2 w Story- Heartfelt Appreciation To show our appreciation to our school board members, some of our 6 th grade Choir members braved the ice and snow to sing for our school board members at their January board meeting. The choir is under the direction of Julie Bell. Students are Diving into Learning here at Elementary Washington- 100th Day of School It was the perfect time to have fun with the number 100 by celebrating the 100 th day of school at Washington ECC. Teachers planned activities and lessons for students to practice their counting skills and sharpen their observational skills. Students even drew pictures of what they would look like if they were 100 years old. Here are just some of the highlights.

3 w Story- 6th Grade Language Arts Projects Sixth grade Language Arts students have been exploring theme across literary genres. They used different texts to explore the price of freedom for African American slaves and white abolitionists. The students created game boards from cereal boxes complete with question cards and answers from the text, a "theme" derived from the texts, and personal connections and reflections to the text. Learning is fun in Language Arts This week our students were gearing up for Valentine s Day. They were creating their own Valentine s Day Cards in Art, Learning about Valentine s Day and Jump Rope for Heart in P.E., and getting ready for their Valentine s Day Parties. - Valentine s Day High School Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) Seventeen students with 24 artworks traveled to Whitehouse High School Saturday to attend the annual Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE). Students were juried 1:1 by teachers and professors and given a score of 1(lowest) to 4(highest). Artworks scoring a 4 received a medal and were then voted upon by all of the judges for selection to advance to State. There were approximately 700 artworks entered into this event and only go to State. Thirteen of our 24 artworks received a 4 and three of our students advance to State. Going to State in April are: Benjamin Lara, Jessica Ibarra, Reyna Morales

4 FOOD SERVICE I know this is the Valentine s Day edition of Wildcat Weekly, but I think this qualifies as an act of love, kindness and selflessness. PISD has been helping with the East Texas Food Bank Weekend Backpack program for over a year. We help receive, transport and store the backpacks twice a month so they can be delivered to children in need in our District. Every campus has helped with smiling faces in the hot months and most recently the really cold months. Today we narrowly missed the rain. I was literally driving back to my office when it began to rain. The volunteers who have been doing this for years, are so very grateful for our help and I m so happy to be part of this program. I don t always get a chance to take pictures of our volunteers, but I have two to share The PISD Maintenance department, and I mean the ENTIRE department, helped in December when there was 2 trailers filled with boxes and today, Administrators from helped. Thank you for all your help and cooperation. It is very much appreciated. High School- Chemical Circus Junior High- Choir TACE Parent Meeting What you can do to help your child at home. Northside- 100th Day of School These Northside Students celebrated perfect attendance on the 100th Day of School.

5 High School- Graphing High School- Band Garage/Rummage Sale Mrs. Thomas takes graphing and parallel lines to another level. What a wonderful hands-on learning experience. Junior High- Cheerleaders Earlier this week our Palestine Junior High Cheerleaders traveled to Story Intermediate School to meet with the Story girls and tell them about their cheering experiences. Our Junior High Cheerleaders were very excited to show and teach the younger Story girls their cheers that have been using during game time. Junior High- Band Solo and Ensemble On Friday, February 7 th, the Palestine Junior High band traveled to Lindale, TX to partake in a Solo & Ensemble band competition. 32 students participated in the competition 28 of which earned a 1 Superior rating those included Daniel Arzola, Samantha Davis, Bre'anna Donnell, Maria Duncan, Megan Hafner, Kaitlyn Smith, Raven Allen, Crystal Luna, Brianna Samford, Jaila Cook, Dillan Dennis, Kosi Odiaka, Luis Arrendondo, Grant Attaway, Madalyn Dobbs, Jesus Molina-Vega, Christopher Perez, Allison Sanchez, Isaac Fulgham on a harder solo, Katherine Stone on a harder solo, Joe Banuelos, Morghyn Harper, Javi Zamora, Draven Deleon, Sean Jones, Ekene Odiaka, Servando Ferretiz, and Travell Bryant and 4 earned a 2 Excellent rating those included Ana Gallegos, Brandon Galloway, Christian Hull, and Demarques Spurlock. We also took a Trumpet Trio which was made up of Morghyn Harper, Javi Zamora, and Joe Banuelos. The Trio also earned a 1 which included a medal. The students who got a 1 received a medal which made for some really happy band students. The Palestine Junior High is so proud of their band students. We would like to say a big Thank you to the instructors Jimmy Shelton, David Jones, Michaela Chybowski, Andrew Chybowski and Matthew Reimer.

6 Northside- Picture Day Picture Day I made my scarf in art station. TACE Intervention Northside- Readers and Pizza Happy readers and pizza eaters. Northside- Dr. Seuss s Birthday Story Student, Hannah Glenn, with her drawing for the Northside Foyer - announcing Cat the Hat for Dr. Seuss's Birthday. Junior High- Color Guard The Junior High Cadet Color Guard went to their 2nd competition in Coppell this past Saturday. They earned a 3rd place trophy in their classification. Good job, girls
