Roseior was preseted with his award by former Seagulls striker ad teammate Bobby Zamora ad said: I m hooured to be recogised by Show Racism the Red Card, ad it was made eve sweeter to be preseted with the award by a club leged i Bobby Zamora which was a ice surprise! Fulham are a very good side, oe of the best passig sides i the divisio, ad by the time they took the lead they had deserved it. However, we are a very resiliet side at the momet ad we showed o the day, ad previously at Birmigham City, a real desire ot to lose ad to go o ad wi the game. Like ourselves, Fulham had goe ito the fixture havig had their previous game called off due to the fog. While they did maage 45 miutes agaist Readig, our ow game agaist Cardiff City was postpoed before a ball had bee kicked. It was very, very frustratig for lots of reasos, the mai oe beig that the game will ow have to be rescheduled. This will mea aother fixture to squeeze i further dow the lie, while causig disruptio to fas, some of whom might ot be able to make the re-arraged date. It was a game we desperately wated to play but, sayig that, havig atteded the pitch ispectio that eveig, it was certaily the correct decisio. Of course, oe of the above would be possible without the backig of so may people off the pitch, who esure thigs ru so smoothly for Chris ad the team. The coachig, recruitmet, aalysis ad player liaiso teams have all doe a excellet job, givig the maager ad the players the support ad iformatio eeded; as has our medical team, who do a fatastic job i keepig players fit, ad rehabilitatig those with ijuries; while our kit staff make sure the players have every piece of kit or equipmet eeded. These are the usug heroes, who work so closely alogside the team, puttig i log ad usociable hours, travellig the legth ad breadth of the coutry, spedig time away from their families, particularly at this busy time of year. The there are the club s chefs ad caterig teams who esure players ad staff get a utritious, healthy diet o a daily basis; the groud staff, who do a superb job i preparig pitches; the security ad receptio staff, workig aroud the clock to give our staff ad visitors a friedly welcome, ad also keep them safe; ad the maiteace ad cleaig teams, workig to keep the traiig groud ad stadium i tip-top coditio. I d also like to metio our teams based at the Amex. Firstly, our operatios team, who ve had a very tough year, due to the rail strikes but have performed brilliatly i the face of such adversity, to help fas get to ad from the Amex. Our supporter services ad ticketig team have worked icredibly hard to achieve a seaso-ticket sell-out, ad a umber of sold-out crowds here at the stadium i the first half of the seaso; the commercial team have doe a superb job o 1901 Club reewals, alogside excellet work with our loyal sposors ad parters, ad attractig ew busiess to the club; our retail team prides themselves o beatig targets ad have just worked icredibly hard through their busiest period of the year; our store is ope for busiess 362 days every year, as well as operatig olie aroud the clock. The way the staff reacted to this, ad supported each other through a very difficult time, was a credit to the values of the club ad AITC. The club has three full-time paid directors, myself icluded, but eight o-executive directors icludig our chairma who give up huge amouts of uremuerated time to help steer, support ad promote the club, i additio to maagig their ow busiesses ad pursuig other iterests. They are all huge supporters of this football club ad they represet a ivaluable source of kowledge ad guidace for me persoally. We are very fortuate to have such a taleted, committed ad uified board of directors. O the pitch, the achievemets of the team were pheomeal i 2016, but oe of this would have bee possible without all the people metioed above. I would therefore like to thak our staff ad board for the role they all played i helpig make 2016 such a memorable caledar year. We are all very committed to doig everythig i our power to makig 2017 eve better. Fially, as you are all aware, our game agaist Cardiff City o December 30 was postpoed due to the fog that desceded o Sussex that particular day. It was ufortuate that the decisio came as late as 6pm but there was a strog desire from all sides to get the game o. However, the fog was worseig as it got colder ad followig the third ispectio from the referee Chris Kavaagh, there was o optio i the ed. It was a uaimous decisio take betwee both clubs ad the referee i the iterests of player ad spectator safety but also because supporters would ot have bee able to watch ad ejoy the match. It was icredibly frustratig for both clubs ad both sets of supporters particularly those from Cardiff, who we look forward to welcomig back to the Amex for the rescheduled game, ad the Albio fas who were makig both short ad log joureys. However, it s ot the first time it s happeed as Seagull discovered The pair of you could be goig head-tohead today, so would the texts have bee flyig back ad forth i the build-up to the game? George: I remember ot speakig to Sam the day before a game oce ad he scored, ad sice the he s bee playig pretty well, so I ve teded to keep away i the build-up to a game. So far it s worked for him; but I suppose I should have called him before the game today! Sam: George is certaily the more superstitious but it s a ice touch that he does somethig like that o my behalf. As this is a cup game, the itesity is ot the same as if it was a league game ad three poits ridig o the outcome. However, I m sure we ll get together after the game, which is whe the bater will start. Was Sam someoe you looked up to as a kid, George? G: Yes defiitely, ad I still do. Obviously he s ridig high at the top of the Champioship ad scorig some importat goals, so there s that sese of pride I have i him. He s someoe who coducts himself well, so he s a good role model for a lot of youg pros ad log may his success cotiue. Ad what about you Sam, could you tell George had the potetial to become a footballer? S: I defiitely kew he was taleted but I could t gauge how far he might go as I was playig myself ad so did t get to see may of his games. He was a box-to-box midfielder back the, ad whe I did see him, he was defiitely a class above i his age group. He always had a real drive ad passio to improve, which has ever left him, ad with that metality, he was always goig to have a chace i the game. He s ow take that chace. Oe of you was a goalscorer grabbig all the headlies at MK, the other a buddig full-back tryig to make his way at the same club. Did that create issues? G: Sam s had a lot of limelight o him from a youg age, but there s o jealousy or evy. I ve always bee happy for him to have all the attetio ad for me to go about my busiess quietly. It s take me a bit loger to get to where I am but sometimes it works out that way. S: George was oly 18 whe I left MK ad he s goe o to make a ame for himself i his ow right. He was i the League Two Team of the Seaso while o loa at Oxford last year, which is o mea feat give he was oly there for half a seaso, ad the he retured ad stood out i what was a strugglig MK Dos team i the Champioship. He s very sigledmided ad itese about his football, so he would ve focused o himself rather tha what I was doig whe I was at the club. He scored a hat-trick at Chesterfield; I was o the bech that day ad by the ext game [at Norwich i the League Cup] we kew a couple of maagers were watchig. He scored agai ad I was o the bech quietly chucklig to myself thikig, he s off. The free-kick he scored agaist Peterborough the previous seaso i the play-offs was a good momet, ad aother was Oldham away whe I made my first start i the league ad we liked up ad he early scored. That was ice for our mum ad dad to see. S: That Oldham game is obviously a vivid memory because it was, I thik, the oly time we played i the first-team together. It was a ed-ofseaso game; we d already booked our place i the play-offs, so a few of the youger players were give their chace ad I was o the bech. The maager thought it would be a ice touch to give me te miutes at the ed ad I do remember George makig a ru, the pair of us the playig a quick oe-two, ad I just failed to make a good coectio with a cross he put ito the box. You ve played agaist each other before, what was that like? G: The first time was quite surreal [MK v Bristol City i 2013]. The occasio was obviously big for our family ad we had quite a few frieds there as well. It was strage seeig each other warm up close to the halfway lie before the game. Sam scored twice that day i a 2-2 draw, but sice the it s felt alright, quite ormal. I d be lyig though if I said the first game was like that it was very strage. S: That first game was very strage, ot just because I was facig my brother but because it was my first game back at Stadium MK. I remember walkig i ad turig towards the wrog dressig room. There was a lot of build-up locally i the media but oce you step over that white lie, you forget what s goe before. I kew that, give the opportuity, George would kick me ito row Z if he could ad there was oce occasio whe he was headig towards me fully committed, but I saw it comig ad jumped out of the way. I did t celebrate scorig my goals either. I had too much respect for the club to do that. Sam, you ve told us before that George really beefitted from his loa spells at Oxford. Did you watch him play there at all? S: It coicided with my spell out ijured here, so I did watch a few games ad he really stood out as a right-back. It was a great opportuity for him to go out ad get some games uder his belt but I kew from watchig him there that he could go o to better thigs. G: It was really successful ad I was pleased to see the club go o ad get promoted last seaso. They really helped me with the way they play, the trust they put i me, ad I had a great relatioship with the maager. It ticked all the boxes for my developmet ad was oe of the mai reasos why I m ow playig i the first-team at MK. Both clubs have experieced cotrastig fortues this past year, so where are you at right ow? G: Robbie Neilso has come i ad lifted everyoe s spirits. The philosophy he s put i place ad the way he is aroud the club has really had a positive impact. He s slightly tweaked the way we play but the boys have really take to it. Everyoe aroud the place has got a lot of respect for him ad that s started to rub off o our performaces. S: We re delighted with the way the seaso is goig, but we wo t be takig our foot off the pedal because this is a cup game. Yes, it s a ice diversio from the itesity of the Champioship, but wiig breeds cofidece ad we wat to keep our ubeate ru goig. There could well be chages to our side today, but we ll be determied to make it to the ext roud. What s your favourite FA Cup memory, as a player ad a fa? S: I would say scorig agaist Arseal at the Amex a couple of years ago. I was playig off the left that day but wadered ito the middle, makig a striker s ru, ad diked the ball ito the bottom corer (pictured). It brought us back to 3-2 but I thik the scorelie flattered us as we were well beate o the day. I terms of memories as a fa, I just love to see ay cup upset. I see that West Ham v Ma City has bee chose as a live game this weeked, a match where both sides will rest players, but I d have preferred to see a game where there s a real chace of a upset. G: As a player it was defiitely last year [at Oxford], beatig Swasea City, a Premier League team. We were ridig high i League Two, full of cofidece, ad it s a game I wo t forget i a hurry. As a fa, although I do t support Liverpool, I d have to say the Steve Gerrard Fial, whe they beat West Ham at the Milleium Stadium. I remember that wodergoal that tured the game o its head. It s fair to say that MK are the uderdogs today, so how do you see thigs goig? G: Most teams i the coutry would be uderdogs goig to the Amex at the momet. It ow rus more tha 30 sessios throughout Sussex ad has recetly lauched a umber of ew disability-specific sessios, icludig oe for juior players with cerebral palsy or who walk with a frame ad aother for youg people with autism. It costs AITC up to 5,000 a year to ru a weekly disability football sessio, icludig veue hire ad the cost of providig qualified coaches, which is why the charity s fudraisig work is so importat. Ad, with people curretly decidig o a New Year s resolutio, AITC is hopig to covice some people to use their resolutio to fudraise or voluteer with the charity ot least those lookig to set themselves a physical challege to complete i AITC has charity places available for the Brighto Half Maratho o 26 February; the BM10K ad Brighto Maratho o 9 April; ad the Warrior Ru o 23 April. The Warrior Ru, i particular, represets a fatastic opportuity for people to take o a sigificat challege.
