1 WEALDSTONE v WHITEHAWK REWIND>>>>>>>>>>> Toby Jackson (yes, he of the club badges stall) wrote a pretty hard-hitting column in the programme back in the 80s and his comments about the crowd as as relevant today as they were then formed a decent pairing and a lot of our better results were achieved during Millers 2 month loan. Welling were to eventually finish 3rd from bottom and relegated whilst we finished one place above them with 3 points more and safety. This fixture was seen as pretty significant at the time but come the seasons end I think it was safe to say its was far more important than we realised at the time. Monday October 7, 2013, Ryman League Cup: Wealdstone 1 Hendon 0 A fairly low-key fixture this one and a chance for both squads to give some of their fringe players a run out. We had just lost our first league game of the season two days before against Margate at The Vale after having gone 11 unbeaten, so another home game gave us the chance to get back on track. I suppose on paper a game against Hendon is seen as a local derby but I have never found any true intensity on or off the field against them in my time - though some of our older fans tell me things were indeed spicier back in the 60 s when the clubs met regularly in what was a true rivalry, culminating in our 3-1 win against them at Wembley in the 1966 Amateur Cup Final. Just 207 turned up for this one, in what was a typical minor cup match with chances at both ends. The all-important winner came from the unlikely source of James Hammond (left) as he thrashed home a shot into the top corner at the Bulla End early in the second half. We had to hang on a bit at the end as Hendon strove for the equaliser but it was not to be and it was the Stones who went marching on into the next round. WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? The next round paired us with Harrow Borough in another home game. A 2-2 draw at 90 minutes ended up with defeat in a penalty shoot out. I think it s fair to say Wealdstone are only marginally better than England when it comes to these scenarios. Our record is pretty hopeless if the truth be known.

2 Wealdstone Ladies GLWFL DIVISION 2 SOUTH Wealdstone 3 Crystal Palace 1 W ealdstone Ladies wanted to make amends for their disappointing defeat against Balham Panthers as they entertained Crystal Palace Ladies in their GLWFL Div 2 (south) match. With a number of key players still out through injury, it was not going to be easy to get a result from today but the manager Gary was confident given Stevie was on the bench and could make an impact if needed. The match started and right from the off Crystal Palace out-played us with their good passing game which showed up our own inabilities to cope with this level of play and begun to unsettled us. Palace made run after run at our defense who soaked up the pressure but unfortunately in turn led to mistakes by bad passing and decision making. When Palace did get through our defense we had keeper Courtney was on hand to pull off some blinding saves to keep us in the match. When The Stones finally did venture into the Palace half we couldn t penetrate their defense enough to make any impact on the game. After a succession of Palace corners they finally got a head on one which passed Courtney into the back of the net to go 1-0 up after 40 mins. Nothing was working as The Stones heads begun to drop, Palace continued attacking. Courtney pulled off a crucial save and Holly raced to clear the rebound off the line. Halftime 0-1 Stevie returning from injury started the second half as we were kicking down the slope and The Stones began to play football but was still lacking that final ball as chances were missed at both ends. Stevie taking control in midfield began to thread the balls through left and right which put Palace under pressure. One ball found Amy who popped it through to Storm who passed the ball into the far corner of the net to make it mins The heavens opened and with that The Stones heads began to rise, Amy saw, and took her opportunity to make it mins. The Stones began to dominate the game as Palace tried to defend every ball. A cross from Storm connected with Stevie who volleyed the ball passed their keeper to make it mins. The match finished with more attacks from Rosie, Amy, Harlee and Stevie. Final score Wealdstone 3-1 Crystal Palace. It was great to have Stevie on the bench to call upon for the second half as her presence on the field began to lift the players and they started to believe that they could make a difference to the game. In the end it was a team effort from Courtney in goal who on many occasions kept us in the game. Holly for her goal line clearance to stop us going 2-0 down. Megan for putting her body through the mill with her defending at all costs attitude. Player of the match Keeper Courtney Munns.
