We walked in Brunswick, Darien, and two different walks on Jekyll Island. Great walks! It was fun meeting new people and walking acquaintances from the past. February 23 25, San Antonio, Texas, at the Texas Trail Roundup. Hopefully, this event will become an IML in the near future. It was great walking in San Antonio on the Riverwalk and seeing all the people. You need to try these events the next time they are offered. Now, club business: April 21, there is a bus coming from Maryland. The Seneca Valley Sugarloafers, about 30 walkers, will be arriving at the Quality Inn, formerly the Comfort Inn, about 11:00 am and planning on doing both walks. I will be away and Lester is going to be there to stamp their books and could use some help. Also, please come and do the walk with them. If the weather is dry, he will have the walk box on a card table out on the riverfront like we did for the Liberty Bell bus last year. This makes it much easier as the hotel lobby is small. Don t forget to sign up to work at the Rivertowns Weekend event, May 4 6. If you are able to help one or more times over the three days, please call Cookie Little at The 3 clubs are having a bake sale. Please bring your favorite baked goods to be sold. Last year we had a wonderful assortment. Hope to see you on the trail. 3 THE ROVER REPORTER PAGE 3 Susquehanna Rovers Volksmarch Club is 30 years old this year! Show your appreciation for the many years that hard working volunteers spent putting on special events for you to enjoy. How? Good question. Now if we want the club to continue to exist, we need your help. Just as a party does not magically happen at your house; an event does not happen without people contributing their time and talent. As you know, it is always fun to work together to accomplish a common goal. It is also a good way to meet new people that share your love of Volksmarching. We have very few people coming to our meetings. Therefore, there are only a few people who do most of the work. We are thankful that so many of you help at Hershey, but Hershey is not our only event. Check points and Start/ Finish volunteers are important at an event, but there are other jobs that need filling for the club to be successful. Such jobs include membership, volunteer scheduling, online publicity (we haven t seen or heard from our listed one for at least a year), sales coordination, historian (we gave up looking for one of those at least a decade ago), designer for awards, and one of the most important jobs, president. Our meetings are once a month except for December. They also need a facelift. Over the years we have moved the meetings around - when I started in 1991, we met at the New Cumberland Depot, then the East Shore Library, then Gander Mountain and now at BassPro. We are always open to moving them again if a new president would want them moved. We have tried to centralize them as a couple of folks come from Etters, Newport, Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg, and Camp Hill, one even stops after work before he goes home to Ephrata. Most of the folks that attend our meetings have already been officers or heads of committees for many years. We need some new faces to help us and to put a sparkle in our steps. Think about it. If Volksmarching is important to you and you enjoy coming to Rovers events, then please think about your talents and share them with us. We need you. Pat Eby - call if you have any questions While we are on this subject, many of you have not renewed your membership for I am temporarily doing this job. I would like to not have to mail out postcards to remind you to renew. So could you send in your $10 dues (per household) along with your name, address, phone number, address and if you would like to help in some way. Send that to Susquehanna Rovers, 19 N 27th St, Camp Hill, PA Please make checks out to Susq Rovers Fall Foliage Festival State College PA Centre County Friday, October 19 - Sunday, October 21 Sponsored by the Keystone State Volkssport Assn. Join us for a fun filled social and walking weekend in the beautiful State College area. Deadline for reservations is August 30, so call now. Once the block of rooms is gone, it is unlikely that others will be available at that rate. Town & Gown Trail - (5K or 10k) Rated 2A Starts at Super 8 and goes thru downtown and onto the Penn State Campus. The walk is different than the year round event and former Fall Foliage walks.
