Please be sure to look in your oldest child s backpack for the Envelope. Here are the items you should be looking for this week! Jog-a-thon & Chocolate Today we officially kick-off our Jog-a-thon 2015 efforts with information that we will be sending home in packets for each family! The goal (as families will learn from the jog-a-thon parent meetings this week and next) is $230 per child! In addition to any classroom level parent fundraising that may happen, parents have the opportunity to sell World s Finest Chocolates to help reach each goal! Chocolate is available in the office starting today for release! Here s how it works! Each box is worth $60 (30 bars at $2 each). Every box of chocolate that a parent sells will provide $30 in credit toward the jog-a-thon goal (the other $30 goes to World s Finest to buy the chocolate)! Let the Jog-a-thon class competitions begin! Save the Date! Kinder Parent Joga-thon Meeting Tues., Sept. 8 Kinder parents are required to attend tonight at 6:30 pm in the Kinder room. First Grade Parent Jog-a-thon Meeting Wed., Sept. 9 First Grade parents are required to attend tonight at 6:30 pm in the First Grade room. Second Grade Parent Jog-a-thon Meeting Thurs., Sept. 10 Second Grade parents are required to attend tonight at 6:30 pm in the Second Grade room. + Release form for dental screening fluoride treatment (no form = no fluoride treatment, but all students will be screened) + Current office balances /current year registration balances (for new families) + Piano registration forms (classes start next Monday after school!) Tech Update All students should have received school issued devices by now (both ipads and Macbooks). For students in 5 th 8 th, the existing Macbook Pros will be updated with the Adobe software suite in the coming days.

2 Virtus Re-Training Workshop The Virtus training that is required of every family is a program that requires continual updating. Each initial training lasts four years and requires a re-training Virtus class. This retraining class is one and a half hours long and will be held on Thursday, September 17, from 6:30 pm to 8 pm in the hall. Registration is in the office (call in registrations are happily accepted). Half of our parent population needs to be re-certified this year. If you are not sure, check with Maria in the office! Important Dates to Note In light of the Jog-a-thon being moved to fall this year, we are cancelling our regularly scheduled September Parent Meeting and Potluck. Instead, we have scheduled individual grade-level meetings with Mrs. Solorzano, PTF President, to help mobilize our parent community for the Jog-a-thon These meetings will be held at 6:30 pm (except where noted). We do not have a large bureaucracies in downtown offices that send us regulations to follow. Many (not all) of the policies in place are organically grown based on experiences and issues we need to resolve at Saint Ferdinand. One of these is the revised tardy and absence policy for this school year. We have heard lots of excellent questions and concerns about the need for doctors notes (etc.) in order for an absence to count as excused. Some parents have expressed concerns that a doctor s visit isn t always available with a simple cold or flu (some doctors offices will not see patients unless they have been feverish for three or more days, for example). In light of these concerns, we will be reviewing this policy to see if any changes are needed this year and notify our parents in the coming weeks of any amendments. A Great Place to Be Saint Ferdinand Catholic School truly is a diamond in the rough. Nestled in the heart of San Fernando, no one would expect such a wonderful school amid such low-performing public and charter school. But it is not magic. The Lord has blessed us with an outstanding faculty and staff who are dedicated to our students and school, and like a talented weaver all of the colors and fabrics come together to form a beautiful tapestry that is the community of Saint Ferdinand Catholic School. 4 Jog-a-thon & Chocolate Hoy oficialmente estaremos comenzando nuestros esfuerzos para el Jog-a-thon 2015 y estaremos enviando información a casa en paquetes para cada familia! El objetivo (como las familias aprenderán de las reuniones de padres jog-a-thon esta semana y la próxima) es de $230 por niño! Además de cualquier recaudación de fondos de los padres por clase ademas los padres tienen la oportunidad de vender chocolates de Worlds Finest para ayudar a alcanzar cada meta! El chocolate está disponible en la oficina a partir de hoy para recoger! Así es como funciona! Cada caja tiene un valor de $60 (30 bares en $ 2 cada uno). Cada caja de chocolate que un padre vende proporcionará $30 en crédito para su meta de Jog-a-thon (los otros $30 van hacia la compañía de World s Finest para el pago de las cajas de chocolate)! 5 Taller de Re-entrenamiento Virtus El entrenamiento de Virtus es requerido por cada familia y es un programa que requiere una actualización continua. Cada formación inicial tiene una duración de cuatro años y requiere una clase Virtus re-entrenar. Esta clase reentrenamiento es una hora y media de duración y se llevará a cabo el jueves 17 de septiembre de 6:30-8:00pm en el salón parroquial. La inscripción es en la oficina (aceptamos registraciones por teléfono). La mitad de la población de los padres tiene que ser re-certificación este año. Si no está seguro consulte con María en la oficina! Fechas Importantes que anotar Este año el Jog-a-thon será movido al otoño, estaremos cancelando nuestra junta de padres estaba programada para septiembre. En su lugar, hemos programado reuniones individuales de nivel de grado con la señora Solórzano, Presidente de PTF, para ayudar a movilizar a nuestra comunidad de padres para el Jog-a-thon Estas reuniones se llevarán a cabo a las 6:30 pm (excepto donde se indique). No tenemos unas grandes burocracias en las oficinas del centro que nos envían las regulaciones a seguir. Muchos (no todos) de las políticas establecidas orgánicamente se cultivan basadas en las experiencias y los problemas que tenemos que resolver en St. Ferdinand. Una de ellas es la norma de tardanza y ausencia revisada para este año escolar. Hemos escuchado un montón de excelentes preguntas y preocupaciones acerca de la necesidad de que las notas de los médicos (etc.) con el fin de una ausencia para contar como "justificada". Algunos padres han expresado su preocupación de que una visita al médico no siempre está disponible con un simple resfriado o la gripe (algunos consultorios médicos no ven a los pacientes a menos que hayan sido febril durante tres o más días, por ejemplo). A la luz de estas preocupaciones, estaremos revisando esta política para ver si es necesario hacer algún cambio este año y notificar a los padres en las próximas semanas de cualquier enmienda. Un gran lugar para estar Laa Escuela Católica de St. Ferdinand es verdaderamente un diamante en bruto. Ubicado en el corazón de San Fernando, nadie esperaría una escuela tan maravillosa en medio de escuelas públicas de bajo rendimiento y de escuelas charter. Pero no es magia. El Señor nos ha bendecido con una facultad excepcional y el personal que se dedica a nuestros estudiantes y la escuela, y al igual que un tejedor talentoso de todos los colores y tejidos se unen para formar un hermoso tapiz que es la comunidad de St. Ferdinand. Así que la próxima vez que alguien le pregunte a que escuela van sus hijos, hagales saber que van a la escuela católica MAS ORIGINAL Y MEJOR del Valle de San Fernando! 5

6 Recordatorios importantes Por favor, tome nota de las siguientes! Dejar y recoger en zonas rojas es ilegal y el conductor puede ser citado por estacionarse ilegalmente Por favor, ser conscientes del estacionamiento en el aparcamiento de la iglesia. Entrar por la calle Coronel y salir por la calle Pico. Por favor, sólo aparcar en zonas de estacionamiento designados utilizando las franjas de estacionamiento para evitar la congestión innecesaria. Las familias que toman ventaja de descuento de la parroquia para la colegiatura se les recuerda que deben registrarse en la parroquia y asistir a misa todos los domingos. Por favor, asegúrese de usar el sobre de la parroquia para su semanal de $ 10 + contribución. Las familias que no cumplen con este acuerdo serán trasladados al plan de precios no parroquial.
