RSVP by calling or stopping by the Southeastern Indiana YMCA Member Service Desk at Address: 30 State Road 129 South, Batesville, IN SERVICE ANIMALS MAKE A DIFFERENCE Oof You just ran into a wall again Hopefully you didn't break anything this time. You should really consider getting a guide dog like Echo. This week the St. Louis Catholic School seventh grade learned about different types of service animals from various guest speakers. Blind painter, John Bramblitt, an artist who lost his vision at the age of 21, allows his service dog Echo to be his eyes for him. Dogs like Echo provide aid to people with disabilities, and offer them opportunities that would not be possible without the animal's help. From this visit, the students learned how service animals make a considerable difference in a person's life. On the same day, Officer Dan Hamilton informed the students how passive and aggressive drug dogs can encourage the safety of a community. Jinx, Officer Hamilton's Dutch Shepherd, has dropped the bomb on countless heroine and other drug users in the Ripley and Franklin county areas. Dogs like Jinx have never been more effective than they are today. Along with the use of this newfound information, the St. Louis seventh graders will be researching other types of service animals and creating brochures about them. Some of these consist of therapy horses, service cats, rabbits, sight and hearing dogs, military, drug and police dogs. Just like the St. Louis seventh graders, we hope you recognize all that these animals do, and we encourage you to learn more about them. By: Samantha Tonges and Anna Moeller GIRLS BASKETBALL SIGN UP Any girl in grade 5 through 8 that would like to play basketball at St. Louis can sign up in the following homerooms: Gr. 5 - Mrs. Emsweller Gr. 6 - Mrs. Ortman Gr. 7 - Mrs. Lents Gr. 8 - Miss Ruschke Last day to sign up is Friday, November 21.
