Air Force setter has reached the 60-assist plateau. facebook.com/afvolleyball WHAT S ON DECK The Falcons return to the Academy next week for the start of a four-match homestand. Akokwe Clement, 3rd tie 25.0 vs SIUE AIR FORCE OFF TO HISTORIC START By collecting victories at Nevada and San Jose State, the Falcons opened the Mountain West season with a 2-0 record. The win over the Wolfpack on Sept. 25 marked the first time since joining Division I that the Falcons have won a conference-opening match, while the victory over the Spartans on Sept. 27 put the Falcons at 2-0 and in an early tie for first in the MW standings. THE NEW ROAD WARRIORS The victories over Nevada and San Jose State marked the first time since 2003 that the Falcons have captured multiple road wins against conference opponents in a single season. In fact, the MW-opening win over Nevada marked just the second road win in league-play since that season, as the 2012 squad also defeated the Wolfpack in Reno to snap a 66-match losing streak in Mountain West contests away from the Academy. BUT WAIT, THERE S MORE At the midway point of the season (16 matches), Air Force has already matched its win total from all of last season (eight). WE VE GOT FREE VOLLEYBALL The Falcons combined for 114 points in their four-set victory over San Jose State on Sept. 27, marking the highest scoring fourset match in Academy history. The match, which trailed only five-set totals against Colorado (124) and Long Island (116), also featured two of the four highest scoring sets in program history, as the team accounted for 34 points in the second set and 30 points in the third. The 34 points only trails the 35 that Air Force put up against Colorado in ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS Akokwe Clement and Rebecca Bates were named to the all-tournament team of the Lone Star Showdown on Sept. 20. Clement recorded 50 kills during the three matches, recording at least 16 in each, while Bates capped the tournament with a 31-dig performance against Texas Tech. ANOTHER WEEK, ANOTHER MILESTONE Hillary Keltner continues to impact the Academy s record book, moving from fifth to fourth on the all-time list. Keltner, who notched a career-high 56 assists in the non-conference finale against Texas Tech to improve to a to-date total of 3348, moved over Angela Roberts ( , 3215) on the program s all-time list during the Falcons match with Denver on Sept. 16. CLEMENT ENTERS THE RECORD BOOK The program s Division I record book also got an adjustment during Air Force s Sept. 16 match with Denver, as Akokwe Clement entered the top-10 list of career kills. Clement quickly climbed the standings, as a 50-kill performance at the Lone Star Showdown jumped her over Shaylor Billings ( , 742) and Summer Koons ( , 797) with a to-date total of 798. JOINING AN ELITE LIST Rebecca Bates recorded a career-best 31 digs against Texas Tech shattering her previous high total by 10. She is just the third Division I player to break the 30-dig mark in a match, joining Maiya Perich (36 in 2011) and Emma Dridge (31 in 2013). ALL-TOURNAMENT HONOREE Hillary Keltner was named to the all-tournament team of the Billiken Invitational, after recording 131 assists, 12 kills, four aces, 28 digs and an assisted block during the Falcons weekend in St. Louis. As the Falcons setter, Keltner assisted the squad to a.268 overall hitting percentage for the tournament, including a.352 average in the sweep of Canisius. NOW SERVING... Highlighted by a five-ace output from Rachael Bradley Powers during the tournament opener against Canisius, the Falcons combined for 19 service aces in St. Louis. For the weekend, Bradley Powers tallied nine service aces, while Raquel Rosas (five... four of which came against Omaha) and Hillary Keltner (four... three of which came against Saint Louis) combined for an additional nine aces. Akokwe Clement rounded out the group of servers, as she notched her first ace of the season against Omaha. KELTNER KEEPS IMPACTING THE RECORD BOOK After recording a pair of double-doubles on Sept. 13, Hillary Keltner took over the Academy s Division I record for doubledoubles in a career with 30. The senior matched the record that had stood since Delavane Diaz first tallied her 29th in 2003, backed by a 51 assist-11 dig performance against Omaha and a 42 assist-10 dig showing against Saint Louis. FALCONS ROLL OFF THREE STRAIGHT WINS, CLAIM TOURNAMENT TITLE After opening the season with a 1-3 slate, the Falcons roared back over the Sept. 5-6 weekend with three straight wins to claim the Air Force Invitational team title. Hitting.325 as a team, Air Force swept Marist and Houston Baptist, before rallying to a 3-1 win over Weber State. The Falcons four victories through seven matches are the most for an Air Force program since MAKING HISTORY With 125 assists over the Sept. 5-6 weekend, Hillary Keltner became just the second Air Force Division I player to surpass the 3000-assist mark... and just the sixth in any Division. With 3,053 for her career, Keltner also moved from sixth to fifth on the program s all-time list, surpassing DII All-American Louella (Lovely) Maxwell. In addition, Keltner took over second outright on the program s DI list of career double-doubles, as she recorded her 28th against Weber State with 46 assists and 10 digs. BLOCK PARTY As a team, the Falcons recorded eight solo blocks and 22 assisted stops over the Sept. 5-6 weekend to out-block their opponents by a margin. Raquel Rosas led the way with 10 blocks, including three solo stops, while Akokwe Clement (two solo, three assisted), Hillary Keltner (five assisted) and Taylor Parker (one solo, four assisted) each added five. DEFENSIVE DANDIES Defensive specialists Emma Dridge and Rebecca Bates each recorded a kill during the Falcons match with California on Aug. 31. Backed by a career-best 21 digs from Bates, the pair also combined for over half of the team s 69 digs (36). It is the second straight year that Bates has recorded a kill against a Pac-12 team, as she notched one against eighth-ranked Stanford last year.

4 CLEMENT NOTCHES CAREER-HIGH KILLS Akokwe Clement broke the 20-kill mark for the first time in her career, as she notched 23 kills against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Aug. 30. The junior improved her single-match kill total by five, while also set career-high marks in attacks (50), assists (6), digs (10) and points (25.0). AIR FORCE IN SEASON OPENERS With a 3-0 sweep of Winthrop on Aug. 29, the Falcons improved to all-time in the first match of a new year, while head coach Matt McShane is 2-3 overall in openers and a perfect 2-0 in season debuts held at the Academy. AIR FORCE BEGINS NEW TRADITION WITH FALCON CLASSIC The program hosted the first Falcon Classic in Honor of Amy Svoboda over the August weekend to honor former teammate Amy Svoboda. A 1989 graduate of the Academy and four-year letterwinner on the Air Force volleyball team, Svoboda was killed during an A-10 training accident in Svoboda, who earned MVP honors during her senior season with the Falcons, was one of the first 14 female fighter pilots in the Air Force and one of the first six to fly the A-10. LEADING THE WAY Victoria Foster, Hillary Keltner and Maggie Sherrill were selected as captains for the season. It is just the second time in program history that three Falcons have held been named team captains. Keltner, who also held the captaincy last season, is the seventh player in Air Force history to hold that title in back-to-back years. WELCOME TO THE SHOW The Falcons added five freshmen to their 2014 roster with the addition of Piper Heineck, Erin Hoppe, Peyton Moyles, Natalie Seitz and Shelley Spires. The recruiting class, backed by a Defensive Dandies nod for Seitz, earned High Honorable Mention honors from PrepVolleyball.com. It is the second time in three years that the Falcons have been recognized their recruiting. HOME SWEET HOME The Falcons will play 17 matches within the friendly confines of Falcon Court at Cadet East Gym during the 2014 season. Following the two season-opening tournaments, Air Force will host non-conference foe Denver on Sept. 16, before beginning the home slate of Mountain West matches during the first weekend of October. FALCONS EARN PROGRAM S HIGHEST PRESEASON RANKING Air Force earned its highest preseason conference ranking in program history, as the Mountain West coaches picked the Falcons ninth in the 11-team league (31 points). It is just the second time in program history that the Falcons have not been picked to finish last in the conference, as last year s team was picked 10th. ON THE SIDELINES Matt McShane returns to the sideline for his fifth season with the Falcons volleyball squad.
