In this week s edition, the entire Feds Club go undefeated, across the Opens and Youths! We also check in again with Dino D Agrosa on the big trip to Bathurst. We Want YOU Down at Hensley THIS SUNDAY!! This Sunday, the entire Feds Club has their last back-to-back home game of the season at Hensley Athletic Field, Corner Corish Circuit and Wentworth Avenue, Pagewood. The Feds Opens are up against Chopin Park Rangers, whilst the Feds Youth are battling Camden Tigers. In no uncertain terms, this game is massive for the Feds First Grade. They must get a win to continue their run to the title. This game is also make or break for the Reserves, with a win the only possible result to keep their finals hopes alive. WE WANT EVERYONE THERE FOR BOTH GAMES TO HELP PUSH THE FEDS OPENS TO THE FINISH LINE!! FIRST GRADE KICKS OFF AT 7 PM. Reserves kick off at 5 pm. Bring the family down and come support your Feds First Grade and Reserves in this vital clash!! The Feds First Grade Bring Down Bathurst Report submitted by the Hakoah Feds Committee. With the run in to the Finals heating up, the Feds First Grade are under no illusions to the tightness of the race. A single slip-up could be fatal for the side.
With that in mind, the side travelled up to Bathurst for a Saturday night game; a venue where the First Grade suffered a shock loss in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season. Allowing no chance for a slip up, the side went up on the Friday to avoid any travel fatigue. But up against temperatures nearing three degrees Celsius, this would still be a massive challenge. With this in mind, Coach Mark Robertson sent his side out as follows: Terry DalBroi Marc Kacen Joe Vrkic Pat Darvill Greg Moss Daan Ranshuijsen Nathan Kosmina Neil Jablonski (c) Jon Pillemer Justin Kosmina Rani Rimmer Bench: Seamus Dowd, Adam Joseph, Moshe Wakil, Michael Randall, David Helfenbaum. Despite the preparation, Hakoah had a nightmare start, with Pat Darvil suffering an injury, Marc Kacen being sent to the sidelines to have his strapped wrist unstrapped for questionable reasons, and then conceding a deflected goal, all in within the first three minutes. However, the side settled, and soon enough Darvil had shaken off his knock and Kacen was back causing trouble for the Bathurst forwards. On a pitch that resembled a cow-paddock, Hakoah found their fluid passing game and soon enough found the equaliser. Rani Rimmer delivered a teasing low cross in the 15 th minute, which the Bathurst keeper couldn t hold. Jon Pillemer was there waiting to pinch the ball and put it away. Only five minutes later Hakoah were ahead. Daan Ranshuijsen brilliantly kept in a long cross-field ball from going beyond the by-line, before delivering a pinpoint cross to the back post, which found the omnipresent head of Neil Jablonski.
Bathurst tried to find their way back into the match, and found an equaliser in the 30 th minute. Just before the break, another Jablonski header rocketed off the cross bar, adding to the tension for the second period. Coming out into freezing conditions for the second half, Hakoah ran riot, controlling the flow and dominating the game. However, with the scores still tied, Jablonski again stepped up to prove his worth. In the 53 rd minute, Jablonski met another long cross with his head, making the score 3-2. And then Jablonski went one better, putting away possibly the goal of the season. In the 56 th minute, Jablonski received a Greg Moss pass with his back to goal on the edge of the box. One touch to his right, whilst shaping to go to his left, fooled his marker. Jablonski swivelled and drove the ball home at lightening speed, dipping into the top right corner and leaving the Bathurst fans stunned. Hakoah dominated the rest of proceedings, somehow failing to score another, despite a host of chances. The match ended 4-2, which ensures that the title charge is still within their side s hands.. The First Grade now sits in 2 nd on goal difference, with just two matches remaining, including a final round match-up against top of the table Northbridge FC. 4 The Reserve Grade were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw against the lowly Bathurst that has caused a serious dent to their finals charge. The side started strongly, going ahead in the 20 th minute after Ricki Friede finished off a swift passing move. However the side took their foot off the pace, resorting to rushed long balls as they struggled to deal with the paddock of a pitch. Bathurst found an equaliser midway through the second half, and Hakoah were unable to find the winner. It was a lacklustre display from one of the form sides of the entire Feds Club. The side now needs to win both their remaining games to keep their finals hopes alive. The Reserve Grade now sits in 6 th place on the ladder. Whitewashing the Woodies: The Feds Youth Dominate Across All Teams In a stunning weekend for the Feds Youths, ALL five teams won against Springwood, notching up the Club s second whitewash for the season. Under 13 The Under 13s racked up another big win, thrashing Springwood 5-0 in yet another stunning performance. Goals fell to Matteo Mangioni (2), Brad Paikin, Jordi Swibel and Ryan Blumberg. Amazingly, six teams are still in contention for the finals, and Hakoah could experience the full range of emotions on the final day of the regular season. The Minor Premiership is still a high possibility, as long as the side wins their last match against Camden and results go there way. Keep an eye on their match this Sunday. It will be a battle for a title!! The Under 13s still sit in 1 st position on the ladder. Under 14 Report submitted by Jeff Engelman. Photos by Kevin Berkowitz. With the Under 14s knocking Stanmore off their perch last week, the side were out to continue their winning form against cellar-dwellers Springwood. This game was always going to be a mental challenge for the side to get-up for a fixture against a team playing for nothing.
However, as per usual, the boys remained professional and disciplined, winning 5-1 in a dominant display. Goals fell to Huw Cox (2), Jonathan Solomon, Simon Rouse and Greg Ellerine. On Sunday, the Under 14s will play Camden, the side they most likely will play in the Semis. Show your support to see Part 1 of their run to the finish!! The Under 14s still sit in 4 th place on the ladder. Under 14 Huw Cox, seen here earlier in the season, grabbed a brace against Springwood. Under 15 Report submitted by Brian Bernard. In an energetic display, the Under 15s were unperturbed by a dead-rubber fixture in regards to finals football, putting on a dominant performance that tore Springwood to shreds. Gianni Fabbro netted the only goal of the match, however the boys created many chances that they were just unable to finish. Jamie Kirwan put on another strong performance, whilst Dylan Bernard and Captain and goalkeeper Max Nightingale both were instrumental in the win.
The side will be looking to secure their top 7 finish with a win on Sunday. The Under 15s now sit in 7 th place on the table. Under 16 The Under 16s won a sizzling contest against Springwood 2-1 in a match that showed the side s quality. Springwood are somewhat of a bogey team for the boys, and this win would not doubt give the side confidence going into the finals. Goals fell to Sam Wrublewski and Gareth Milner. Unfortunately, on the Monday night catch-up game against Stanmore, the Under 16s were unable to get a much needed three points, going down 2-3 in a very tough match. Josh Shubitz and Sam Wrublewski found the net, however the result all but rules out back-to-back Minor Premierships for the side. The boys will be looking to wrap up a top two finish this weekend against Camden. The Under 16s now sit in 2 nd place on the table. Under 16 Brad Karpin wins a header against Springwood.
Under 18 The Under 18s put on a show of attacking flair to secure the whitewash, beating Springwood 6-1. Dylan Blumberg (2), Luca Caruso (2), Harry Mahoney and Nathan Schwartz all found the net in a dominant display that is the best reflection of the quality of this squad. Sadly the side were forced to forfeit their match against Stanmore, due to the late postponement of the match to a Monday night, leaving only four players available due to school camps and other absences. The side will be out for a top six finish with a win on Sunday. The Under 18s now sit in 8 th place on the table. Club Championship The whitewash of Springwood, the second time in the Hakoah Feds history that the Youth have whitewashed the Woodies, gave a boost to Hakoah s Club Championship tally. Whilst it won t be enough for victory, the 15 points from 15 has given Hakoah a much-needed jump in the overall points. The Road to the Finals With Dino D Agrosa
Each week we will be checking-in with Feds First Grade defender Dino D Agrosa for an insight into the First Grade s push to the finals from within the looking glass. Dino, known somewhat as the Loch Ness Monster, has been injured for a large part of this season. However, he has a way with words that we feel can give everyone a strong understanding of the First Grade side (largely pointing out their foibles!!). We are all looking forward to his weekly segments. Our friends at Wikipedia tell us that Bathurst is a regional city in the Central Tablelands of New South Wales and is approximately 200,000km West of Sydney. What Wikipedia doesn t tell you that it was the inspiration behind the early 90 s TV series Quantum Leap. So the first graders jumped into their Delorians and landed in Bathurst on Friday evening in a bid to avoid a repeat of our last trip west. Friday night was a sociable affair with everyone getting round the dining table to share food, fables, bad eating habits and to digest the intricacies of the pending finals run-in. With bed time beckoning Mossy put on his favourite Man Utd pyjama s, Paddy fell asleep listening to Kevin Bloody Wilson and The Kosmina brothers were heard shouting at each other in their sleep. The younger lads (Seamus & Moshe..) seemed to be perturbed by the unfamiliar surrounds of their room and the lack of Wiggles paraphernalia and Superman doona covers. Thankfully Mr & Mrs Kacen were at hand to tuck the lads in and read them both a bedtime story til they dozed off whilst JP lay peacefully in his crib.
On Saturday the lads took to the streets of Bathurst to soak up the culture and lunch together where it was duly noted that; Bathurst has a high percentage of teenage mothers Table Kraft cutlery was not used by The Hub café JP spends a lot of time on his phone Following lunch and a brief siesta the boys started to get their game face on and get prepared for the banana skin that was Bathurst 75. We arrived at the ground and the boys went through a rigorous warm up and their pre-match rituals. Emphasis was put on the excellent preparation that we d had building up to the game and not to let ourselves and the club down as there was genuinely no excuses. Even Seamus became animated and chipped in that the opposing centre forward is a cat..just kick him! The first half was a tense affair as expected and with some words of wisdom at half time the lads came out for the second half and played Bathurst off the park with some excellent football and dominated the game with good passages of play including a screamer from Jabba. I could write a novel on the game itself and the bizarre refereeing decisions but think it can be best summed up as a job well done, brilliant result boys. After the game the majority of the first graders opted to Groundhog Day it out in Bathurst for another evening of pizza, soft drinks and song singing much to the amusement of the locals, before heading back to the Eastern Suburbs on the Sunday. On behalf of the first team boys, I would like to thank the club, the coaching staff and Paddy Darvil for planning, organising and supporting the trip to Bathurst. It definitely went a long way to helping us secure all 3 points. Thank you. Next up Chopin Park Rams at Stadio Della Hensley. 10 With Jordan Koton still out injured, First Grader Neil Jablonski took another big leap to the inaugural Golden Boot Award with another superb hat trick. Not to be left out was Under 16 Josh Shubitz, who also found the net to keep up with the front-runners. The Golden Glove is still too close to call, with Under 16 Harry Rosen in a fierce battle with the Reserve Grade keeper David Helfenbaum. Helfenbaum would share the award, if successful, with Gil Pollak, who played a major role during the season before tearing his ACL six weeks ago. Here are the rules for both awards: The player who scores the most goals across ALL seven Hakoah Feds teams is the winner. The goalkeeper who concedes the least amount of goals in the season, across ALL seven Hakoah Feds teams, based on the number of games played, is the winner. The Feds Committee reserves the right to adjust the criteria once they receive all the feedback from the coaches. The winners will receive $500 worth of sports equipment thanks to Victor Sports. Here are the current tables for both awards. The Victor Sports Golden Boot Award: Rank Team Name Goals 1 Firsts Neil Jablonski 25 2 U13 Jordan Koton 24 3 U16 Josh Shubitz 23 4 U16 Gareth Milner 20 5 U18 Jack Watts 11 6 U16 Sam Wrublewski 10 7 U14 Mikey Herman 10 8 U13 Brad Paikin 10 The Victor Sports Golden Glove Award: Team Name Goals Conceded Games Played Reserves Gil Pollak, David Helfenbaum U16 Harry Rosen U13 Brad Sarif Firsts Adam Sonnabend, Terry DalBroi U14 David Booth U15 Max Nightingale U18 Liam Jeffreys 42 25
Please note that the Victor Sports Golden Glove Award is organised by team. Hence, if two goalkeepers play in one team, they will share the prize if they win. Nominate the Best Blunder!! With the regular season heading to a close, the Blunder of the Year must be selected. We here at the Blunder department have narrowed the choice down to five Blunders. We have already been inundated with so many nominations, and believe us, it will be a tight finish. WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!! Sarah at hakoah.feds@gmail.com to vote for whom you believe should be the winner of the inaugural Blunder of the Year!! Blunder 1 Pat Darvill: First Grader Pat Darvill was absent from a match earlier this year for the horrendous excuse of getting married. For missing football AND tying the matrimonial knot, Darvill has won nomination for the Blunder of the Year Award. Blunder 2 Barry Walker: Poor old Coaching Director Barry Walker! After coaching absences, Walker took over the reins of the Under 13s (his team), the Under 15s
and the Under 16s against Gladesville earlier this year. Walker managed to pick up just ONE POINT from a total of nine, winning his nomination for the Blunder of the Year Title. Blunder 3 Josh Grunfeld: Definitely the most publicised Blunder, Grunfeld chose to use banana s as a form of lubricant to stop his nards from chaffing in a training game for the Reserves. Nothing more needs to be added to show his credentials for the Blunder of the Year.
Blunder 4 David Helfenbaum: The imposing 6 3 figure of Reserve Grade keeper Helfenbaum was made to look miniature as he was chipped from halfway off the kick off by Fairfield Wanderers in the first half of the season. To be that size and to get chipped from 50 yards is enough to warrant his selection on this prestigious list for Blunder of the Year.
Blunder 5 Lisa Shabtay: Mother of Under 16s striker Toby, Lisa Shabtay sent a message to the entire team begging that any photos of her be deleted immediately as she professed to look terrible. Unfortunately the Blunder department were accidently included in that chain, and hence awarding Shabtay her nomination for Blunder of the Year.
Those are the nominees. Let the voting begin!! Awards of the Week Player of the Week: Whilst he seems to win this award with such recurrence that questions have been raised if he sponsors the award, Neil Jablonski put on a performance of such quality that he is the stand-alone winner again this week. Up against a determined Bathurst side, Jablonski led his side with conviction and by example, putting away his second hat trick in consecutive weeks. Scoring two clinical headers, before putting away potentially the goal of the season (although Deklan Gilmartin and Nathan Kosmina may have something to say about that), Jabba once again dominated, regardless of the conditions or quality of the pitch. After yet another startling display, Jablonski is this week s Player of the Week.
Neil Jablonski (right) is this week s Player of the Week. File Photo. Blunder of the Week: For many of the Feds Opens squad, it has been a huge shock that this player has never been awarded the Blunder, despite the many hours of entertainment that he has provided the First Grade this year. But for Michael Randall, he finally stepped up above the rest to take out this week s Blunder Award. Seated on the bench for the First Grade match against Bathurst, Randall decided to voice his displeasure with the referee during an interval when the ref was sending Coach Mark Robertson for a sojourn away from the technical area. What was said is unknown. However, Randall was promptly given a yellow card for his troubles. Now this is not Blunder worthy just yet. The Blunder comes with the context to the tale. What became evident was that Randall was sitting pretty on four yellow cards for the year. A fifth would result in suspension. Therefore, Randall s booking from the bench saw his suspended for this week s game without even touching a ball. For managing to get himself suspended from outside the pitch, Randall is deservedly this week s winner of the Blunder of the Week.
Michael Randall is this week s Blunder of the Week winner. The Upcoming Week This week the entire Feds Club will be playing back-to-back at Hensley Athletic Field, Corner Corish Circuit and Wentworth Avenue, Pagewood, on Sunday 21 st August This is a massive game for the First Grade and the Reserves.
