Royals vs. Rangers Last night was Kansas City s eighth straight loss to Texas dating back to last year, the longest losing streak the club has ever endured vs. the Rangers...KC still leads the all-time work by a margin, including a deficit here in Texas, specifically since Globe Life opened under another name in Date Site Score WP LP Att. Tex L, 0-1 (13) Alvarez Wood 26,898 Tex L, 2-6 Hamels Karns 31,320 Tex Tex 7/14 KC 7/15 KC 7/16 KC LONG BALL LOOMS IN LOSS--While the offense is still trying to get on track, last night was one of the rare outings where the opponent jumped on a KC starter and Nate Karns felt the brunt of it in a 6-2 defeat to the Rangers...the duo of Robinson Chirinos and Joey Gallo combined for four home runs and five of the RBI to drop Karns record to 0-1 in a 4.2-inning outing...he gave up just five hits on the night, but four left the park, a career-first for the 27-year old righthander...meanwhile, the Royals were held to just two runs on the night, plating bookend tallies in the first and ninth innings...kansas City held a 1-0 lead just two batters into the contest, as Alex Gordon was hit by a pitch for a club record tying 78th time in his career to open the game and Lorenzo Cain doubled him home for a quick lead...unfortunately, Cain would be left standing and the Royals offense would once again struggle with runners in scoring position, going just 1-for-8 on the night...the loss was KC s second in a row after winning five of six. FIRST HICCUP FOR A STARTER--The six runs allowed by starter Nate Karns last night marked the most surrendered by a KC starter this year, two more than the previous high of four over 4.2 innings by Jason Hammel on April 12 vs. Oakland...in fact, Kansas City s starting pitching has been so good, that the six allowed last night were three more than the starters had allowed in the last seven games combined leading up to last night...the 3-run second inning by Texas was the first multi-run inning by an opponent since the sixth inning on April 12...despite last night s contest, the Royals continue to lead the Majors in starting pitching ERA with a 2.36 ERA, still way ahead of #2 Minnesota who possesses a 3.15 mark...kc s bullpen chipped in last night with 3.1 innings of scoreless relief and since April 13, has recorded a 1.59 ERA, allowing four earned runs in 22.2 innings, holding the opposition to a.163 average (13-for-80)...the ERA is the fourth best mark among A.L. teams in that span. SOLER POWER--Outfielder Jorge Soler started his minor league injury rehab with a bang last night, going 2-for-3 in Omaha s 6-2 win 2 1/2 hours down the road in Round Rock...Soler, out since spring training with a strained left oblique, hammered a 3-run homer in his second at bat to give the Storm Chasers a lead they never relinquished, then singled in his last at bat...he was acquired over the winter from the Cubs in exchange for reliever Wade Davis. GORDO TIES TEAM BRUISE RECORD--Alex Gordon opened last night s game by taking a Cole Hamels pitch right on the #4, Gordo s third hit by pitch this year and the 78th of his big league career...by receiving the blow, Gordon has now tied Mike Macfarlane s all-time club record of 78 hit by pitches during his 11-year stint in Kansas City ( and )...last night s plunking tied Gordon with Anthony Rizzo for 14th among active players in HBP s, one behind Ian Kinsler (79). ACE 30 REMEMBERING YO--The morning of January 22, 2017 will always be remembered as one of the most tragic days in franchise history when word was received that pitcher Yordano Ventura had his life cut short due to a car accident in his native Dominican Republic...signed as a 17-year old in 2008, the fireballing righthander compiled a during his abbreviated Major League career...among many highlights, Ace will be most remembered for blanking the San Francisco Giants over 7.0 innings in Game #6 of the 2014 World Series to force a seventh and deciding game, while pitching with a heavy heart himself due to the untimely passing of his friend Oscar Tavares...to honor the late Ventura, all uniforms in 2017 will be adorned with the ACE 30 patch.
