1 November 18, 2016 Volume 5: Issue 11 Palestine Independent School District Inside this issue: Athletics 2 Campus Happenings Looking Forward 15 Wildcat Weekly from the Superintendent: Jason Marshall It s that Turkey time of year again! On Wednesday, the PISD Administration parking area was filled with 500+ turkeys, one for each staff member and just in time for the Thanksgiving holidays. The district is thankful to each and every staff member for all that you do to encourage and motivate students each day throughout the school year. We wish each student and staff member a safe and happy holiday week with family and friends. Wildcat Weekly will take a break for a few weeks. The next edition will come out on Friday, December 9th. Happy Thanksgiving from Palestine ISD! The two groups had the audience on their feet singing and dancing to songs like Forget You by Cee Lo Green and See You Again by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth. Glee Club is part of the PHS Program that began when a group of choir students wanted to get other students singing and performing. The PHS Glee Club meets three times each week before school, at 7:00 am. Be sure to check out their next concert on Sunday, December 11 th at 3:30 pm in the PHS Auditorium! PHS Spanish Club Highway 19 Project Mrs. Carolina Dominguez and the PHS Spanish Club picked up litter along Highway 19 last Saturday. Many thanks to Mrs. Dominguez and the Spanish Club for taking their time on a Saturday to help make Palestine even more beautiful. Happy Thanksgiving!
2 P a ge 2 Wildcat Weekly V olume 5: I ss u e 11 Go Wildcats Athletic Director: Robby Clark Palestine Athletics Cross Country: Freshman, Michael Guzman competed at the UIL State Cross Country Meet in Round Rock on Saturday, November 12, Competing at the State level was a great learning experience and we look forward to seeing Michael in competition next season. Coach Absalom Ladycat Ennis & Lindale: Last weekend, the F/JV teams traveled to Ennis and played in a 5A/6A tournament with teams from the Metroplex. The Freshman went 2-2 and played for a Trophy in their matchup. Freshman beat Ennis and Waco University 28-18, but lost to Waxahachie The JV team lost to Ennis and to Carrollton Ranchview The Varsity team traveled to Lindale last Friday night and played a very good 5A program. Varsity lost in overtime 47-51, but played very well and I'm excited to see how we respond. Coach Ross Michael Guzman at State Cross Country Meet Wildcat Huntington: The Freshman team won, The defense played aggressive in their half-court trap. The offense executed in transition and in the half-court game. Every player played at least 1 quarter and made significant contributions. The JV team lost to Cross Roads Varsity, The JV team competed very well in their first action of the season. We were a little rusty in the game but held a 1 point lead at the half. I was very pleased with our effort and playing against a varsity team. I'm looking for big things out of this group. The Varsity team won at Spring Hill vs Spring Hill and Rusk. I thought we all played very good in our second scrimmage vs Rusk and Spring Hill Saturday. We beat Rusk in 2 quarters and we also beat Spring Hill 34 to 20 in 2 Quarters. We open our season on Tuesday with a trip to Huntington. All three teams are 1-0.
