1 Monday, February 1, 2016 please read announcements 4 th period ANNOUNCEMENTS The Westfield High School Junior-Senior Prom Committee is holding a fundraiser on the following dates: Monday February 1, Tuesday, February 9, Monday, February 15, Monday, February 22, and Monday, February 29 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Please be sure to turn in a flyer when you pay at BoomBozz Pizza and Westfield High School will receive 15 percent of your check to help with the cost of Prom tickets! Flyers can be picked up at the Information Desk or on the WHS Facebook and twitter pages. Take this opportunity to treat your family and friends to social hour and dinner. Social hour prices apply to dinein orders only and are from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Carry-out ordering is available. Thank you for your support! WHS, please join Animal Club this week and help out our local animal shelters! We are collecting everyday items for them, and we would love your help. We need paper plates, paper towels, plastic silverware, cat toys, food, dog collars, and blankets. You can bring your items to the Learning Center or to Mrs. Gibbs's room 2227 through Friday this week. Thank you!! There is a call out meeting on Wednesday (02/03) in Ondrusek's room during period 6 for any seniors interested in singing or speaking at graduation, or creating graduation program art. Carnations are on sale in the cafeteria for Valentine's Day from through Feb 3rd. Each carnation is $1 and will be delivered to classrooms on Friday, February 12th. Red = love, Yellow= friendship, White = secret admirer! The yearbook cost is now $65! Be sure to order yours online at before the price increases again! Seniors: The deadline to take your Senior portraits for the yearbook is Feb. 26 th. 2 CLUB AND ACTIVITIES NEWS: Key Club will have an all member meeting THIS Thursday, February 4th, during period 6 in the Learning Center. New members are always welcome! There will be a call-out meeting for Spanish Quiz Bowl this Thurs. Feb. 4th during 6th pd. in Rm Please see Ms. Lutz if you have any questions. American Pie IV: The set list is finalized. Now we need artists, speakers, dancers, promoters, etc. to make the whole event come together. There will be a meeting in Mr. Ewing's room (1444) for any interested students on Tuesday, February 9th during 6th period. See Mr. Ewing, Mr. Frederick, or Mrs. Hasler-Troutman if you have any questions. on twitter for updates. American Pie: To all those with a performance part (singing or playing) We will have a brief meeting during 6 th period this Thursday, Feb 4th in Mr. Ewing s room (1444). Now that you know your song for the 2016 AMERICAN PIE IV show, we will explain the information regarding rehearsal schedules and answer questions. Please read your performer letter carefully and visit the website mentioned in the letter prior to Thursday's meeting so we can help clear up any questions you might have. The Online Newspaper Club will be meeting Thursday, February 4th during 6th period. We will meet in Mr. Sander s room (1225). Newcomers are always welcome! French Quiz Bowl will be having a call out meeting on Thursday, February 4th during 6th period in room You must be enrolled in French during this school year to participate, but all levels are welcome from French 1 to AP. See Mr. Collins for more information. EliteGamingLIVE: Have you ever wanted to play video games competitively and be rewarded and recognized for your skills and accomplishments? If so, then listen up. Westfield High School has partnered with EliteGamingLIVE. EliteGamingLIVE is your outlet to play video games competitively after school in a series of tournaments on February 4, March 10, and April 28. EliteGamingLIVE s goal is to award scholarships to local colleges and universities into technology-related degree programs while giving you a platform to compete for cash prizes and represent your school proudly in a citywide tournament in May. During this spring season you will also be challenged to learn about video game design, coding, and computer science. It s time to #PLAYFORMORE. EliteGamingLIVE will have an informational booth set-up during lunch the week of February 4 th in the lunchroom. Sign-ups for the tournaments are available outside of Mr. Frederick's room (1224) - you can sign up for a max of two games. ATHLETICS: Beginning Wednesday, February 3rd there will be a stunting open gym for all football or basketball WHS cheerleaders who are interested in trying out for football cheer in the spring. The open gyms will be each Wednesday in February from 3:30pm until 5pm.

3 BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL: Down by 11 points in the fourth quarter, the Rocks stormed back to beat the Avon Orioles on Friday night. Avon built their lead on hot shooting in the first half. Westfield came out composed to start the fourth quarter and never looked back. The Rocks have now won five games in a row, six out of the last seven. For the first time in the school history, the Rocks have now beaten four 4A opponents in a row. The game was won on an Ian Kristensen layup with 1.5 seconds left. Kristensen scored ten points, nine in the fourth quarter, and four rebounds. Senior Charlie Warner led all scorers with 21 points and seven rebounds. Jonah Welch scored ten points and was the third Rock scoring in double figures. Freshmen Caleb Welch came in and had a clutch three pointer and two assists down the stretch during the fourth quarter. Welch's defense disrupted the Oriole's last effort to win the game. The Westfield JV boys basketball team got a great win against Avon, BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL: The Rocks lost a tough battle at Lebanon, 46 to 49 on Saturday. Westfield tied the game at 44 late in the fourth, but the Tigers took the win. Senior Charlie Warner led the Rocks in scoring with 15 points and added 5 points. Junior Ian Kristensen added 11 points and led the team with 9 rebounds. The next game for the Rocks is on Thursday night as they look for their third HCC win in a row at Fishers. The JV boys basketball Shamrocks got their second win in as many days at Lebanon, beating the Tigers 57 to 47. Freshmen Jaret Bailey led the Rocks in scoring with 12 points followed by sophomore Zach Penley who had 11 points. Freshmen Caleb Welch also scored nine points. Ten Rocks scored in the game. The Rocks are back in action on Thursday at Fishers. BOYS VARSITY SWIMMING: The Men's Swim Team had a great outing at the HCC JV Invitational on Saturday, placing 7th. Jakob Reynolds led the way with two outstanding lifetime best swims in the 200 Free and 100 Fly. Chandler Luedke added two more lifetime bests to the cause in the 50 Free and 100 Free, and Jarrett Williams threw down a 4-second time drop in the 100 Free. Congratulations on a great finish to your season! GIRLS VARSITY SWIMMING: The Women's Swim Team turned in some great swims against a fast field at Saturday's HCC JV Invitational. Anna Kreag had two best times in the 100 Breast and 100 Freestyle, while Hailey Tanner, Emma Yoakum, Lauren Zentz, Elizabeth Figueroa, Serena Cola, and Lexi Childs all saw at least one best time throughout the day in their events. Way to go, ladies! COED VARSITY WRESTLING: WHS Wrestling advanced 9 wrestlers out of the IHSAA Frankfort Sectional on Saturday. Leading the way for the Shamrocks were 3 individual weight class champions. Senior Evan Eldred (138) captured his 3rd career sectional championship, and juniors Reid Hutson (113) and Liam Jagow (170) won their first ever sectional championships. Junior Justin Miller (152) and senior Zachary Steele (132) finished their day in second place at their weight classes. Seniors Sam Trompen (182), Nick Schaeffer (195) and junior Austin Dollens (285) advanced to regional with their 3rd place finishes. Also qualifying for next week's regional was sophomore Noah Robinson (126) with a 4th place finish. Freshman Esteban Perez (106) and junior Levi Gleason

4 (220) missed advancing to the regional by one match finishing in 5th and 6th place respectively. Next week's regional is at North Montgomery HS on Saturday, February 6th. SCHOOL COUNSELING CENTER: The following College Visits are during 6 th period and open to any student in grades 9-12; 11 th & 12 th graders please sign up in Naviance: Indiana University Kokomo Feb. 24 th Attention motivated juniors interested in leadership, citizenship and government: Two boy and two girls (plus 1 alternate each) from the junior class will be selected to attend the Hoosier Boys and Girls State programs. It is a week of living on a college campus and learning the political system of Indiana. Students will be able to apply and increase their knowledge of state and local government with hundreds of the top students from the state of Indiana. It s an honor to be selected and many colleges and scholarship committees give special consideration to former Boys and Girls State delegates. Juniors, this is a great opportunity! Famous alumni of the Boys and Girls State programs include Astronaut Neil Armstrong, Former President Bill Clinton, Senator Richard Lugar, Michael Jordan, Jane Pauley, and Mark Wahlberg. Other famous Boys and Girls State Alumni include Westfield s very own Mr. Putman, Mr. Messmore, Mrs. Ellis, Mr. Peters, Mr. Staal, Mr. Bland, Mrs. Yoder and Mrs. Gibbs! Applications are in the School Counseling Center and are due by Friday, February 12 th! During the day on March 16th, WHS will host our Spring Shamrock Rep Day during 3rd period open to sophomores and juniors. More details to come! On the evening of March 16 th, students have an opportunity to take advantage of the Greater Indianapolis Northside College Fair to be held at the Ritz Charles in Carmel from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by a consortium of high schools on Indy s Northside as a way to provide access to college information for local students. Over 100 colleges/universities will be represented at the fair! The event is free, and students in all grade levels are welcome to attend. PARENTS: The Westfield Washington Schools Selection Committee for the Westfield High School Alumni Hall of Fame is now accepting applications. This award honors alumni whose deeds and character exemplify outstanding achievement in their life s work and/or service to their communities. An honoree s spirit and leadership are worthy of recognition and have inspired praise and gratitude among his or her peers. The application deadline is March 15, 2016, and the Hall of Fame recipient will be honored at the spring WHS Seniors Award Night on. GIVE KIDS A SMILE DAY Give Kids a Smile Day is a one day program for kids without dental insurance to have their teeth cleaned and checked by a dentist. The offices of First Impressions Family Dental Care and Growing Grins will offer free cleanings to children ages 1-18 on Friday, February 5 th from 7AM 1PM. You must call to make an appointment prior to this day in order to be seen. Kids ages 1-8 will be seen at Growing Grins Pediatric Dentistry and should call Kids ages 9-18 will be seen at First Impressions Family Dental Care and should call These offices are conveniently located in the medical office building directly across from the Westfield Post Office and the Police and Fire Department.
