Enter your address. 3. Click on Join Mailing List. WHAT A PARTY! 175 people plus guards and D J enjoyed a great day at the pool. The wild animal show was a big hit with kids and adults. The D J livened things up. Who knew we had so many talented kids and adults in our neighborhood (how about the "All That Jazz" performance...wow, does not do it justice, it was fantastic). The food was good as usual with some leftovers for Sunday dinner at the pool. Thanks to all who helped with food, set up, clean up, baking contest and all day long. Everyone said this was the best picnic yet. Dennis Moul won the 50/50 drawing. Thanks to the Civic Association for funding a large portion of the entertainment costs that the registration fees did not cover. Kudos to Sandy Schuster for coordinating this entire event-- we all appreciate her time and efforts towards a fun day for all!!! Pig Facts: This was our 15th Pig Roast. The first was on September We only had rain once in all those years. The most people to attend was 225 back in One 110 lb. pig and 40 lbs. of pulled pork will feed about 200 people with a little left over. 2 HALLOWEEN PARADE This year's Halloween Parade will be held on October 30th, beginning at 3:00 pm. Once again the parade will begin at 1656 King James Drive. The route will circle the King James loop and end on King Albert drive in the cul-de-sac. As a reminder, please do not park along the parade route. We are expecting the North Allegheny band, as well as the Franklin Park VFD to participate. Please sign up so we know how many to expect. This group will be discontinued unless someone steps forward to volunteer prior to October 10, Thanks to all who volunteered to chair groups for the year. You make it possible for all the events to occur. Your time & efforts are very much appreciated. KID CONNECTION Brook Park's neighborhood playgroup will be holding its first "play date" on Wednesday, September 29 from 12:30-2:00 pm at 1508 King Charles Drive (Rodgers' Home). During the first Kid Connection, the kids will play while the adults determine the group's direction/schedule for In the past, Kid Connection met once a month except during winter months when two meetings per month were scheduled. Play dates have been held in members' homes & offsite (Lilliput, Soergels, Blueberry Hill etc...). Schedule is based on member availability. This group is open to Children (infants thru kindergarten) and their parent/caregiver. If you are looking for a relaxed group where you can enjoy light-hearted conversation, while watching your kids have fun playing with future friends & classmates this is the group for you. Then Saturday, October 30, 2010, is the date you need to mark on your calendar NOW!!!! The creepy, scary and just plain weird will appear at 7:30 pm - 11:30 pm at the Franklin Park Fire Hall for the "howling" social event of the year. ALL Brook Park residents and Brook Park Pool members are invited to attend. Costs to attend are as follows: Social Group Members: $25.00/Couple, $12.50/Single NON-Group Members: $30.00/Couple, $15.00/Single Costumes are encouraged. My "mummy" told me that prizes will be given for a variety of categories in the form of "Gift Cards" that could be used to make some potent "witches brew". Costume Judging is at 8:30 pm so plan to arrive prior to that time to be included. DJ services will be provided by "Keystone Entertainment" and should cast a spell over the entire room. 6 2010 PIG ROAST BAKING CONTEST WINNERS 1 st Place--Youth Division Arie Kalcevic (This website is beautiful! Check it out!) 2 nd Place--Youth Division--Allison Suddaby Quick, Easy -N- Fast M & M's Cheesecake Squares Recipe 1/4 C. margarine 1 C. unbleached all-purpose flour 8 oz. cream cheese, softened 1 t. vanilla 3/4 C. M&M's candies 1/3 C. packed brown sugar 1/2 C. chopped walnuts 1/4 C. granulated sugar 1 large egg Beat margarine and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add flour and walnuts, mix well. Reserve 1/2 cup crumb mixture; press remaining crumb mixture into bottom of 8 inch square pan. Bake at 350Â F for 10 minutes. Combine cream cheese, granulated sugar and vanilla, mixing at medium speed on electric mixer until well blended. Add egg, mix well. Layer 1/2 cup candy over crust; top with cream cheese mixture. Combine remaining candy, chopped, and reserved crumb mixture; mix well. Sprinkle crumb mixture over cream cheese mixture. Bake at 350Â F for 20 minutes. Cool and cut in to 16 equal squares. 1 st Place--Adult Division--Karen Bauer Chocolate Swirl Zucchini Sheet Cake Ingredients 3 Cups all purpose flour ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 3 cups white sugar 1 ½ cups canola oil

7 3 eggs 3 cups grated zucchini 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 cup buttermilk 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened ¼ cup white sugar 1 egg ½ cup milk chocolate chips ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9 x 13 inch baking pan with cooking spray. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. 2. In a mixing bowl, beat together 3 cups of sugar with canola oil with an electric mixer on low speed until the mixture is smooth; add 3 eggs one at a time, and beat again to combine. Beat in zucchini and vanilla until well combined. Beat the flour mixture into the sugar mixture by fourths, alternating with ¼ cup of buttermilk after every portion of flour mixture. Mix the batter for 1 minute on medium-high speed, and pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. 3. In a bowl, mix together the cream cheese and ¼ cup of sugar until thoroughly combined, then mix in 1 egg until the cream cheese mixture is smooth. Spoon dollops of the cream cheese here and there over the cake batter, and swirl the cream cheese mixture through the batter with a table knife to make a marble effect. Sprinkle the milk chocolate and semisweet chocolate chips over the cake. 4. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the chocolate portion of the center of the cake comes out with moist crumbs. 25 to 30 minutes. Cool on a rack. NOTE: I got this recipe from The baking time was really off and after cooking it closer to an hour, the center was still not baked well. I would either use a Texas sheet cake pan or use less batter in the 9 x 13 pan to get it to bake well. 2 nd Place--Adult Division--Melody Kalcevic Here is the adult second place 'Pink Lemonade cupcakes'!
