14 Preparation is underway for the AFF/AFC respective age group tournaments NFA U-15 undergoing a battery of fitness test under the watchful eyes of our Sports Scientist in preparation for the AFC U-16 Qualifiers from 20 th to 24 September NFA U-18 Team undergoing specific physical training in preparation for the AFC U-19 Qualifiers from 31 Oct to 8 th November 2017

16 The NFA U-17 Team participated in the 2017 J- League U-16 Challenge League in Tokyo, Japan from 30 March to 8 April and returned with a credible 4 th place in the tournament. 18 SINGAPORE U-17 FEATURED IN FOUR FOUR TWO APRIL EDITION Singapore's under-17 team put on decent showing in Japan Singapore's under-17 side put up a good fight in the recent 2017 J.League under-16 Challenge League, finishing fourth out of seven teams in their group. By Staff Writer SG Published 7 April 2017 This was the first time a Singapore side was invited to the tournament, with English Premier League outfit West Ham United among the other foreign invitees. We would like to thank Japan Foundation, J.League and everyone else involved for inviting us to this tournament. We are getting precious experience every day in Japan Singapore youth teams have not had much success in recent years but they impressed many in Japan, beating the likes of local side Giravanz Kitakyushu and eventual group winners, J.League 1 outfit Vegalta Sendai s youth team. However, defeats to Tokyo Verdy and FC Tokyo meant the young Singaporeans had to settle for a fourth-place finish. We would like to thank Japan Foundation, J.League and everyone else involved for inviting us to this tournament. 19 In addition to testing themselves against some of Japan s brightest youngsters, there was also plenty for the Singapore under-17s to experience off the field. They watched a J1 League game between FC Tokyo and Sagan Tosu at the Ajinomoto Stadium in Chofu, Tokyo shortly after arriving in Japan, which ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw. They were also able to immerse themselves in the local culture, including a calligraphy session. Read more at

24 UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH UFC MMA FIGHTER RAFAEL DOS ANJOS The Garena Young Lions were treated to a personal session with a UFC MMA Champion who is in town to promote his fight in June 2017 and share the importance of mental toughness and resilience in Sports and Life Rafael sharing his tough childhood with the players Rafael was peppered with questions after his inspirational talk
