In this week s edition, the Feds First Grade get back to winning ways, whilst the Reserves dream run comes to a shuddering close. The Under 13s also notch up a massive win to book their spot in the Grand Final. Grand Final Time Get Out to Support the Boys!!!!! For the first time in the Club s history, the Feds Youths have two teams in the Grand Final this Sunday 18 th September The Under 13s are up against Southern Branch in an intriguing match up. Both sides are in form, and this should be a top match of the highest quality. The Under 16s are up against Gladesville Ryde Magic. The boys are looking to go one better from their Grand Final loss last year, against the Magic, who stole the side s Minor Premiership this season. Both matches are being played at Popondetta Park, Popondetta Rd, Emerton. The Under 13s kick off at 8.45 am. The Under 16s kick off at 1.45 pm. Get out to support the boys in the biggest match of the season!!!!! Full game details: Venue: Popondetta Park, Popondetta Rd, Emerton. Under 13s vs Southern Branch. Kick off 8.45 am. Under 16s vs Gladesville Ryde Magic. Kick off 1.45 pm. First Grade Put Away Prospect Report submitted by the Hakoah Feds Committee. After last week s lacklustre performance, the Feds First Grade came ready for the challenge that Prospect United presented in their elimination Semi Final on the weekend. With the knowledge that a single slip-up could end the boys season, Coach Mark Robertson sent his side out as follows:
Terry DalBroi Marc Kacen (c) Joe Vrkic Pat Darvill Greg Moss Daan Ranshuijsen Nathan Kosmina Neil Jablonski Deklan Gilmartin Justin Kosmina Rani Rimmer Bench: Seamus Dowd, Jon Pillemer, Michael Randall, Adam Joseph, David Helfenbaum. Hakoah came out rearing to go, dominating the play with their fluid possession game. Prospect were made to chase shadows for lengthy periods of the first half, as the Hakoah boys pushed the ball around with ease. Neil Jablonski was unlucky to be denied a header in the 3 rd minute, as the ball bounced back out off the inside of the post. But with the pressure on, Hakoah were eventually rewarded in the 35 th minute. Justin Kosmina brilliantly kept the ball in off the by line, heading back into the box for Jablonski to finally get back on the score-sheet after failing to score in the past two weeks. The second half saw Prospect throw caution to the wind, trying to find an equaliser. However, keeper Terry DalBroi was up to the challenge, stopping numerous Prospect attacks with complete composure. Finally, in the 70 th minute, Hakoah made it 2-0, after Justin Kosmina toe-poked a clinical Daan Ranshuijsen cross. The match ended without any changes to the 2-0 score line, which thankfully ended Hakoah s two-match losing streak. The First Grade are now up against rivals Northbridge FC in a tantalising Preliminary Final this Sunday 18 th September 2011 at Hensley Athletic Field, Corner Corish Circuit and Wentworth Avenue, Pagewood. Kick off is at 7 pm.
Reserves Fall Against Northbridge The Reserve Grade fell 0-2 to Northbridge in a surprisingly dull performance. The boys, who have completed a stunning run of form to end the season in the top five, could not capitalise on their early dominance, wasting a host of chances in the first half. Some poor defending allowed for Northbridge to go 1-0 up in the 35 th minute, which seemed to stun the Hakoah side from playing their usual passing game. Pushing for an equaliser in the second half, gaps began to open up, and Northbridge dealt the fatal blow in the 75 th minute, making it 2-0. Despite the loss, the Reserve Graders had a brilliant season, showing the potential of the future First Graders in years to come. The Under 13s are Going to the Show!! With only the absence of Bill Murray suggesting otherwise, there was a distinct feeling of Groundhog Day on Sunday morning as the Hakoah Under 13s were back out in Camden, challenging the Tigers. This match, the Preliminary Final, was the third time the sides have met in the past month. Camden were full of confidence leading into the game, as they have won both of the last two encounters. However Hakoah had put on a clinical show in their Semi Final, and were ready for anything Camden could throw at them. In what was a tough match on a bumpy pitch, Hakoah held their own to take home a 1-0 victory. Ryan Blumberg scored the winner from a Jordi Swibel free kick midway through the second half. The match was a physical contest, with only a handful of chances falling to both sides. The local referees made Hakoah s job that much harder, but the boys didn t falter, deservedly earning their spot in the penultimate match of the season this week. The side s defence of Blumberg, Jonathan Herman, Brad Sarif, Adam Borowsky and Jacob Riesel all had clinical performances, ensuring another clean sheet was kept by the boys. The Under 13s are now up against Southern Branch in the Grand Final this Sunday 18 th September Full details are at the top and bottom of the newsletter.
Road to the Finals With Dino D Agrosa Each week we will be checking-in with Feds First Grade defender Dino D Agrosa for an insight into the First Grade s push to the finals from within the looking glass. Dino, known somewhat as the Loch Ness Monster, has been injured for a large part of this season. However, he has a way with words that we feel can give everyone a strong understanding of the First Grade side (largely pointing out their foibles!!). We are all looking forward to his weekly segments. Firstly apologies for the no show on the article front in last weeks newsletter. I was going to make up an elaborate excuse that I had been roofied by a member of the wolf pack on the Sunday whilst trying to take the pain away from our defeat to Roosters and woke up on Wednesday thus missing deadline day. This would of course all be incorrect as I was unfortunately abducted by aliens. They said after a brief inspection I was damaged goods and flew away leaving me slightly bedraggled outside the Coogee Bay Hotel with a John Wayne swagger. Anyhoo, back to business and we were back to winning ways at the weekend. At the tender age of 9 my PE Teacher preached Donato it s not the winning that matters, it s the taking part that counts.. It is bollocks, it s all about the winning was my retort. Near expulsion followed but I was right. If only I could ve teleported my learned teacher to the atmosphere in the changing room after our defeats to Northbridge or Roosters to prove how wrong he was... Fortress Stadio Del La Hensley had returned and we had our idiosyncratic ways back too. Someone tried to pronounce Daan s surname, Mossy was tweeting Michael Owen for advice on pre-match meals, Moshe & Seamus were arguing about their favourite SpongeBob character, JP was on his mobile, Randall & Deks were offering each other a pre-match rub downs, Vik was doing his best to sedate Paddy and Rani was caught pondering a
modelling contract from Just for Men. In the background the Kosmina brothers squabbled over who was wearing the white thermal with the thumb holes. This season I ve found out that the dugout is a place where benched players get to make bold predictions, it s like a small tin TAB. The area seems to harbor positive energy like a crystal ball and allows players, substitutes and physio s to channel its mystic properties into on-field prophecies. JP If we score one we ll win watch this Vik This is going to be a goal Dave He s going to get sent off Randall I m gonna tell Deks I love him Seamus I like Squidword Moshe Does this look healthy to you?. I m bringing my lottery numbers down this weekend to let the lads pick my numbers We won after a bit of a struggle from a physical Prospect United side and go into the knockout fixture with Northbridge FC this weekend in a bid to get to the GF and of course take some revenge en route. It s a huge game..the boys would welcome the continued support from the Hakoah faithful in what is a make or break game and possibly the biggest of the season so far! We look forward to seeing you there!! Awards of the Week Player of the Week: Out in Camden, against Camden Tigers, marshalled by local referees, and coming off two losses to the Tigers in recent weeks, it is fair to say that the Under 13s were up against it in their Preliminary Final. In these crucial games, teams look to their senior players to lift. Enter Under 13s Captain Ryan Blumberg. Blumberg, who has had a brilliant season thus far, stepped up to command his defence, and his team, around the park, ensuring that they did not concede to the Tigers. Further to this, he also put away the only goal of the game, heading home courtesy of a Jordi Swibel free kick. For putting in such a display of skill and leadership, Blumberg is this week s Player of the Week.
Under 13s Captain Ryan Blumberg is this week s Player of the Week. Blunder of the Week: It was a quiet week here at the Blunder department, with a lack of any clear Blunders standing out above the pack to win this week s Award. With a maximum of two week s remaining of the season, we re all hoping here at Blunder HQ that there will be a plethora of choices for next week!! The Upcoming Week This week, the Feds First Grade are up against Northbridge FC in the Preliminary Final. The game is being held at Hensley Athletic Field, Corner Corish Circuit and Wentworth Avenue, Pagewood on Sunday 18 th September First Grade kick off at 7 pm.
The two remaining Feds Youths sides, the Under 13s and Under 16s, are competing in their respective Grand Finals at Popondetta Park, Popondetta Rd, Emerton. The under 13s are up against Southern Branch. Kick off is at 8.45 am. The under 16s are up against Gladesville Ryde Magic. Kick off is at 1.45 pm. Get down to Popondetta to support the boys as the challenge for the Premiership this Sunday!!! That is this week s edition. For any comments, please hakoah.feds@gmail.com.
